  • The dangers of training in fake martial arts include: being completely delusional, wasting your time and money, and looking absolutely ridiculous while doing it.
    In this video we talk about a list of modern and old martial art techniques and expose that they are total nonsense. I react to hilarious clips of these so called martial arts, from Tai Chi, Detroit Urban survival training, Cardio kick boxing, and even the legendary “No Touch” martial art. This video incapsulates why it’s a terrible idea to train in a fake martial art.

    I seen a group of martial artists compete in a contest to see which technique is best to defend against knife attacks. These were legit MMA fighters with real life experience. Every martial artist received mortal stab wounds. Real life fights aren't like the movies.

      Stab wounds that are Life threatening would in practice be hard to do, but most knife fights won't go far stabbing but slashing As you lose the ability to use the weapon briefly unlike slashing.

    I agree with everything you talked about with the exception of Jake Mace. He's always gone into the health aspects, and never tried to hide that fact. He actually said several times that MMA was never really his thing. He also went a lot into detail on having a healthy lifestyle by eating right and getting rest.
    As for as technique goes, I feel that he really knows his stuff. One thing I loved about his videos is that he would break down the techniques bit by bit in detail. Also, I've seen him many times execute a perfect sidekick, using the blade of the foot, doing it slowly instead of fast, and chambering.
    Absolutely no offense intended when I say he is not a fake martial artist. He's not a fighter, never went into competition, but he never pretended to be a tough guy. He just went for proper technique, and health, and he was very honest about that. I'm sorry, but the level of detail that he goes into explaining the mechanics of a technique shows me that he knows his stuff.
    Now the others, especially that Detroit wanna be cop guy, I agree with you 100%! You're spot on. Some of the stuff he demonstrates has me shaking my head. And the kickboxing moms? I've had so many of them tell me in the past that they can take on any rapist, when all they did was bag work and kick to music. You would be amazed at the blank look they would give me when I would say you have to train for at least a couple of years to be able to use it because that's how the human body works. Did Tiger Woods get good at golf in 6 months? Larry Bird at basketball in 6 months? Hell no.
    Anyways, please do not be offended, I meant no insult by my input.

    Tai Chi IS a real martial art. Just that there are very few people who know its actual combat uses and train accordingly. It's a throwing art, kinda like Judo, and "chi power" has nothing to do with it. And Jake Mace has nothing to do with any real fight training.

    I've been beaten in the street, my own fault for mouthing off, and been stabbed. My training since then has consisted of keeping my mouth shut, being aware of my surroundings at all times, observing everyone's body language and, most importantly, being able to run faster than a potential threat. Currently I think the best defense is foresight. And maybe a pocket full of sand.

    Brilliant content.
    Dale Brown will get someone killed.
    One thing about Brown… and I don’t know if another viewer pointed this out.
    His photo shows him wearing a 1/507th PIR flash on his beret. Back in the 80’s, (when Brown probably went through the school) 1/507 PIR was the command overseeing training at the US Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Most Airborne students would get these portraits done. I also saw no ‘jump’ wings on his BDU blouse.
    It appears he attended the school but it doesn’t necessarily mean he graduated. Im not casting shade; Im just pointing out some background info.
    His original DD214 would list his assignment as a paratrooper; if he was one and if a DD214 copy was not doctored.
    Still, continued success to you and your channel. Cheers.

    You're doing a good job exposing the kungfoolery. It's quite amazing that in this day and age, there's still this kind of make-believe self-defense. Rules of real self-defense are: 1) Awareness i.e. avoid threatening situations, 2) Don't be a fool and stay to fight and risk injuring yourself or the other guy permanently when you have the option to defuse the situation by walking away safely, or by running. If you can run, be the smarter guy, run!, 3) If you have no way of escaping, then you have to fight.
    Training takes years, so be prepared. Put your kids in a wrestling class as soon as possible at 3-4 years of age. Throw in some BJJ and boxing. That's a solid base for combat.

    I've always had a simple formula to determine rather or not a martial artist is real. Either your willing to have a full contact match against competent opponents, or you are not. Rather or not you win isn't so much the determining factor, but can you show some proficiency in your style during a full contact fight, and are you willing to put yourself out there while understanding anything can happen during a fight. Anyone who is willing to do that either is a real martial artist, or surely is on the real path to becoming one.

