hi Nick, I'm watching your video because I was lucky enough to recently acquire by chance while looking for a power amplifier the 4 elements of this Aiwa chain: tuner R22 stereo cassette deck L22 prealplifier C22 and amplifier P22 for the price of a song. only the K7 turntable was out of order I opened it, removed the insect nests and rat droppings, changed the out of order motor and the 4 belts and oh happiness this system works wonderfully connected to my Boston Acoustic Lynfield VR40 floor-standing speakers which are reborn and have never experienced such deep bass, dynamic and pure midrange and precise, chiselled and crystalline treble. a real pleasure for my eardrums without ever any fatigue even at high volume. Mini chain but what an incredible punch even my Victor 2020 was driving them not so quickly. This mini Aiwa composition is pure joy and what's more it is ultra rare on the world market. I understand that their owners guard them jealously. I'm thinking of making a listening video. with good headphones you can hear the UA-cam sound and you can appreciate the quality. Play an Ellen Meryl CD and you'll be glued to your couch...go listen and stay as you are. strength and honor. Aiwa!
AiwA. The Best part of sonnyys. This set from time when A Brand was indepented..? I got AiwAAs also, Adf-640 and Adf-660 And Adf-770. Cassettecomeback!!! My first guality boombox was 1981 AiwA Cs440 boombox. Greets from finland.
Fun. I run a Bryson PreAmp into B&O powered speakers. I did retire my vintage Thorens TT for a Protek. Love spinning some vinyl or CD’s on my old Rotel player on the weekends… vintage audio is a special crazy.
You're living your teenage dream - and mine! I bet the ladies go crazy! I love the double amplifier setup. I also just finished watching Techmoan when I noticed a new video from you. Very interesting about the radio digital display trick. Too much fun in one day!
Neat how an older system offers something like the tape monitor to allow that bit of freedom for customization then a simple blue tooth receiver makes it modern . I'll keep that in mind .
Very cool, Nick! I had a Sansui 100w amp back in the day with the original Advent speakers. Still have the speakers and I really miss that amp. It had a midrange control on it which was fantastic!
Sounded great. I loved those 80s systems. I was always buying the latest stereo magazines and reading about the new gear. I had Onkyo amp, tuner and dual tape decks with a Dual turn table. Then upgraded to Denon system with great speakers, but cant remember the brand.
haha what you said about your friends parents, same for me but different hi-fi my friends dad had Technics SC-EH600 and I loved the way it sounded, when I got older I got one for myself too, still makes me happy every time I listne to it. Connected Chromecast audio to it to bring it to current times now I can listen to spotify as well
Love it! I'm more interested in gadgets than Porsches, though :D Fits beautifully in your unit, looks gorgeous and sounds wonderful (I did suspect the Aiwa speakers were the weak link when I saw Techmoan's video).
Super Video - Thank you for sharing this marvel of a Hifi. When I was young I brought myself an integrated Aiwa Hifi but I love this separate model - super cool and high quality. I also love that your model has the power pass through unlike the European models. I will now search the net for one of these baby’s hopefully get one like your with the power through model. 😊
Finally, you're giving me what I've always wanted....more vintage audio content! I have an early 80s Carver dual mono-block and preamp setup with a set of Bose 901 in my music room, not the best, not the worst, but it sounds great to me. Your demo actually sounded great. Was it just the camera mic that recorded it?
I like those spectrum analyzers. I wonder if they can be connected to an A/V receiver and get that visualization on all of your components - blue ray, cd, gaming, etc.? Does anyone know? Got an Onkyo RZ50.
Great video! been watching your videos for years now and i dont know why.. little advice: you should use the same channel for both amps, and choose the channel furthest from the power supply, this should in theory match better and have least noise, great site i recommend about audio: audio science review
From the "audiophile" perspective: The room seems like a reverb nightmare with speakers in the corners, close to the walls and no acoustic treatment. The opposite corners placement of speakers also seems like something that would cause a lot of deaf spots where some frequencies cancel out. How's it in reality? Does this happen and you just don't mind it?
Yes! This AIWA Microsystem power amplifier S-P22 (Japanese original version only) has a BTL function switch on the rear panel. My channel uses two S-P22 BTL settings to test a number of AIWA speakers. Please take a look if you like.
Cool system. I had a relative with a similar AIWA system and it was super cool. One question, have you had these units serviced and recapped? If not, then you should get it done as the capacitors are probably dead. A worthwhile investment for some cool gear.
That is absolutely fantastic! Being an audiophile myself, I love your system, and good call with Aiwa! Your whole set up is great! I have an Onkyo pre-amp with Bluetooth and planning to pick up a turntable. What turntable would you recommend choosing?
Nick sets the trap in this room on the weekends. Ladies, do you like the Python Green lights on the right side or the boring old white lights on the left side?
I have the cassette player SD-L22 and the preamp with DSL bass system, they are very good but the cassette player is very difficult to service because the horizontal loading system.
No CD Plater? Check out two recent cool anniversary album releases: - RUSH 40th Anniversary Moving Pictures - Pink Floyd 50th Anniversary Dark Side of the Moon (The Pink Floyd Immersion series of anniversary album boxed sets are better, since you get #marbles)
@@NickMurray did you use 1RCA to 2RCA cables per preamp output therefore turning each amplifier into stereo mono amplifiers?. I didn't catch what were the wharfdales power handling (RMS) and you didn't mention the speakers impedance and the amplifiers output per channel and impedance rating.
@@ericsmith6692 The Wharfdales are 6 ohm 20-100 watts. The preamp has plenty of power so split the L and R channels and have one amp do the front speaker and the other do the rear. Still stereo.
@@NickMurray thanks for the reply, I have a better idea now of your setup and configuration. I am an Audio enthusiasts and done many Audio setups over the years, I am a fan of the 70s-90s sound systems.

