“The top line is more important than guitar parts”
I guess this sentence summarise why there seems to be less “In Flames” in IF last few albums. Don’t get me wrong, these are not bad albums, just generic, less unique, less IF style.
Funny when I hear guitar covers I realise all I need is still there, just mixed in such a way I can’t hear it the same way I used to.
Still love you guys, can’t wait for the new album.
From Wiki of that guy. Now I know why Battles was ridiculously over-auto-tuned:
Benson stated that he utilizes Auto-Tune in the studio and that those who don't are "nuts".
Everyone does. The use of Auto tune for in flames isn't something new.
@@RustyNotesTV I mean, of course everybody is using pitch correction, but in a way, that you can't actually hear it. That's the way, it has to be done...
@@BetonBenni preferably, yes.
@@jerrysandstrom4403 and he's using it to an extent, where you don't hear the waves of the voice anymore. Everything sounds like ironed out slick lines... Like a robot or something.
Okay I think now we’ve all identified the problem. Howard Benson. Who looks like he should be producing for Justin Bieber.
I msan he's produced motor head and sepultura but ok
Greggy398 you’re probably right. He’s probably not the problem.
Comparing these new songs to ASOP, they’re not exactly at the same level, but they’re similar. But they’re still not doing the same for me.
And now I know the real issue. IF for me was Anders, Bjorn, Jesper, Peter and Daniel. All of them together made In Flames. Not as we know it today. I might never feel the same about the whole band again regardless of their sound.
@@mobeenrehman2379 I actually love ASOP but SOAPF was hit and miss even though all the songs were technically catchy I felt they were starting to finally fall off. Thought Siren Charms and Battles was garbage and I've only heard some of I, The Mask and it sounds like an improvement. Haven't heard the new stuff that's coming out though. SOAPF was the last one I actually bought when it came out.
Just go back with Fredrik Nordström for the love of god, no one manage to have such a quality off that band. They were the first to mic a cab with a freaking sm57 and the result was out of this world, since then guitars sound thin and overall prod is less polish and probably 10 time more expensive.
Slight correction. He is known for a technique using two SM57's near each other with a specific angle between them. The SM57 (or several microphones) was already used in the 70ies to record electric guitars. By the way, speaking as a sound engineer, SM57's can actually sound thinner than some other microphones which can be an advantage depending on the arrangement.
When you listen to songs such as Worlds Within The Margin or Zombie.inc, you start to wonder if you're listening to the same band. I've never know a band to change so drastically before. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the newer stuff to an extent, but they're a shadow of what they used to be. Compare these lyrics
"Coded in the spinal cord of a trilobite,
Written between the legs on the Meganeura,
Suburban city maps and dormant dictator semen,
Marked their way through time"
to
"This is the fight, the fight for our lives
Scream out loud: This is our house!
This is the fight, the fight for our lives
Scream out loud: This is our house!"
I mean, come on....
Well... Linkin Park did change even more after Meteora/MtM (I count MtM as good album even though it wasn't nu-metal anymore).
But lyrics, yeah. Thing that pisses me about new IF the most. They dumbed it down so much it's ridiculous third of the time.
@@heretic124 This is the comment, the comment I posted, do not reply, or else you'll get roasted, not by In Flames, their fire has gone, their recent albums, I have bought none. Herp derp herp derp. herpity derpity, herp derp herp derp herp derp, herpity derp.
@Marius Haug Let's pretend the Swedish translator is responsible for this mistranslated atrocity. I bet the original lyrics were brilliant.
This is the fight, the fight for our lives
Scream out loud: This is our house!
This is the fight, the fight for our lives
Scream out loud: This is our house!
This is the fight, the fight for our lives
Scream out loud: This is our house!

You know In Flames has changed their style so drastically when you see Linkin Park fans liking In Flames...fucking crap.
Just Passing Through,i totally agree with you
"The top line is more important than the guitar parts." Why did they let him say that?
