The slasher genre is so underrated. There's a lot of creativity and commentary in the genre. There's often very sophisticated, subtle comedy too. I think Scream illustrates this well. If you like whodunits/comedies, I recommend Clue (it's not scary, but it is suspenseful and a lot of fun). Also, you should check out Misery. Misery is the first horror movie that garnered a Best Actor Academy Award (for Kathy Bates). Anyway, great reaction. Happy holidays to you!!
Fun Facts: - So when Tatum said to Dewey that the janitor is your superior its true cause the janitor at the school that was dressed as Freddy Krueger was Wes Craven who directed the Scream-Scream 4 lol. - So before Scream came out caller ID was not popular at all. The Caller I.D use in the U.S tripled after Scream was released lol. - Billy AND Stu were at Casey's and used their girlfriends as Alibis for being out. Stu was on the patio with Steve while Billy was in the front tormenting her on the phone. The question about "Which door am I at" was a trick question. Stu ran to the front door to let Billy in you can hear the front door open before she went outside through the kitchen. When her mom was hearing Casey breathing on the other end of the phone line you can hear one talking to another saying "tree" and the the phone ends. - Wes Craven lol to get his actors into character emotionally like Drew Barrymore (Casey) and Neve Campbell (Sidney) right before he start to film he would run up to them and tell them something terrifying or sad like dead puppies and then run off and yell action lol. Drew's emotions were legit cause of Wes and for her love for animals lol. - Roger L. Jackson was the voice of Ghostface for all of Scream movies. For every film the actors were never allowed to meet him before or see him during filming so that way when they were on the phone with him it would give them that real fear effect. Wes Craven always kept him hidden from the others to where they couldn't see him but he was still able to see them. He also improved a lot of his lines aswell. - They casted Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis and gave him the same kind of hair style cause of how close he looked like to young Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street who he also climbed in through a bedroom window. His last name Loomis is a reference to Dr. Loomis in Halloween. - Also when he climbed through her window the first time "Fear the Reaper" was playing. He climbed through her window to distract her and turned on her stereo to cover up the background noise of Stu kidnapping her dad. If notice he was wearing the same outfit at the end. - The news lady that was harassing Sidney "how does it feel to almost being butchered" that's Linda Blair from the Exorcist. - If look really closely when Billy was "stabbed" in the bedroom you can see Stu adding the fake blood onto the knife before wiping it off. -Casey's comment about Nightmare on Elm Street about how the first was good but the rest sucked. It's because Wes Craven only did the first one and didn't direct all of the other ones lol. -Kenny actually saved Sidney in his literal final moment after his throat got slashed. He pointed to the back and told her door so she could crawl out. - Ghostface in the bathroom was a prank on Sidney it wasn't either Billy or Stu. - Rose McGowan(Tatum) was actually able to fit through the cat door. They had to staple her shirt to the door cause she kept falling out. Also just before her head got smashed in she herself added calling out "mom" and Wes loved it and kept it in. Rose also picked out her own outfits for her character. The jersey she wore with #10 was also a reference to Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street. - When Billy hit Stu in the head with the phone it was a accident on Skeets part. The fake blood was so sticky and ended up hitting Matthew Lillard instead of the desk and his "Oww You hit me with the phone D***" was a real reaction to it. Wes loved it aswell so he kept it lol. Matthew also improved most of his kitchen scene with his lines like with "Houston we have a problem" "the peer pressure" and the comment about his parents going to be so mad lol. - Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard actually started dating while filming Scream and were together for little over 2 years. So that whole "I've always had a thing for you Sid" was true lol. He originally auditioned for Billy but the casting didn't believe that Sidney would date someone like him lol. So he ended up getting Stu and Skeet got Billy cause of his look alike to Johnny Depp. Funny thing is even though the casting thought that a out Matthew they ended up dating real life anyways 😂 - When Billy got stabbed with the umbrella the 2nd time it actually hit Skeet where he had heart surgery when he was younger so that scream he let out was his real action to the pain. - Drew Barrymore was supposed to play Sidney. But she ended up changing her mind and went to Wes with a idea to have her as the open kill cause no one would expect it. Also would show if they could kill off a huge star right off the bat it would mean NO ONE was safe. -Even though Billy was at Sidneys for the attack. It was actually Stu who she fought with when he was tripping up the stairs you can hear ghostface saying "easy" "easy". The next day at the lockers he was checking his face in Tatums mirror for any bruises and when Tatum was hitting him with her sucker he says "easy" "easy. -Billy was always 1 handed with his killing if he had a knife if didn't he resorts to choking except for Tatum he used the opportunity with the garage door. He gave a signal look to Stu at the front door that Tatum was dead. Stu uses both hands when using the knife and resorts to other tactics if doesn't have knife like the both times he fought Sidney. -Stu was the one that called Dewey about the abandon car and also called Randy about the principal after the whole "I'll be right back". Billy killed the principal so they can use him as a deploy for later that night to get rest of the guests to leave so the real party can began. - Dewey was supposed to die in this one but Wes Craven and everyone just loved David Arquette and how he played his character. They all fell in love with him so at the end Wes had Dewey do the thumbs up to show the audience that he survived.
