- American tries Swedish Candy!
Watch Adri, who's American, try Swedish candy for the first time that Nicho brought from his latest trip to Sweden. We did a blind taste test to add to the element of surprise for her reactions 😂 The assortment of candy ranges from Swedish licorice and Swedish chocolate to more fruity candies. At the end, Adri ranked the candies from her most to least favorite ones.

I never get bored of americans eating swedish salt licorice. Djungelvrål
Haha her trying all the licorice was definitely the most fun part about filming this video 😂 - Nicho
samma här lol
It's so funny, Djungelvrål is my favourite candy, and everyone who isn't swedish nearly dies when they try it.
It was awful I’m sorry😂 - Adri
Or Finnish!... or Norwegian... or Icelandic... or Danish... or maybe from the Netherlands. But yeah, salty licorice is a very nordic thing...
yep, lots of my friends love it, saltlakrits
@@travisscottburger9 I can't stand sweet licorice, but i love salt licorice
@@Josefsson9013 same
i really think we should have Marabou on export. Every time someone tries Swedish candy they always love our chocolate
Very true!
I think the main problem with Marabou chocolate is that it melts at a rather low temperature. It is the same property that makes it melt in you mouth making it soo tasty but also hard to keep durable in warmer countries😥
@@Goophern True, that's a very good point!
Pretty sure you can find sites that ship to the USA and EU, not cheap tho
@@Josefsson9013 yeah I saw that they have some on Amazon but the delivery was either really pricey or months away. For now I just load my luggage with candy whenever I’m in Sweden and ship it myself haha 😂 - Nicho
Swedish fish is definately a thing in Sweden. When "lösgodis" started out. There wasn't as many different kind of treats to choose from and "fiskar" or Swedish fish like you call it in the US was one of the major ones. Then the last 10 or 15 years they have kinda ended up in the shadows cause there is so much new stuff. If you're Swedish and born like 95 and later, then Swedish fish isn't as known.
Bra och rolig video! Ni ser verkligen ut att trivas ihop, och det är alltid kul att se. Fortsätt ladda upp, så fortsätter jag att titta. Ha det gött!
Tusen tack för fin kommentar! Kul att du gillade videon 😊
We do have swedish fish, but its usually not bagged, its in a container next to a bunch of other candies in containers, that you scoop out with a plastic scoop and put them in a paper bag, then you buy it.
Jättesalt is so good! But the salty coating is just... a coating. When it's gone what's left is not even licorice.
True! The main challenge is just getting past the coating part 😅
Älskar hur chill du är och svennebanan äter utan minsta min.
I always love the reactions to Djungelvrål 😂
That saltiness in djungelvrål is because it's ammoniumchloride instead of tablesalt. 😀
Well now I’m gonna be thinking about that every time I have djungelvrål 😅...
Turkisk peppar är ju det klart bästa salta godiset. 😋
Hahah turkisk peppar kan var svår även för mig alltså 😅. Borde haft dom i denna videon haha
wow! I thought every country had the 'candy on saturday only' rule, also ljungelvrål for life ♥
Haha nope! I wish we had that in the US though! - Adri
oh man this was funny to watch, I know her pain, back in 2017 I went to visit some friends I met online ( met online around 2014 ) finally had the opportunity to go to Sweden, I went to Göteborg and down to Malmö and I got to try most of these candies listed and NO ONE TOLD ME about the salty licorice :D or just the salty candy in general...I certainly understand haha
Thank you! And isn't it overwhelming?? haha Just a completely different taste than I'm used to - Adri
The only candy on Saturdays thing came about because Swedish dentists noticed people were eating so much candy in like the 60-s or 70-s (I think?) and they were getting a lot of dental problems. They launched a campaign to cut back on the candy eating, especially for kids and the results are ingrained in Swedish culture to this day.
As long as she's tried salted liquorice!
10/10 video. I laughed my ass off. You choose all of the good candies to bring from Sweden. Pim Pim is the boss.
Hahah thank you! We’re glad you liked it😊. Hope you enjoy the part 2 that we uploaded as well! And yes, Pim Pim is awesome 👌
@@NichoandAdri It was awesome, I'll watch part 2 right away 😊 Have a good Friday
@@oscarsh2909 same to you! 😊
lel, i love this kind of amusement. Thanx
haha you're welcome😂 Thanks for watching!!