@UCbEHbMO9SHF_MwT24CoUWKQ I'm with you on thinking it could be a recording term as well...from what I've Googled, it refers to the melody in the most simple definition. I just think it's crazy to take a band that has risen to fame arguably by their killer harmonizing guitar parts, riffs, etc. and say anything is more important than the guitar parts. I'm not even sure what he means by "guitar parts' since those parts are capable of producing melody. In Flames' ability to produce awesome guitar melodies is what originally drew me to them. Don't get me wrong, I think Anders is one of the greatest to eva' do it, and I'm not trying to knock him as a vocalist. He's def. one of my faves, but if In Flames had come to market playing what is on the latest albums, I don't think they would have the fan base they currently have.
Because technically it is? But instead of only using guitars to highlight melody and harmony parts, you could go even thicker with vocals ...? It’s not necessarily a bad thing to go a stray by a little. They’ve changed yes, but it could’ve turned out like maiden where the same album gets made 10 times . But they’ve brought in new fans and for the most part have kept their old faithful base because we know how perfect they still are
Pretty weird statement from him, because in my opinion In Flames always had really strong top lines and memorable vocal parts. Almost seems like he is doesn’t recognize their own qualities and talent
Bands take note. Do it on your own!!!!!
Producer: *Yeah I’m pretty much the reason they’re popular and the reason that they are good at what they do*
Yeah they're popular and that dude is the greatest producer in the world, of shit music.
bunch of old fucks who make pop rock music for 12 years old teenage emo american girls ! that the real success and real art and real fame that we are too dumb to understand !
Commercial, music business, career. Those are the key concept words in making an awesome metal record.
You forgot Airplay
I wish In Flames would get back in the studio with a Fredrik Nordström or Daniel Bergstrand. And also I don’t know if he still does it or not, but I also wish Anders wrote in Swedish then translated and sung in English. Better lyrics back in the day. Bits of the new album sound good so far tho 🤘
I don't know if I've ever seen a bigger chach than this producer. Woof.
Is this the new Blink 182 album?
I wish it was, but no, it's another sad attempt at an album by cockrockers In Flames.
Fucks the haters as always.
Long live the new In flames
The producer looks like a total nerd, and he sounds like he doesn’t know much about metal. The way he talks about guitar makes it sound like he’s talking from an outside perspective.
This producer killed in flames.
I hope that the rest of the album will be heavy sounding as Voices/I The Mask. I think In Flames are finally back with a sound melodic but HEAVY as we want
I was at the pre-listening party (believe me or not). The album is far from as heavy. If you don't believe me now, you will when it comes out. It's full of ballads. Not a bad album, but these songs are by far the heaviest on the album.
@@hatedeceit7980 so these are the only heavy songs?
@@MelodicDeathMetal2019HITWOOD No, Burn and Deep Inside are quite heavy too, so is Follow Me and Call My Name, but they have poppy choruses.
Hate and Deceit - Not sure that I like the sound of that
Great band! Looking forward to the album!
So far the songs released sound great!!
*Very excited about this new album!!*
I met bjorn once he was awesome
Mi Smartphone totalmente intervenido.
WAR 💀
SALUDOS
Songs sound epic! Vocals are next level, guitars are still fresh 13 albums later and the drums! The Production is off the chart! Needed to find out who the producer was... Howard Benson smashed it! 💜💜
Love In Flames
Este álbum es una maravilla, una obra maestra de principio a fin 🤘🏻
2 WEEKS, i`m counting...in White and Light Blue. Yeah 2 Orders ,the same Album.
Bjorn is so cool. I'm growing my beard but I only have 2 gray hairs for now 😜
So is Joe Rickard back in the band, or did he just record the new album?
sempthegreat he just recorded the album. He hurt his back after recording. Sad situation ☹️
Although I don't know the ins and outs of production. I wish they kept to their own, I enjoyed every single album up to Battles really. I just couldn't get into it after I bought it.
Liking the sound of the new album but, I just wish their creativity was left to them. This guy sounds like he's just trying to make the most profit for the band, which sacrifices creativity usually.
But this is the path they want to go down, and I'll still support them throughout it.
0:39 "you people" *figuratively throws hand towards the camera, lets it drop in a frustrated way* In bed, the ladies call him Mr. Subtle.