The opening was on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments as audiences thought that Drew Barrymore was going to be the hero. Well, they were in for a shocking surprise! The film received mixed reviews but became a box office success, $173 Million Dollars against a $15 million dollar budget, released a week before Christmas, December 20, 1996.
I still think Ghostface cheated Casey. Jason Is the killer from Friday the 13th. They didn't ask for the killer in the First one. That makes a difference, but I may be misremembering the question. Maybe they Did state which. Haha.
@@LA_HA It wouldn't have mattered anyway. As Billy & Stu explain the rules in the final act, "if you get it wrong, you die...and if you get it right, you die..."
@@Smoovey 100% right. They weren't there to really test her. They were there to kick off the killing spree and get revenge. Still, I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Casey got all the answers right. Would they have freaked out or kept their word?
@@LA_HA They never specified who was the killer in the Friday 13th series (and even if they did her answer still wouldn't have been fully correct as he's not the killer in 1/5 of the Friday in the 13 movies) the implication was they were taking about the movie, not the series.
@@TequilaToothpick That's true. I was just thinking it out. For example, in the later Scream -- was it this last one? -- when they asked, "Who's the killer in the first Stab movie?" The victim answered that it was Billy Loomis, but the killer said she was wrong because there were Two killers, Billy Loomis And Stu Macher. My friend was completely annoyed because I said Billy Loomis was correct as a stand-alone answer because the question was "killer", not "killers", right? I was cracking up because she was like, "We're not going through this again." Bwahahaaa
The mask in these films is based on a painting called 'The Scream' by an artist named Edvard Munch. The principal is played by Henry Winkler, a.k.a. The Fonz (from a show in the 1970s called Happy Days) so he's kind of a treat for people who grew up watching him. I love that he's in this. The mirror/principal thing is funny because The Fonz would always look in the mirror to fix his hair and see that it's already perfect. Lots of throwback jokes and refs in this film. The 'liver in the mailbox' voice is an imitation of comedian Jerry Lewis (pretty good, too).
Love this movie... Stu being Ghostface was foreshadowed in the scene where Sydney is in the cop car calling for help on the radio. She gives them Stu's name and then says he's gonna try to kill me
Him knowing about billy being stabbed an not being around after he left for beer made it obvious it was stu plus the fact he's having a party despite curfew...he's also asking for the gun for some reason which was a dead give away
When Randy (Jamie Kennedy) was watching Halloween by himself and telling Jamie Lee Curtis to turn around that he's behind you. Wes wanted to play on that with their really names. It was him telling himself that he Jamie needed to turn around lol. The way Wes Craven creates those little things is amazing and brilliant! - I'm glad that you caught on to it with the whole last 20-30mins everything that was happening around the house it was perfectly mirroring with what was happening in Halloween lol. Not to many pick up on that.
I think Ghost face is scary because you would never know to run from him. His mask is from the store and unmodified, he isn't very big and could blend in at any Halloween party. Even if you find out he's a threat he can just take off the costume and vanish into the crowd.
Even the first time I saw this it was hilarious to me. Especially the last scene. It’s sad that so many people nowadays don’t get it, but they just can’t find a way to laugh at the jokes just bc it’s a horror film.
One of my favorite movies hands down. I love this franchise so damn much, fun fact the garage scene with Rose McGowan (Tatum) she could fit through the cat door so they just had her act like she was stuck.
