    I was very disappointed how they changed Jamies reaction with the reunion. When he said it is very nice to see you again Claire I was crushed. They wrote it that way to create tension and keep us hooked on the show. Nothing like the book. One of my favorite scenes I’ve ever read in any book is when Jamie could hardly hold the pictures bc his hands were shaking and he fell into her arms like a tall tree sobbing. I was so looking forward to watching that and they cut it. I still don’t think they really get why were so hooked on Outlander. The relationship! Not silly, childish behavior. In the book, Jamie asked Claire if she wanted him for the man he was now bc he was insecure about who he had become and terrified she’d leave once she found out his secret. It was a beautiful scene in the book.

    Finally realized why he kept pressing her about wanting him. when they got married she did swear her vows knowing she would leave the first chance she got., until she fell in love with him. When she told him the whole truth, thats when he knew about her trying to flee, and he loved her enough to let her go. So he took her to the stones, but by then she didn't want to go. So he just wanted to know that she really wanted him this time.

    They definitely knew each other more at this reunion more than when they were wed. When they were wed he knew nothing about her but her maiden name, that she was a healer by that day’s standards, that she was a prisoner who wanted to go home, and lies about who she was, where she was from, and how she got there. She knew that his first name was Jamie, Colum and Dougal were uncles on his mother’s side, that he was flogged by Jack Randall, had a price on his head, was living as an outlaw for a crime he didn’t commit, and was good with horses. They knew what kind of person the other one was through their conversations, which connected them, but that’s it. At this point 20 years later having already been married for nearly 3 years, they know what love is, they have been intimate, he knows she is a time traveler from the future, which is huge, they have 2 living children and one whose death they were able to grieve together, and they have lived through the politics of Paris and full blown war together. He was on the run, raped, tortured, suicidal, lead covert missions and an army into battle, and killed his uncle. She was assaulted, kidnapped, held prisoner, tried as a witch, had a dangerous pregnancy, poisoned, forced to kill men, taken hostage, had full blown PTSD episodes, and nearly raped on several occasions. And, both were forced to leave their children for their own safety thinking they would never see them again, and had to part with their true love as if the other were dead and live as a miserable shell of themselves in a life they never wanted. That’s not taking into account all that she learned about his life over those 20 missing years from her research to find him. I think he forgot how little truth he actually knew about her while they lived at Leoch, huge experiences can make you forget what life was like before them.

    See the problem is they are not making it clear here why Jamie is acting weird and even seems a bit angry at her. In fact there is a scene they shot but cut out or shortened they after this one in which Jamie finally blows up and confronts Claire with his belief that she has fallen in love with Frank while she was gone. The only reason Jamie asks her if she wants *him* here and asking *why* she came back is because he is jealous and thinks of all the years Claire had been happy with Frank, believing him dead and not even looking for him. Earlier on in this episode, after they spoke of Jamie's son, he asks Claire about Frank and if she was happy with him - the dark cloud hanging over Jamie's head in S3 is Frank.

    Also, he said they knew less about each other than they did when they were Wed. As much as they loved each other, does he think for one minute that she would forget anything about him, even after 20 years. She also kept up with a lot of historical items about what went on back then. Thats how they found him. What did he ever do to try to find her after he lived through the battle? Went and lived ina cave for years. After that he decided he was so lonely he got married again. Can you imagine what Claire went thru raising Brianna, not being able to mention Jamies name out loud and seeing his daughter as a reminder. I think she could have raised her by herself. She was a strong lady.She just never had a chance to grieve for Jamie whenshe went back thru the stones as she was so mad at him for making her go but later no, except when she was alone.She was lonely for 20 years as well but she didnt go out and get married again even after Frank died.