    Spectacular.
    You know it; I practiced praying mantis Kung-fu and Taiji Quan for 14 years and for 2 years I have abandoned them to switch to boxing.
    What to say; boxing is clearly superior to Kung-fu because:
    - It is the discipline that you learn more easily;
    - Has few but effective techniques;
    - There is real combat;
    - It's the discipline with the best footwork and guard setup ever;
    - And moreover it is recognized by real very serious national bodies;
    In Kung-fu since there are no real entities that recognize it and above all the first one who wakes up in the morning invents something, you risk ending up in a gym where they teach you things thrown out there so meaningless.
    My former teacher in a mountain internship wanted us to do Ninja training blindfolded in the dark at 10 in the evening; and I left.

    The tai-chi demo was ass. As you stated, NOBODY who has even spent a few hours in the gym throws a punch and leaves it hanging in the air for 15 seconds! The DUST guy is also bat shit crazy, there’s zero chance of you catching a soccer kick with the technique shown, especially not whilst lying prone. That boot is firing right through your guard and into your skull. Sure, you may slow it down a bit, but you are not stopping it! The same issue from the tai-chi jab demo also applies to the kick though, that leg is going back where it came from, it’s not just going to hang around for you to grab. I have always wondered how people are convinced that these “techniques” work. I mean shit, I’ve been a wrestler since I was 6 and even way back then I at least had an inkling of what is effective and what isn’t. A determined assailant with bad intentions is not going to “go easy” on you or be deterred by slaps, knuckles to their shin, etc.

They never taught technique. I do not want to defend all martial arts, this would be a long article, but in short, most self defence, kung fu, etc... are based on element of surpise!!! IP Man wing chun forxample designed to go 0 to 100 in a nontelegraph way, if the other person comes to close, or raise a hand, etc... There are applications of its forms for excaping handgrabs, etc... BUT it is not designed to dance around, to read jabs, fakes, etc... That's why old people can use it too!!! It just teaches you fast, short range power (if taught properly) groin kicks, knee kicks, whatever, and deflection of force, littlebit of clinch work, upperbody wrestling, using opponents momentum, and leverage... Krav Maga is really similar, and most martial arts are working, practiced like this, including original Okinawan karate!!!
    One hit, one kill... That was its philosophy!!!
    Combat sports are different, becuse first of all, you know you are in a fight, you are both trained in theory, so you need SETUPS, combos, not just single strikes, to get close, and do damage on your opponent!!!
    Most martial arts are NOT designed against combat athletes!!!
    Most self defense based martial arts can be actually effective, and very good, if there is element of surprise, but if you fail, and a BRAWL happens, that is when combat sports experience is a must!!!
    You need to know at least some wrestling, even as a boxer, specially in small spaces, where you cannot use too much footwork, etc... OR if you fail your KO, and you are smaller, you can be slammed on concrete HARD!!!
    Hope this makes sense... I do not want to talk about sub stuff, like Taekwondo, specally competition version, or point karate, etc... It is different storry, BUT I explained I guess more or less well.
    Combat Sports: fighting mentality, you go forward and strike in a brawl, because you are not affraid of getting hit, in competition, you need setups, you have time, RULES wich you can use, AND you KNOW you are in a fight!!!
    Street: there can be are weapons, friends, SUCKERPUNCHES, slams on concrete, other obstacles, LAW consequences, etc...
    Self Defence based Martial Arts: they are all about, or should be about going 0 to 100 in a neutral postition, should hide intent of self protection by force, should use non telegraph, fast techniques, using pressure points(I talk about solar plexus, ribs, groin, etc...)etc... BUT the problem is, many schools specialise on methods, like Wing Chun chi sau, AND do not teach the most important stuffs about self defence... Sitational awareness, how to look for an escape, using tools, enviorment against a knife for example, not enoungh focus on brawling, wrestling aspects, how to run a way, asking for help, and so on...
    Anyway if you want to be able to defend yourself in most non weapon scenarios, you need to know how to hit someone, and wrestle... That is it...

