In order for it to be a documentary it needs to show perspectives from all parties involved as well as objective view from experts on the subject that have nothing to gain or loose from voicing their views. If this was part 1 then fair enough, now where is the rest of it?

This happened in Tauranga and the elderly women who owned and lived on the land like this couple defended her land until the bitter end. NZTA took it and are now building a by pass to enter Tauranga. The land she looked after had native Trees planted by her now passed husband, I took one of her last walks through that property with her while she touched and remembered EVERY TREE AND PLANT ON THAT LAND. her heart broke because she was getting to old to defend it against these awful planners.
These people are right ANCIENT land. So sad.

I worked as an enviro on the new highway, bypassing the old Manawatu gorge road. This is awful, we dont need another 4 lane highway. We can already access the country that we all call home. It makes me sick that this is happening to our country, not only here but all over. Years from now we will look back at the way Aotearoa has been changed and shaped into a skeleton of its former self, rife with western corruption and greed. Its now that we need to stand up, not tomorrow or the next day. Its this moment we need to grasp and take ownership of..

well said, though unfortunately us having access to "our" country has little, if anything at all to do with it, corruption has its roots in greed and a four lane highway only serves those who gain from the movement of commerce across it, at the expense of native flora, fauna, Whanau and untouched ancient lands for future generations to connect with.

Let alone compensation for taking someone's private home and pristine country land that cannot be replaced without a proper monetary payment?!!! What has happened to the Treaty of Waitangi signed so many years ago and the promises held within that treaty? We experienced this in Christchurch. Unfortunately as a result we have learned that there are ZERO private property rights in New Zealand. Many Cyclone Gabrielle victims are still trying get back on their feet also with insurance and compensation issues. There is a clause in legislation that when private land is compulsorily aquired, compensation at a market rate is meant to be offered. Instead people have to fight like hell for years and years.

Barthanson3043 I was interested that the Treaty was signed AFTER the UK began rolling back their feudal claims to own everything below the first 18 inches of owned land. The New Zealand government legislated to be able to take people's land off them, to facilitate a railway passage through the Waikato TWENTY YEARS after the Treaty was signed. I'm guessing that this means EVERY NZer cannot have their land taken off them. Thoughts anyone??

As an ex NP lad I have such fond childhood memories driving through that area. Mum would always point out it's rugged, untouched beauty and the drive over Mt Messenger was a special family checkpoint for every trip we made. It would be heartbreaking to see that valley disrespected by a road that only saves a few minutes, especially when the existing road can be upgraded. A well built road can be a great asset, Transmission Gully in Wellington has been a huge success but that did not destroy pristine native bush and pure streams like this would. I pray this insane idea is stopped and NZTA pull their arrogant heads from out of their backsides.

A corridor of unequalled beauty - this is not progress, consider the spiritual and physical invasion/destruction of such a beautuful piece of Earth, this equates to disrespect of our land, Mother Earth, a gift from a creator. Reconsider your part in its destruction and your own mana/karma, one day you may face yourselves in the part you played in this action.

In my land grab by the govt the negotiators from the govt went to our local council and told them to not issue any consents for our land that we had paid the council to process. An official info act request by our lawyer to our council uncovered the email trails. When we went to the council to protest about privacy issues they told us to withdraw our consent applications. That was 12 odd years ago. We are now heading to the court of appeal in year 13 of our fight with the govt for the land they stole off us.

Yet he’s ignored, disparaged, disrespected, dismissed by people in management jobs whose CVs are “Aupair” “Art Degree” “Swimming Pool manager”
They havnt got a f¥€£ing clue, instead of making use of his knowledge they are terrified he will show them up so they do everything they can to bury him.
Hes been told more than once “that’s not how it’s done here mate”
It’s not how it’s done in the rest of the world, Integrity, Respect, Professionalism, are words totally unknown to NZs Construction Industry.
We came here because we had been led to believe NZ wanted Qualified professionals, we came here for a better life, never expected to be contemplating leaving after 16 years. The stuff he’s seen, had done to him, his PTSD has damn near killed him.