    • @SummerDaina
      @SummerDaina 6 років тому +36

      First, they knew each other. They were both fairly young adults then -- particularly Jamie. At the time they separated he was like 26??? At 46 he for damn sure isn't the same person that he was (obviously, since one of the first things he did is completely omit the wedding to Laoghaire -- and our Jamie wasn't a liar). And until she went to Scotland with Brianna, Claire seemed against knowing anything that happened at all. She assumed he was dead. Only when Frank is dead and her daughter is grown did she bother to do any research on anything. If she had, she might've known Jamie was alive much, much sooner. But the point is, 20 years can and does change a person. Neither of them are the people they were. At the reunion, they're both wondering if who they are will fit with these people they basically put on pedestals two decades ago. No pressure lol.
      Second, I'm unclear on what you expected Jamie to do. I mean, she was 200 years in the future. It's not like he could go through the stones himself or send an e-mail. Sorry. That was flippant. But apart from leaving messages in a bottle, once Claire was gone, she was gone for him. It was Claire that had the power to go back, not Jamie who could do anything about it.
      Third, I think they both made mistakes. And they both suffered. He was broken and lived in a cave, had an illegitimate son, and then married Laoghaire for the chance to be a father -- something denied him the minute he sent his wife and child to safety. But I can understand his insecurity. I mean, Jamie, when confronted with Claire's return, is clearly aware that he is not the young man he was when they first met. And he sent her through the stones to a husband who loved her. A husband she loved. And she's back, sure. But only after Frank has died. And since it doesn't seem like Claire filled Jamie in on any details about their sham marriage, how is he supposed to know that the marriage was a sham?
      The reunion is flawed regardless on rewatch. Lots of unanswered questions. I love the awkwardness of the encounter, but it lacks a bit of intensity. And a scene where they're totally explicit about catching each other up. I mean, let Jamie lie about his new marriage. Yay drama. But there are things they don't seem to know about each other, and that's messed up. Indeed, one of the downsides of the season -- and this episode in particular -- is that we didn't get a scene detailing the last 20 years of their lives?? The audience mostly knows thanks to the first 5 episodes of season 3. But whatever Jamie and Claire know about each other is circumspect at best. We needed a scene that was more direct than what we got in this episode with "filling in the details" in voiceover. Jamie seems to have confessed to prison, an illegitimate son, and smuggling. Claire talks about Bree and being a surgeon. That seems to be it. And it's obviously not enough. And because neither seems intimately familiar with how painful the last 20 years have been for each of them, the reunion lacks an intensity I think it needs.

      Shavana Baker, I get your meaning. As eagerly as I waited for their print shop return, it seemed a bit "off" on viewing since it was such a tortuous departure for both of them when they parted at the stones. That Jamie asked why she returned was peculiar at best. How could he not know? A bit of shyness and the quick gloss over of reminiscence as they dined was acceptable for me, but I still wondered until the torrid bed scene arrived, bringing to fruition their deep-seated longing for each other.. Good to know we were on the same page.

    Like Jamie is clearly insecure, and I mostly understand. He didn't just send Claire back through the stones to raise their daughter. He sent her back to her first husband. A man she loved. Enough that she begged for Jack Randall's monstrous life. But Jamie never seems to have an inkling, the whole season, of what a sham that whole marriage was. Not unlike him and Laoghaire. And what does Claire know about anything? He was in prison, sure. She knows the dates of things. But like after this when they wind up in Jamaica, she seems fuzzy on the details of him and Lord John. He lied about Laoghaire.
    I really, really believe we needed a scene that was more direct than what we got in this episode with "filling in the details" in voiceover. • @shannonbardsher9019
      @shannonbardsher9019 6 років тому +14

      Thisnwas common in the books also. I think partly because Claire did not want Jamie to know how miserable she was all those years. That although she raised a daughter and became a surgeon had “a life” it was a false life. She basically buried who she was and and lived as a shell for 20 years because she left her true self in the past. That was a evident in how much she loved Bree and was a good mother but couldn’t connect. Jamie and Claire need each other to be a whole and each protects that with their lives - Jamie more physically and Claire more emotionally and logically. My take is Claire wants for Jamie to feel that Claire moved forward and lived happily despite the separation then for him to carry the burden that she was miserable for 20 years. Jamie could handle that better - Claire was gone but safe and happy. It would tear at him if he knew she had been miserable. At least that’s my take on it

    • @jerseyjoe6288
      @jerseyjoe6288 4 роки тому +5

      Shavana Baker Definitely agree here. I’m a little disappointed that neither the book nor the series didn’t take a minute and have Claire fill Jaime in on how miserable and lonely she was as well. She obviously wanted to know if he’d fallen in love with anyone after she left so it would stand to reason that she would think he might want to know how she fared. He eventually gave her the whole story with Leoghiore (sp?). Would’ve been a good time for her to reciprocate. Can’t think of a reason she wouldn’t want Jaime to know the marriage to Frank was only for the purpose of raising Brianna. Shame, that would’ve been a great scene.

    • @Curlyteacher537
      @Curlyteacher537 10 місяців тому +3

      There is a deleted/extended scene where she states that she wasn’t happy with Frank as her husband, that their marriage didn’t work, she slept alone for most of their marriage, she didn’t come back sooner because she didn’t know he survived not because she didn’t love him anymore, and that once she knew he had survived she left everything and everyone behind to be with him. It definitely seemed to put his mind slightly at ease that his fears that she had moved on with Frank was false and although he might not admit it he seemed to be glad that she was suffering those 20 years without him just as much as he was suffering without her. Obviously he wouldn’t want her to be in pain, but the fact she never forgot him or replaced him put his mind at ease. They also said in a voice over that while they were eating dinner they filled in the gaps of the last 20 years apart.