    I obviously can't really hear what he's talking about because you are talking over Jake and have him turned down so low, but I would assume Jake is not arbitrarily showing someone to slap a guy's chest. At 2:45 he is showing the parry / grapple of the initial strike (depending on instance) and the strike to the person's kidney, liver, and /or solar plexus pending on body position. I agree though, he could be in a 'power producing' stance; however, he doesn't really need it due to the method of strike delivery using his sudden hip rotation (K.E. = 1/2 mv^2). If you are using the aforementioned areas, you don't need a lot of power. I accidentally struck someone in the Kidney with about 10% power once and they dropped to their knees pretty much instantaneously.
    Commander Brown on the other hand has a completely inadequate application of an actual effective technique at 4:30. That will make a person collapse by off balancing the person. In this instance he is showing trapping or pinning the leg to the ground by using the foot. The second part is driving energy through his shin (in this instance), knee, or femur. The body can't correct the weight distribution with the foot being immobilized and subsequently makes the person fall. The technique under most circumstances won't cause trauma to the other person, but it will certainly make someone lose balance and subsequently fall. It's pretty simple biomechanics and is taught in many Jujutsu, Aikijujutsu, and Aikibujutsu systems just to name a few. Much like also demonstrated 5:28. Overall though, Commander Brown needs some serious work. Again at 6:06, he attempts a viable technique (incorrectly) that is taught by many systems, including BJJ, just inadequate under the circumstances shown.
    Red suit guy reminds me a lot of the police academy where they suit you up and just have you fight as intensely as possible. It's ok for training the proper mentality for a fight, but for actual application, not so much.
    I completely agree with Cardio Kickboxing. It's good for a workout and nothing more. I have seen very bad technique, even from the instructors teaching the class for actual use. In my CrossFit gym, I actually had to tell them my background and gave some of the instructors a free 1 on 1 on how to properly deliver strikes. They were on the brink of causing harm their self with the inadequate form for power delivery.
    No touch knock out guys... I'm sending Master Ken to them so they can receive proper training.
    I completely respect that you don't want people to throw their money away, but there is something else that you should probably understand. A significant number of practitioners, especially in the main stream dojos like Tae Kwon Do sign up to do it as a means of work out, much like those cardio kickboxers (and probably the vast majority of Tai Chi practitioner's). There is real Tai Chi, which is extremely rare to find, and then there is the park Tai Chi where it is mostly just exercise. The same is true for virtually every system. Unfortunately, the people that go to those types of classes to learn self defense actually learn very little if any in practice. The people that are going to classes that are going to primarily learn self defense is the minority. The same can be said for MMA as well.
    Comparatively a standard MMA class is going to teach you a lot more basic self defense values vs a standard Tae Kwon Do class. However, the MMA class has one huge detriment, and that is because modern MMA is for sport fighting. While it teaches how to become dominant and aggressive (very important), it lacks in actual self defense application. In my martial arts gym, we have a small MMA class which has turned out pretty high caliber fighters in the sportive realm. When you insert the threat of real violence and more realistic conditions into a standard MMA class, you will find most of the practitioners riding the struggle bus too and actually putting their self a disadvantageous position for self defense. That happens because they learn to do it as a positive thing in MMA under those rule sets, but in reality if the person was intent on killing them and had the means to, the practitioner would almost certainly get stabbed or shot if the assailant was armed.
    Other considerations with MMA is that grappling is a very desirable knowledge base, especially in a self defense situation; however, ground grappling is not one of those. You are supposed to learn how to ground grapple so you know how to disengage from ground fighting. The ideal grappling style would be you making your opponent go to the ground and being able to keep them there, without committing to a ground fight. Committing to a ground fight in self defense is a good way to get kicked in the face, shot or stabbed. Not to mention, you are probably grappling on the pavement which sucks, and to add to that, many streets have debris such as loose gravel, damaged concrete (potholes), glass shards, nails, used needles, etc. Not to mention road traffic if applicable which is probably more concerned about texting and driving than watching for your ass rolling around in the street with an asshole.

    If a non MMA person came to you or on TV and claimed to be an MMA fighter, then lost to style "fill in the blank", would you be stupid enough to think that MMA sucked or didn't work because you took that guy's claim to be real? How stupid do you have to be to automatically take social media videos as truth?
    How many of you actually crossed hands with an ACTUAL Tai Chi guy who knows what he's doing? What about a Wing Chun person who actually knows? WHat about a Judo guy? TKD and the list goes on and on... you get these guys who think they know something is true from watching video "proof" of a fight on the UFC channel or some street fight and the guy just assumes wholesale that that art must really suck balls. OK... derp derp... And no, I am not a Tai Chi person. I train in BJJ, MT, Karate... in no uncertain terms, the most difficult people I ever crossed hand with were PROPER Tai Chi people. They hit different than MT, Karate and they are extremely hard to grasp. You are not safe at any angle of attack.