Swedish fish is actually made by malaco, a swedish brand. They do exist in sweden but theyre called malaco fish and the packaging is different.
Ooo ok thank you!!
Swedish fish is made in Sweden (by Malaco) but for Export to the US. Pastellfiskar from Lösviktsgodis is close but IIRC the Swedish one uses Beeswax and the other one Carnaubawax (though it was a few years ago I looked into it, so it might have changed now)
Thanks for clearing that up. I was so confused when I got to the U.S and saw that every store sells them. Of all the candies Sweden has to offer, I was surprised that Swedish fish became a big deal here haha.
"Swedish fish" in america is a canadian candy. As the name says, they got the idea from sweden. Same with Skor bar.
Candy are that Halloween feling
every day🍭🍬🍫
One of my favourites is filidutter 😋🤤 Maybe you should try to explain the taste and texture of those to her 😄👍
Oh yes filidutter are so good! And yes I’ll definitely have to explain the taste to her and maybe convince her that she’ll like it more once the salty part is gone haha 😅
@@NichoandAdri Haha happy to get an aswer and to know you like that candy 😅 Yes it would be very fun to here what she thinks of it 😃 And yes, i'm from Sweden 😄👍
why most Swedish people like salty candy and snacks, is most likely because of a longe history of salted meat, bread, fish and so on, to have under the longe and cold winters when food was harder to get by fishing or hunting in the deep snowy lands there for people grow a higher tolerance to salt and also fish was the most common for peoples to eat.
Djungelvrål (jungle scream) is a game changer LOL
It really is! Hahah
Hi Nicho & Adri !
Salt licorice contains about 70 grams of ammonia per kilogram. According to an EU proposal presented in the spring of 2012, the maximum limit for salmiak in food would be lowered to 3 grams per kilo, which would mean a ban on salt licorice. Food companies, confectionery manufacturers and industry organizations in the Nordic countries have protested against the proposal and in the autumn of 2012 an exception was introduced for salt licorice. Salt licorice will therefore be allowed to remain.
Wikipedia.
There are studies in animals that show that the substance glycyrrhizinic acid found in licorice can have anticarcinogenic effects, ie cancer prevention properties.
According to many connoisseurs, the world's best licorice comes from Calabria in Italy.
Sincerely T.
Oh wow! Thank you for sharing!!
if you didn't braid and tie em up, did you really even eat snöre ?
I forgot about that haha😂 - Nicho
The funny thing is that swedish salty licorice is weak compared to the Finnish ones 😂
Svenskjävlar is probably the saltiest one we have. Djungelvrål is milquetoast and just a nice thing to chew.
I actually have a can of pure salmiak that I sometimes grab a pinch from.
Alltid lika roligt att se folk testa lakrits, ptoba arr ge dem Svenskjävlar :D Är du Warloff eller Mandinka?
Nordic taste buds for the win. ;)
The question should not be why Swedish candy is so salty it is delicious. The question is why all American candy is so sugary? I have tried many American candy and from many nations and Swedish candy is the best. American candy is not even close to the same quality and the chocolate they have over there is like dumpster chocolate compared to Swedish chocolate.
😂😂😂
There are actually one swedish licoritce that is saltier (stronger) than Djungelvrål. And that is Haupt´s Svenskdjävlar. Try that
Oh wow! I’d rather not try it 😂
There's a company that sells pots of just that salty powder that's on the outside of the Djungelvrål plus a pot of liquorice that you can literally dip into the powder, it's great and much "saltier" than Djungelvrål 😂✌️
Haha that’s interesting. They should try selling that in the U.S 😅
@Em Å Please, please, please give me a link to that company!
@@monsterlair lakridsbybulow.se/skeleton-shake/
They sell it elsewhere as well, it's just called the "Skeleton shake" and I bought it from CoolStuff before ✌️
@@EmA-oo9xk Thanks! ❤
Damn. Makes me hunger for some Djungelvrål.
You didn’t lose your appetite after I had it? 😂 - Adri
And now I get a cravings to go and buy some bara of "supersalta" and "djungelvrål", and chocolate... but absolutely not "bilar" or "Polly", did not even like those as a child...