Cool music
what does "the top line" mean?
vocals
@@MilosMaschaBRE that's good to hear. It also refers to Revenue on an Income Statement, I.e. making money, so good hear that's not what he was referring to.
¡México presente! estoy emocionado por escuchar un disco, como nunca antes! :D
Joe T.T
i hope they change the producer
Add a 333 on the points of the mask and this is coming from the REAL LIFE "I"
next
Awesome album !! Great work In flames ....i love it
I think the new album sounds fantastic! and I have been a fan since day dot. Inflames are obviously attempting to embrace both their mainstream and brutal sides, not an easy task. I hear interplay between the classic old school sounds and the newer evolved sound. The production, mixing & mastering is all on point. & I think the scorn dribbled from the mouths of metal elitists toward this awesome band with godforbid mainstream aspirations, is pathetic.
Moooooooore please ))
So he's the one to blame for this s...
Who do we blame for A Sense of Purpose though? 😅
In Flames has always been about the guitars, now its about an autotune refrain. The new album will be better than battles and waaay better than Siren Charms, but still not good enough to buy it. IF remains in it own shadows. They should have split up in 2012, because the hope for an reunion would have been bigger than the hope for SirenCharms-InFlames to release an album which steps out of the shadows. But still: There is hope.
"waaaay better than siren charms"
hate to break it to you but siren charms are better than the last 2 albums. This producer made IF produce pop songs. Siren Charms not might be as heavy but it's miles ahead artistically than Battles and I The Mask
Fuck the haters
The album is overall great
In Flames feat. Justin Bieber next!!!
Scandinavian Metal vocalist with green bezel Rolex watch making record in LA...RIP In Flames
What I have herd so far from this album is that it is sounding pretty good. Way better than the last few.
Well the bar wasn't set too high, not like they could get any worse without becoming a boy band and singing love songs.
@@SirBelmerD Even the responses to my comments we're better in the 90's, so forgive me for keeping it real. This band is about as metal as Nickelback in 2020 so of course there's room for a love song.
Can anyone explain to me? Producer encourages not to be friends with a musical group, or vice versa?
so this guy is why this album is so bad
MCR lml
sometimes you see a dead band who still struggle for fame and money ! its just sad !
The need to fund Bjorn's beer habit!
Best album so far ever!
Better than Clayman?!
funny how comments go insane if this band changes at all from its first albums. yet, bands like BMTH can literally change genre's entirely, and you see nothing but praise and worship in the comments. why would a band who has been around forever such as this, who is still metal, just a bit more modern, get so much negative criticism, when a band like that, changes entirely in a short time span, and is praised for it.
anyways. I think this new album, will be their best album yet, and I am looking forward to it.
80% of the comments about BMTH are of how much they suck. And no, this album is not going to be even in their top 10.
A lot of bands aim to improve themselves by making changes. Not this one, it's more about money than musicianship now.
@@IconoclastUK you have no idea why a band does anything they do. you can guess or assume, or whatever, but chances are you are wrong. also, keep in mind, everything is about money. don't fool yourself.
@@PygmaApril you obviously don't watch any BMTH videos, because that can't be further from the truth. also, if you hate in flames new material. why are you listening to it still?
@@lostinoc3528 I never claimed to know the reasons and clearly they've sold out to cash in. This is not In Flames and they should have changed name when they changed style (when Jesper was no longer involved).
I enjoy new In Flames more than the old one. Kinda weird cause I always hate the "new fans" when a band changes their sound to a softer one and it brings new fans 😂 For example Bring Me The Horizon
then you obviously don't know a 2 cents about great Metal Music 😊 !!
how in the world can you compare in flames to bmth. get real dude. also if you listen to their early albums, there is a lot of soft shit going on.

In Flames sucks so bad today, such a shame what they did from themselves, and they were such a great band!!
It's really tragic.

@@grgoplazina9844 You still stuck. That's my opinion.
The Jester Race was awesome, everything after that was trash.
I don't know what happened to them after come clarity. Just rubbish.
"It all depends on if you people like it or not"
Indeed, Anders. And In Flames hasn't released a single good album since A Sense Of Purpose.
So clearly this producer is a problem. I'm sure it's not entirely on him though.