Yeah Courtney Cox was doing "Friends" when she did Scream-Scream 3. David Arquette (Dewey) even did a few appearances on "Friends" as Urslas stalker. Neve Campbell (Sidney) was doing the exact same thing when she was doing all 3 Screams she was doing her tv series "Party of Five". Also that same year when Scream 96 came out Neve Campbell and Skeet Ulrich (Billy) also did "The Craft" together before doing Scream. They were both released in 96. In 97 Skeet Ulrich and Jamie Kennedy (Randy) had appearances in "As Good As It Gets" with Jack Nicholson.
This movie was always meant to be classified as a Meta Satire on the horror genre of the 80’s. Wes Craven did this franchise and the Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy Kruger) franchise.
I highly recommend reacting to "This Psycho Inspired Scream" by MrBallen. The string of murders that inspired the screenwriter of Scream to write the movie as told by a guy called Mr Ballen. His channel is amazing and he tells lots of true stories involving the dark, mystery, crime and horror.
In defense of her not locking the doors, back then cell phones weren't commonplace like today. It would make sense that she would assume the caller was at their house using a landline. Edit: referring to the opening scene
Great reaction! This is in my top 20 movies, my 6th favourite horror. It was the style of this movi e with the comedy in it that got me re-interested in horror in my early 20's. I really recommend you watch Scary Movie which is spoof of this, with elements of other stuff in it too like I know what you did last summer, and Scream 2. Oh and Merry Christmas.
4:08 HOLY SHIT I didnt even see him there he's been there the whole time outside just pause it and you will see him and also if ya didnt know it was a 2 man job that killed Casey especially when they hunged her from the tree
1. What I like most about doing this is watching people overthink it. 🧐 2. Cell phones weren't prevalent in 1996. 3. Dewey's superior IS the janitor since Wes Craven did the cameo as Freddy Kruger. 4. The principal was the Fonz/Henry Winkler. (one of Fonzie's Jacket is on a coat hanger in the closet) 5. Tatum/Rose McGowan as long as I have a face.😍😝😈 6. I love how the inept killer keeps getting his ass kicked🤣🤣🤣🤣 7. Fun fact: The reporter lady that ends saying "People have the right to know." is played by Linda Blair/Reagan from "The Exorcist".
Scream is one of my favorite slasher movies of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes. It is credit for reinventing and revitalizing the slasher and horror genre which we're considered dead, boring, and repetitive at the time. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍😎💯👍
Bob Weinstein threatened to fire Craven when he witnessed the first dailies, until he saw a rough cut of the opening and said "What do I know about making movies. Please continue!"
The new one is too safe in many ways but especially how soft it feels...this first scream was aggressive...it was dirty it was NC 17 worthy....it's so meta and realistic feeling...cause they put these characters through hell at the start and 3rd act..by the end you feel exhausted just like they look
This is the movie that got me hooked on horror movies.. I was 7 when it came out The janitor that was dressed as Freddy is actually Wes Craven who directed both Elm street and Scream.
Craven wanted to remove the line about how the first Nightmare On Elm Street was good but the rest sucked, he decided to keep it in when screenwriter Kevin Williamson reminded him that Craven’s film “New Nightmare” would also be among the list of Nightmare films that sucked
"Dewy and Gail "were married in life They met on this set Dewy became a real life drunkard and ...Gail left Those are actor and actress names. I don't know their real names Gail is Courtney Cox from sitcom, Friends
Imagine if they made a comic book style animation series called "Ghost FACE Stories" and it's just different scenarios like this but one is a couple. One is a Doctor at the Office. One is a Woman in a car that's broke down. Almost like Tales From the Crypt. Idk I think that'd be cool.
I loved your reaction. I really hope you end up reacting to the sequels. Also, the new movie used the term "meta slasher whodunit" which I thought it's a pretty accurate description of the franchise.
Kevin Williamson wrote the story, originally titled Scary Movie, and based the plot loosely on the 1990 case of the Gainesville Ripper. It was a string of murders in a small town... Then it was changed to "Scream" cause the Ghostface costume was a close resemble to the Scream painting. The Ghostface costume was originally going to be all white but Wes Craven the director said it was to much like the KKK so he did the black robe with white face.
When people say his voice isn't scary, you have to remember that this was the 90's. No scary voice over a phone or message had ever been considered scary. Freddy is the only character that had a truly menacing voice up until this point. I guarantee you, Ghostface voice was scary af back in the day. The idea of getting a phone call and hearing that voice on the other end was a terrifying thought. Back when caller idea wasn't a big deal. This movie was truly scary for its time.