Yes I definitely agree that ”djungelvrål” and ”supersalta” are better than ”Polly” ! And the ” lakritsbilar”are not bad either!😄
thanks God it was Saturday
😂😂😂
How every swede laugh when we see foreigners eat our salty liquorice 😂😂😂
funny fact tho, Djungelvrål has 0% salt in them ;)
Yeah other people in the comments pointed that out as well. That is very strange to think about haha
That's not true, it contains ammonium cloride - a salt.
Jag har bara sätt jugnelvrål från sånnahär videos och jag ärsvensk (I have only seen Jungelvrål by theese videos and i am a swede)
The true test of Swedishness is Ammonium Chloride. Djungelvrål is a very, very mild dose. I had Icelandic candy with 50 times the saltiness.
Oh wow I can't imagine it being even more salty 😂
Jag tycker det är kul att ett godisföretag har sitt namn (och logga!) efter en av världens fulaste fåglar, en asätande stork.
Hahaha😂
An advice to every american out there.... its ok not beeing excited ALL THE TIME....... cheers from a swede.
Shiet that saturday comment made me realize.
It's fredagsmys.
But Lördagsgodis!!!!!!!
Hahaha 😂
Alltid lika kul o bjuda icke svenskar på djungelvrål.
Hahah verkligen! :D
Lördagsgodis :)
Best part of the week! 😊
except for 70% dark chocolate I don't know when I had candy, it's been years.
But I did like Djungelvrål and Lakrisal as a kid and Zoo was a favorite, the small boxes.
@@Cookie_moonlove I wish I had that willpower to stay away from candy 😅. And yes those small boxes really bring back some memories!
@@NichoandAdri oh no willpower 😅 I'm just not into sweet things. Give me food and olives and salty things 🤤. I rather make myself a bowl of pasta with chili, garlic and olive oil then eat candy. oh but I did just eat popcorn but if I had pasta or nudles at home I would have preferred that.
@@Cookie_moonlove hahah fair enough 😅. And yeah those foods do sound really good too haha
8:20 twizzlers arent actually liqorice i dont know how they can call it liqorice seeing as it doesnt contain any of the liqorice root, which is what black liqorice eat. Which is why i also as a norwegian find the term black liqorice kinda funny seeing as all real liqorice is black, its like saying wooden trees arent all trees wooden know what i mean😅
hahah that's very fair 😂
Its not salt salt!! Its Salmiak salt which is totally different
Djungel vrål is the best 💕🙂😂
I DO NOT agree😂 - Adri
@@NichoandAdri 😂
Hi, first time seing you guys. It sounds like Nicho is from Sweden? You live here in Sweden or you are based in US?
Thanks for watching! Yes Nicho is from Sweden and Adri is from the U.S. but we both live in the U.S now :-)
Fizzi bubbliz är det bästa vi har haha
Det håller jag med om! :)
I'm one of those swedes that struggle to understand why you would ruin perfectly good black licorice with piss-scented ammonium chloride.
Hahaha😂😂
djungelvrål is the best candy ever
Nicho agrees but Adri does not 😂
Ååh, har inte ätit snören på 30 år
Haha det var ett tag sen för mig med! Väldigt nostalgiskt :)
I find it funny how americans cant handle salt.
There's a fruit from Asia that stinks similar to rotten flesh, but should tast really well.
Snöre doesn´t mean rope. It means string.
Thank you for clarifying that 👍
Klent folk 🤣
996 hej
why americans call salmiak salty?? its not salt, most dramatic reaction ive seen on "week" salmiak like bilar
i heard that american food is extremly salty?
I found out from other comments that it's ammonium chloride that makes it salty which is why it makes sense that it seemed like a taste I had never had before and why my reaction was so dramatic hahah ya American food is definitely salty but a different kind of taste and intensity😂 - Adri
Perhaps because Finland is the only country to call it salmiak. The rest of the Nordics + Holland and north germany calls it salt licorice. And it does taste salty even if it is not table salt.
The reason Swedish kids only eat sweets on Saturdays has kind of a dark origin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vipeholm_experiments?wprov=sfla1