Well done on your production. I am aware that the family in your doco lost their case to prevent NZTA building the bypass. The very fact that they were well advanced with construction before they had even secured the route says a lot about their arrogance . When I looked at the WSP web site I certainly had some question marks over their claimed crash savings because they seemed to be using parts of the highway in their analysis (as best I could tell from NZTA’s publicly available crash data ) that were unaffected by the bypass. I put the existing route up on my youtube channel and made a few derogatory comments about what this route will look like after they have buggered the valley, based on their recent cut and fill approach north of Auckland and their “fly-overs” on youtube. Of course I’m sure NZTA would have a PR spun alternate view of how all this went down. I’ve been up and down SH3 for five decades and Mt Messenger was always one of the most scenic sections and incredibly safe if you don’t drive like an idiot, I thought the comment on the cold, ice and fog in the valley was an interesting one and I can guarantee that was never taken into account in the cost benefit. !!

      @johntaeb99 3 місяці тому +16

Just a few weeks ago we drove from New Plymouth over the Mount Messenger though to Te Kuiti, yes its pretty steep in places, however there is no reason what so ever a need for a Bypass. The traffic is very light and the road is safe to drive. If Downers are looking for work ,fix up the roads in Auckland which are in shocking repair. You can drive 30 minutes from Auckland and be driving on metal, muddy roads. Its a bloody outrage in 2024 to be expected to drive in 1930 grade roads. The problem in New Zealand is we give our Politicians a soft ride. Its about time they learn they are there to serve New Zealanders best interests not their own egos.

There seems to be so much missing to be able to form a clear understanding of what the current plan is or the decision-making processes that appear to have landed on this option of all that were mentioned. On the surface it looks like a crazy decision has been made but there are too many things in life to get angry about without having all the facts. There’s something not quite adding up here. Where’s the outrage from the Māori community all over & the NZ community in general. Where the road blocking & sit ins the green environmental protesters etc etc. If the government is disregarding treaties, it affects all ancestral lands. Like what happened with logging in Tassy & what’s happening with Canadian, North American Indigenous Indians fight for their land. In this case this show makes it appear as not one environmental or Māori cultural body gives a rats-ass.
    Very strange…

I believe all of what you have said . I live and work on Hebden Cres in Lower Hutt. We have have always been able to exit our road on to Hwy 2 and go north and south . This affects 30-40 business . Under Jacida's phony ZERO road death policy , NZTA made a decision to close off the south exit which is the MAIN exit onto Hwy 2 . They asked the 40 businesses what they though and ALL opposed their proposal . When they came to me and my business I threw them out with a trespass threat if they did ! Now that they have closed off the road we now , thousands of vehicles must make a +7 K trip to a over pass that is now congested to get BACK to where we use to go south on Hwy 2 . We formed a committee and the NZTA didn't want to listen ! I personally wrote Simion Brown to complain and when I call his secretary she asked when did I send it , I looked on the computer and told her the time and she then confirmed they had it and that Simion would call me . That was weeks ago and now they have block us off from going south ! . This government is NO different to the previous government . The road companies are using the NZTA as a piggy bank to get money for their over priced jobs it is a Government Mafia . NZ has become a horrible place to live ! So we will endure THOUSANDS OF EXTRA MILES of driving on unsafe roading that is not properly maintained bu the SAME company that is destroying the business on this road . Oh and to make maters worse the council set all of a letter saying we are on a earthquake fault !

I've been in the courts system self-representing for over 7 years and these so called experts are nothing of the sort. The expert is the person who has the direct lived experience of events including the antecedent events and conditions that contribute to the current situation.
In this instance this family and the generations of people that have cared for this land are the experts.
Courts do not want truth they want money for themselves and those who they are aligned with, in other words their colleagues, perceived peers and old boys club. Prideful idiots all of them.