29:00 the thing is, it's not comedy, it's meta jokes that only work for people that know about other horror movies or director's names, there aren't many straight up jokes and funny moments by themselves, so it's hard to call it comedy.
It's like scream based on true events if Danny rolling a killer in Gainesville FL did not kill 8 college kids in 1989 this scream movie wouldn't even exist that cool
The movie that saved Slashers! Respectfully harking back to the original Halloween it’s the only movie since the original Halloween that came close. Then Halloween H20 would capitalize on this, the. scream 4 would capitalize on that, then Halloween (2018) would capitalize on that and now Scream 5 is capitalizing on that!
I just realised this now but courtney cox is mainly known for the scream trilogy and friends and oh so convenient billy loomis is 1 of the 2 killers in scream and such a coincidence matt leblanc from friends, in their theme song totally looks like billy loomis from scream?!?!?!?!?!
Ever get those wrong numbers where as soon as you answer, they immediately start talking without making sure they are the right person. It’s usually elderly people who immediately start talking about whatever.
16:59 This same house is in the upcoming Scream film as well. Also, that Freddy sweater that Wes Craven was wearing in that cameo was the screen used sweater in his Nightmare film. One more thing. That was The Fonz who died at 16:40 ua-cam.com/video/t9ge1hXs3QU/v-deo.html
"Why is he touching her? Are they related?" Something that would have been completely innocent -- even a sign of showing concern -- when I was young is now considered creepy. What has become of our society?!?! Anyway, I've commented on this before, but I wasn't impressed by SCREAM when it first came out, and I usually dislike using other movies' success to boost your own effort. But I loved how SCREAM folded other films into itself, especially how HALLOWEEN first paralleled and finally pretty much became the movie (especially the soundtrack). And most of these reactions cut my favorite near-final line, following the remark that the killer comes back to life at the last second: "Not in my movie."
touching someone's face when you're not close with them has always been strange, maybe you just have issues with boundaries? especially considering the concerned face the cop makes, it's clearly supposed to be weird lmao
Interesting you think the conjuring and annabelle is 'true' horror when I class it as predictable preteen ghost story... if there's no slicing and dicing to me it's not horror lol.
Fan fact: The janitor who appears dressed as Freddy is actually the director of the film Wes Craven who is also the creator of Freddy Krueger
And the clothing he wore was the actual one used in the original Freddy film worn by Robert Englund.
thx, i was just typing it out and saw ur comment 👍🏻
The slasher genre is so underrated. There's a lot of creativity and commentary in the genre. There's often very sophisticated, subtle comedy too. I think Scream illustrates this well. I love clue. They were remaking it with Ryan Reynolds but not sure if it’s still happening. The original clue was perfection!
I don't think it's necessarily underrated but just a genre that's not as popular as it used to be.
It's not really underrated. For every Halloween, Black Christmas or Scream there were dozens of terrible slasher movies.

Great movie can't wait for the new one to
come out
You gotta watch Child’s Play you can’t leave Chucky out of your horror slasher movie villains repertoire 😏
15:18 THAT´S LINDA BLAIR OR REAGAN FROM THE EXORSIST.
Bob Weinstein threatened to fire Craven when he witnessed the first dailies, until he saw a rough cut of the opening and said "What do I know about making movies. Please continue!"
I really hope the new one will be good
The new one is too safe in many ways but especially how soft it feels...this first scream was aggressive...it was dirty it was NC 17 worthy....it's so meta and realistic feeling...cause they put these characters through hell at the start and 3rd act..by the end you feel exhausted just like they look
14:02 “Wait, is it really him or did he just happen to have the phoOOOOOOne you beech…”
Hilarious reaction 😂
This is the movie that got me hooked on horror movies.. I was 7 when it came out
The janitor that was dressed as Freddy is actually Wes Craven who directed both Elm street and Scream.
my all-time fav movie
I wonder how many people saying “I can’t believe the doors aren’t locked!” have their doors unlocked
Craven wanted to remove the line about how the first Nightmare On Elm Street was good but the rest sucked, he decided to keep it in when screenwriter Kevin Williamson reminded him that Craven’s film “New Nightmare” would also be among the list of Nightmare films that sucked
"Dewy and Gail "were married in life
They met on this set
Dewy became a real life drunkard and ...Gail left
Those are actor and actress names. I don't know their real names
Gail is Courtney Cox from sitcom, Friends
Imagine if they made a comic book style animation series called "Ghost FACE Stories" and it's just different scenarios like this but one is a couple. One is a Doctor at the Office. One is a Woman in a car that's broke down. Almost like Tales From the Crypt. Idk I think that'd be cool.
