This kid comes the closest to Shaw in tempo and jazziness...excellent. He beats all the others I have heard on UA-cam! Excellent!!. By the way, his tone in the altissimo register is pretty well bang on. Super enjoyable at last!!!
+Ronnie Moore I agree whole heartedly with your assessment. Artie Shaw had the best of everything, arrangements as well as musicians and singers. That's why he and his orchestras made the most significant contribution to American popular music that anyone ever has.
The most clarinetists they can do it glissando up to the final C...Wants more support from the stomach(breath) and little bit pressure on your lips....
Richard Bradley Clarinet I've actually heard it's not a gliss. It's just a very quick chromatic kind of smeared together. Honestly if you play it slowly chromatically and then work it up faster and faster and then once you have it up to a quick tempo then try smear the notes together as you play it
It’s not “supposed” to be a gliss. It’s usually just chromatic because of the fingerings. Also if you walk up to it it sounds more like a finale and more stylistically compelling, in my opinion
Hello, Thank you very much for this beautiful concert ! I am very happy to discover this concerto of Artie Shaw and Matthew Griffith ! Best wishes ! Jean-Charles Bourquin, in France
Interesting, Artie Shaw lived with his family for awhile in New Haven. He didn’t have an easy time there because of his ethnicity. Wonderful music. Thank you
Excellent ! Je suis moi-même clarinettiste (en peu moins bon tout de même) mais j'aimerais tenter la partoche si quelqu'un peut m'aider à la trouver. Merci
He's an excellent classical clarinetist and in my opinion, should stay playing classical and stop trying to "emulate" Artie Shaw and jazz. I stopped listening after the first 15-20 seconds because those incessant scoops would turn Shaw over in his grave and no true jazz clarinetist would add that nonsense.
Have you heard Sharon Kam playing this piece? She recorded it with London Symphony Orchestra in an album called American Classics. It's absolutely breathtaking. I just can't stop listening...

yup, agreed
Excellent for a college aged gentleman. Nothing can compare to years and years of practice.
Nice version! And a great performance by the young Mr. Griffith. Remember, the supreme clarinet player of all time (Artie Shaw) wrote this.

Oh, wow.... What a performance for such a young player... Beautiful glissando and I love the classical sound with some lovely jazzy slides.
Congratulations, you are my best! Thank you very much! I wish you perform my Works.
Oh man, if he keeps it up...we will have a rebirth of Artie shaw clarinet jazz once again.
Great job, congratulations. Even got the glissando up to the final top c, which nobody seems to be able to do...

Ser clarinetista profesional...mi sueño frustrado :( pero al menos escuchar algo así me alegra la vida. :)
Por qué?
Congratulations Matthew! Very good job! I'll keep to follow you...
Beautiful!
George has been Impressed by his work! A true Virtuoso 5:46

Hey the music you play is way harder than his. You're better.
This kid could make the clarinet famous.
zie hier de nieuwe Benny Goodman iedere keer dat ik dit nummer hoor gaan de tranen lopen. in 1 woord geweldig
en een nieuwe Artie Shaw
Who are the one that pressed thumbs down. I cursed you and your friend, family and your loved one.
🤔😲
The oboes look so bored lmao
Am I the only one that struggled to get on board with that neck strap while playing music like this?
not to nitpick (well i should because its yale) but they rush wayyy to much it’s annoying. rushing is a clear sign of immature playing

First 15-20 seconds of his playing. Feel better now, Timmy?