  • @williamdmoore2865

    What could Jaime have done to locate Claire, M Carpenter ? We know through the books that the whole marriage was engineered by his sister. I don't blame him for getting married. No, I just traveled 200 years in the past where women can’t own anything, being smart must mean that you’re a witch and where I’m under constant threat of rape on daily basis just for the hell of it!
    Seriously, I do not not know why this is popular 🤦🏽‍♀️

      So Jamie was working in a manor in England, a post he got being recommended by Lord John Grey, the Chief of the prison Jamie was in after he gave himself up after hiding in the aftermath of Culloden. They became friends during his stay in the prison and John sent Jamie to work in England so he could help his family back in Scotland and stay out of trouble... he had a fake name but then Geneva (the daughter of the manor's owner, some English gentleman) discovered he was in fact Red Jamie and told him his father and mother hated him and all the jacobites because their son had died in battle, so she threatened him with telling this story to his parents, send him back to prison for treason and endangering his family back in Lallybroch... so he went to bed with her before she married some old guy and she got pregnant... i can't remember their names and sorry if it's a bit confusing, I hope you get it a bit?

    • @poulomi__hari
      @poulomi__hari 4 роки тому +4

      Well, Lord John Grey arranged for Jamie to work as a servant at the Dunsany family. There he worked for some years. He was warned that Lady Dunsany was not particularily a fan of the Jacobites, she had lost her son in the war of Culloden who fought for the British. If they knew he was Red Jamie, the main guy, they would have him persecuted for sure. Thus he lived with them under an alias, Alaxander Mckenzie.
      The oldest girl, Geneva Dunsany, was about to be married to an old man. She didn't want to give up her virginity to someone like that. She found Jamie to be really handsome, thus she tried to seduce him. When that didn't work, she found out about his true name and figured out a way to blackmail him. Helpless, Jamie obliged.

    He seemed over it. Sam underplayed this imo. They both should have been crying and touching and marveling that this was even possible. She’s the only one to shed a tear and it’s was only one. Then speaking of his son seconds after seeing the daughter he claimed to have grieves. The entire episode was off imo. . Then the whole time knowing he was married to the woman who tried to have her killed. The love story sort of jumped the shark with that rewrite from the book and his graphic sex scene with Geneva while Claire got her hands and a double bed. It’s just not the same for me anymore unfortunately. I don’t believe he loves her the way she loves him so it’s ruined it for me.

      You have to remember that men and women are different. For that matter, not every man shows emotion the same. Just because they weren't being overly outwardly expressive doesn't mean that they didn't have deep feelings. Also, Geneva was a conniving witch who blackmailed Jamie into sleeping with her. When she got pregnant, he married her because that was the honorable thing to do. You're being too hard on Jamie.

    • @juliesanchez6340
      @juliesanchez6340 6 років тому +8

      Miss Priss firstly Jamie never married Geneva as she died in childbirth. He just rode her like a porn star (and in the book basically raped her). So the extortion excuse didn’t fly in either the series nor the book. Secondly, no men and women aren’t different. When you claim to love someone and something as miraculous as this happens you show some emotion. That is why DG wrote it the way she did. Jamie married Leghair. You know the one that he KNEW had her beaten and almost killed? Again the reason DG wrote it as Jamie NOT knowing was because she knew doing something like that would be unforgivable. So no, I’m not being hard on Jamie. He did these things, all on his own.

      Reed Is3ulaSamoa I read it. In the book he raped her. When a teenage girls struggles beneath you as she screams stop as you cover her mouth to stifle her screams and you yell no and penetrate her that’s rape period in any culture, country, century. Anyway, Ron cleaned it up for the show and made it a smoking hot sex scene. Jamie and a teenager, a hot sex scene. 🤢. The extortion BS was a joke. Claire and the king is what sex to save a life looks like

      Olive McIntosh Agree. Sam played it too low key. I watched an interview with him where he said that Claire’s absence paralyzed Jamie and we saw that in every episode EXCEPT this one. So for me the Reunion was a let down. And don’t even get me started on how he looked at his daughter for 5 seconds only to speak of his damn ONS son. 😢. Bad bad writing.

    Julie Sanchez: In the interview you saw with Sam, what episodes were you talking about ( paralized by Claire). Was it the first 5 episodes of season 3? Haven't watched them yet. I did watch the reunion though, to see what it was all about. My opinion, less is more, if you know what I mean. One of my favorite scenes , the expression on his face when she ask him if he wanted her to go, and the other one when he ask her if she had been happy with Frank. If he only knew.