This movie has my favorite line from any movie "you better find me you panzy ass momas boy"
I watched the 2022 one a few days ago, and this movie today, and it's much better. I felt way more invested.
Scream 2 is great
Scream 3 is OK
Scream 4 is better than 3 but not as good as 1 and 2.
17:00 70's and 80's economy...
One of my favorites ♡
When people say his voice isn't scary, you have to remember that this was the 90's. No scary voice over a phone or message had ever been considered scary. Freddy is the only character that had a truly menacing voice up until this point. I guarantee you, Ghostface voice was scary af back in the day. The idea of getting a phone call and hearing that voice on the other end was a terrifying thought. Back when caller idea wasn't a big deal. This movie was truly scary for its time.
I felt like you reacted to this already. I feel a sense of deja vu
Same, but gonna watch and comment for the algorithm
Sidney is my favorite charater cuz I love horror movies that have charcters that fight back against the killer
"It's running in parallel" yes, that's what Scream is all about.
In case you forgot you need to see the sequels e m e d it Lee immediately
Why am I crying at the “brutally butchered” part 🤣
14:04 he sounded just like Stu 🤣
One of my favorite movies.
You gotta watch Bkack Christmas (1974), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), and Psycho (1960). All bangers & classics.
It’s usually elderly people who immediately start talking about whatever.
this my dude right here. @ItsAPrimate my man re-uploaded this. I wonder why. Guess something happen. Anyway, love scream. Seen them all.
You must've forgot you reacted to Scary Movie
I remembered liking this and wondering where it went lmao
i had a crush on neve since catwalk, so i loved this movie
Halloween Kills is on streaming. Its On Peacock, and "other" streaming sites.
it’s about time for another scary movie 😌
It’s a re upload. Dummy
@@CJ-nu7dp 11 subs L bozo + yb better
Great reaction. I love the Scream movies.
This movie was first released 25 years ago in theaters.
He said it should be under comedy? I didn’t see him dying of laughter thou.
New alcohol game. Drink a shot everytime he says "You fucking bitch". Also the sequel is solid very good. The opening is as shocking as the Casey one.
16:59 This same house is in the upcoming Scream film as well.
Also, that Freddy sweater that Wes Craven was wearing in that cameo was the screen used sweater in his Nightmare film.
One more thing. That was The Fonz who died at 16:40
ua-cam.com/video/t9ge1hXs3QU/v-deo.html
It passed the censors in the end by Bob Weinstein convincing the ratings board it's a comedy, so yeah the genre should def be listed.
You should definitely see the new Scream movie I haven’t seen a new horror movie that good for a long time…
The one movie with no obvious or really any jumpscares makes primate jump more than any other movie💀
I’m really late to watching this but holy shit 14:01 was hilarious
Even the same sheriff as in Nightmare 1.
Almost at 100k 🙌🏾
I know I’m 4 months late, but the original title of the movie was Scary Movie before it got changed to Scream
Called Scary Movie throughout production until Bob Weinstein decided to rename it Scream.
This movie saved the slasher genre.
I love all scream movies
Did this get taken down temporarily? Is that why this is re-uploaded?
best movie intro ever
Interesting you think the conjuring and annabelle is 'true' horror when I class it as predictable preteen ghost story... if there's no slicing and dicing to me it's not horror lol.
You have to watch childs play
Please do Halloween Kills I follow a lot of reaction channels but I think your reaction would be nuts
To one the best reaction video makers on UA-cam have a Very Happy and Safe Christmas Primate from the UK
Glad you reuploaded this I really wanted to see this reaction. New sub here
The opening scene is one of the best ever. I don’t care what anybody says.
Loved your reaction to my favorite horror movie!! I hope you do the entire franchise. They are all great and fun.
CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEW ONE...THE TRAILER IS INTENSE!!! ....do u have reactions to any of the others?
Little late to Halloween but hey still pumped to watch😈