Not exactly an audiophile's dream setup, but I can see how it would appeal to someone who likes flashing lights and other flashy stuff (Did someone say Porsche?)
Nick, not sure I agree with you that Porsche 911 ST is a bit of a turkey. Oops, thought I’d returned in the DeLorean to 8th June 2023… out by a couple of weeks, must get the flux capacitor serviced…
I think you need to up your game. There have been a lot of improvements in audio technology in the last 40 years. Makes me wonder about your judgement in cars, frankly. The “Porsche equivalent” in audio, in my mind, would be McIntosh or even Marantz. He’ll, Sony makes much better stuff!
The crossover episode I didn't know I needed but probably should've expected.
ROFL, I was just watching that video. He's an amazing content producer. You have good taste in UA-cam channels Nick. Thumbs up from Australia
Edit: You read Peter Hamilton novels too. Legendary. If you were a sheila and not as ugly, I'd marry you.

Just saw Techmoan's review yesterday, what a coincidence that you refer to it and that I subscribe to both channels 😁
Love it well done. Great tune. I have a Marantz 4240 Quad receiver circa 1974. Nothing beats the sound of tube amps. Thanks for posting Nick!

Listen, Nick... we didn't ask for this episode but we NEEDED it! About to get an old Marantz system myself. Nice one!

Hi.
spectrum analyzer what model?
BDS-PP31 Spectrum Analyzer
Aw yea rockin the toto
What brand are the speakers? Great setup!!!
diamond wharfdale
Never thought much of them at the time. Marantz, Yamaha etc were more popular for those whom could afford it. This sounds fantastic though.

Too few videos from you on youtube lately Nick. Time to sharpen up.
Wasn't AIWA associated with Sony?
Yes, Sony bought Aiwa early 80s, probably to profit from this nugget of a system. :)
get a wiim pro plus streamer for that, it's excellent and cheap
Pick up an apple AirPort Express and you can stream over WiFi rather than lower bandwidth Bluetooth. Connects easier too than bt.
