Although they were so fast , they were still very synchronized which fucking amazes me . I’m 20 by the way and I can say myself this band will last beyond time itself .
The ramones were the definition of cool leather jacket, tshirt with logo, jeans and Long Hair then Joey went "metal", from 1986 to 1990 leather jacket, leather pants with spiky belt and, Long sleeve tshirt and leather gloves they are legends.
Johnny pushed for the speed, he actually clocked the set and lenght of the songs and kept track on how much faster they got as the tour progressed. I think that they should have played slower, this speed fits to some songs but ruins others - this songs sounds superb but KKK or I wanna be sedated really could have used a different tempo. But all and all you gotta say that they were in superb form when they stopped!
TP that’s one reason they pulled the plug on the band when they did...they never wanted to be a nostalgic act limping through their old hits at half the tempo!
Yeah..they pushed it a little too much at the end. Every band plays fast live. It is nearly impossible not to. That is, if you aren't playing to a click. ..and they definitely were not playing to a click. But they were playing too fast. Joey's vocals suffered because it and even Marky had to alter how he played a lot of the songs in order to play at those crazy tempos. Well, I should specify, he had to alter how he played 'those' songs at those tempos. It is different if the song is written with that kind of drumming..
I saw them at least twice,.maybe three times, in '78,' 79 at small venues on Long Island, their home turf. My Father's Place, for one. I remember hanging out back after the show before heading home. Two punked out girls in platforms came out the back door holding Joey up on either side by his arms. He couldn't even stand, let alone walk. They literally dragged him across the parking lot. Tommy and a roadie helped heave him into the back of a van. He was feeling no pain. Even way back then they played every song at a breakneck pace. Dee Dee would scream "...TWO TREE FOUR!!" and they'd play as fast as they could go. The tempo was meant to be fast, but you got the feeling they wanted to finish every song as quick as possible so they could just get the gig done and get the fuck outta there. They were still entertaining as all shit. High school Junior and Senior years...ahhh.
On his drum dvd 📀 Marky demonstrated how he did it; basically, he’s holding it with his thumb and index finger and using the middle finger to control the rebound
I was at the Atlanta, Ga show for thier Adios Amigos tour Masquerade music park. I was 17 and thrown out for underage drinking along with my girlfriend, but the gate let us buy two more tickets to get back in. I guess the show wasnt even sold out, which is wild to me looking back. But it was an epic time I'll always cherish.
