Everything Wrong With Brother Bear in 15 Minutes or Less

- Brother Bear is a Disney animated film about a boy who turns into a bear. It's terrible, but people like it. Whatever, there's no shame in enjoying a terrible movie. But terrible movies have the most sins, FYI.
Next week: notorious animated sins and '90s comic book sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

I know! It’s one of Disney’s best movies!
Yeah I hated this movie even as a kid. It's awful.
Koda's mother will always and eternally scare the absolute shit out of me no matter how old I am but on the flip side, Koda learning that it was Kenai who killed his mother will always be the saddest moment in the whole movie for me.
As a kid, I was simultaneously terrified and fascinated by her. A lot.
Its not sad, its TRAUMATIC
“The movie will never explain why she knows any of this”
Bruh she’s the shaman. Shawoman? Spiritual elder of the group
It made me sad that clearly he didn’t do any research on Indigenous culture.. the entire opening song is to explain their connection to the earth and spirits :(
@@vic2111 sorry but this should read "the entire opening song is to explain [why she knows any of this]"
Her occupation in the tribe is being the shaman.
Jeremy is stupid we shouldn't expect him to know what he's sinning
Did the movie explain that? Or what it was? No so his point still stands cause at the end of the day who cares
I'm just happy he took a sin off for "Quit telling everyone I'm dead!" cause that's the best, and really only thing I still remember about this movie.

Can we acknowledge the fact that this movie portrays Native American culture a thousand times better than Pocahontas did.
Edit: “The movie never explains how she knows this.” Dude, she’s a shaman she probably is special connections with the spirits that allowed her to know which bear is Kenai.
Native Americans portrayed as inexplicably magically connected to nature cliche. *-DING*
Idk how "better" job it actually does? There's this UA-camr that made an interesting video about how Disney deal with the language, the culture and the music, and this movie was the "here they did it wrong" case. They use something like a chorus of Russian women to do the the music from the start. I can't recall the UA-camr but was great video. Spoiler alert: the video claim that Disney finally did it well with Lilo and stitch, using language and actually music from Hawaiian culture.

I've always had a soft spot for Brother Bear. Sure, it's a very flawed film but I find the animation very smooth and detailed and also enjoy the campy and wholesome vibes it gave off with Kenai and Koda's relationship.
Not to mention Phil Collins wrote the music.
Same thing with me.
I know it is flawed and is certainly not one of Disney’s best. Despite its short comings it’s definitely a beautiful film and the animation is some of the best I have seen. Joaquin Phoenix is definitely by far at his prime in his role.

The message this movie tells is incredible. Showing the different perspectives of each other, Kenai realizing what he truly did in his own anger, when Koda says “those monsters sure are scary with those pointed sticks” and Kenai realizes that the human is the monster in his story. Kenai’s brother being consumes by his thirst for vengeance and very nearly following in Kenai’s footsteps, like truly incredible and ahead of its time

The irritating thing for me is, in the sequel, it's established everyone, even in other tribes, are fully aware of Ke-nai being a bear with a cub brother, yet when said cub is seen in a village, everyone goes absolutely murder happy towards him.
Koda's a freaking cub, not a full grown, crazy bear. Why treat him like he needs to be killed before going on a rampage?
right? like somehow Nita knew that Kenai was a bear but didn't bother to tell the rest of her village when they tried to kill him
Usually seeing bear cubs in the wild is a terrifying experience, because the mother is usually nearby and you're now a murderable threat because you're near her cubs.
@@RobertMorgan true, though I doubt Mama Bear seeing you chasing after her cub is going to yield any good results either