      @@bfnew4440 - But how do you know anything is true by watching video clips? I don't ever watch clips and think automatically that they are real. Every true tai chi, judo, Wing Chun person I crossed hand with never ever made videos and I would never want to be dependent upon videos to confirm or deny things. All my verified experiences were not on video, they were verified with my own hand and feet against the person I not only sparred against but actually fought.
      The world is not only what you see on videos, that is but a slither of reality....and often times, not spontaneous, but carefully set up, edited, orchestrated... I know, I been in special FX, news, video production since 1997 and worked for national news stations, Disney Corporation, boutique studios.... making all manner of content that appear to be authentic and they are full of choreographed talent. Even it it's not professional talent, and a home made video... it's video and you don't know how many times they filmed something until it was right on camera.
      Now as for those videos of so called self proclaimed "MASTERS of (fill in the blank)" the people who post the videos to debunk "fill in the blank style" usually don't know what they are talking about - the don't use critical thinking to verify, they don't have personal experience... For example, Joe Rogan, talking trash about so many arts that he has zero clue about, whether it's Tai Chi, Akido, Wing Chun etc... why? Because he saw a bunch of videos of self proclaimed "masters" and that was the extend of his "proof". But you ask him if he ever verified his claims by going to Chen Villiage to test any of the actual Chen Style Tai Chi fighters... Hell, he doesn't even have to challenge an actual master, just a senior student... I guarantee you Joe Rogan has done anything remotely close to that. All he knows is his BJJ, MMA collection of techniques and that's the depth of his "martial" knowledge.

    I just watched the Jake Mace one at the start. 1. he was going slow to demonstrate.. 2. slaps, punches, ridge hands to areas like the floating ribs or solar plexus are going to be effective.. especially when combined with a training regime that includes tough hand conditioning such as karate and kung fu. I often meet people in real life at my Gym or see people who make these video's critique from the perspective of their style which is usually Boxing, Kick Boxing or MMA and all they want to do is take the s**t out of something based on their bias.. they haven't tried it, they haven't experienced it, yet naturally they're all experts. Granted some of these 'masters' they're piss taking might be a joke, there's enough youtubers crapping on them to validate that being the case. But I bet none of those youtubers have gotten off their ass and met those people human to human. Too arrogant is why.

    I teach both self defense classes and more long term martial arts . To me, the point of a self defense class is to give them SOMETHING to be able to use to at least have a plan and a chance . So I tell them "This is teaching, not training". Meaning I am going to give them a few basic tools and principles that day, but if they really want to get proficient then it's a longer term thing. Having a padded attacker like in that segment can be very useful, but you have to be clear that it's not even close to the horrible violence of a real attack. There was an attack at Golden Gardens park in Seattle a few years ago, a man tried to rape a woman in a bathroom and she did actually use what she had learned after just one self defense class and it worked. "Not today Motherfucker!" was what she was taught to scream and basically kicking and swinging away as hard as she could until she got away. Just one example out of many to the contrary but it's still worth noting. Also, many people that attend self defense classes actually have past trauma and PTSD so sometimes that first class needs to be crafted in a way that doesn't trigger them so bad they can't continue and never come back. I've had this happen a few times .

    I think you make some good points. However, teaching women self-defense or anyone there is a liability that you do not understand. Those classes are to encourage and empower women to resist an attacker. Now how many elbows can you take to your body or head? Unprotected. Think of how many fighters who die early do crazy stuff. CTE maybe. Granted some of the stuff was outward bull! Others were mass produced franchises. The instructors are not true martial artist. I bet those women were only in a 12 hour seminar. Tell me how much could you retain? So your review is not a fair assessment in that case. The others 😢. Are you come pairing seminars to self defense classes. Then are you biased to what type of classes. See in the heat of a confrontation I will do what I am able to survive. Dear Sir,
    What if I have physical limitations or a woman with high heel and a dress? What if I have my child with me? Self defense is more than rockem sockem. Just my view. But good observations. By the way. Do not knock Tai Chi. It is how the people are applying the technique. Trust me. Maybe not for the ring. But.
