I left public school teaching to help parents take charge of their student's education. I love this interview and how it talks about teaching the whole child. When I started teaching the focus was on how to shape good humans and to make sure the basic academic skills were taught to mastery so that children could be successful in life. When I left teaching that was not the case. I hope that parents will find the resources they need and do what is best for their family and their child.
As a school psychologist in public school settings for over 2 decades, I'm so saddened by the downward spiral education is caught up in. Labeling students just to "get them help" diminishes their potential and excuses the guardians of that potential from going above and beyond to inspire them - to motivate them - to lead them and TEACH them. I'm so tired. It's exhausting to "hold the line" when people hurl angry insults and accusations at us - who are doing our best to promote self-responsibility, determination, motivation and just plain old joy of learning. Dr. Carson, your story inspires me. I refer to you all the time in my consultations with students, teachers and parents. Please keep fighting for our youth. I/We cannot do this alone. Homeschooling is, unfortunately, not an option for some of the marginalized or disabled youth - who need access to other services and individualized programming from specialists etc.
When my own children were going to school in the 80s and 90s, I wanted to home school. I was out voted and my friends and family talked about the lack of social skills for the kids. I do agree, I was working full time as was my husband. I found out that the parents who home schooled had put together a whole social program for the kids and they had many opportunities. I'm very concerned about my grandchildren in school. My kids were at least raised in church. My children have much of the same argument from those around them. It's just really hard for working parents but I do believe it's very possible. 😊😊👋👋❤❤

I was a public school teacher for 48 years-retired 2018. I urge everyone to homeschool or send children to a Christian private school. It got bad in the 1990s. Today, I would never want any child in public school or public college. Truth is not taught… indoctrination in liberalism is all that seems important. I think federal Dept of Education needs to be disbanded.
My child is goes to a charter school in California. It’s a Montessori-based school, and we’re very happy with the school, teachers, and administrators. But they are under the CA board of education. If they start implementing some of the policies that CA seems to embrace, we’ll be homeschooling our child pronto. Thank you. Great podcast 💕
I am a mother and a grandmother . My child and grandchild are both grown adults. I have been saying that these parents that have children of school age needs to get their children out of the public school system because of all of the corrupt system. If I was at child barring age I would never send them to public schools . I have watched some of these children grow up and they have no earthly idea of what they have learned in school as far as math society skills and their knowledge is like ( I don’t know) like they are brain dead. The other thing is they are always very hostile towards anything you try to talk to them about. Don’t get me wrong there are a handful that actually has done very well and actually carries on a great conversation. I can almost guarantee that that has to do with family backing them up and discipline when needed.
I am a foster and adoptive parent and I've also noticed how often my children respond by saying 'I don't know', are hostile about the smallest things and rarely can have a meaningful conversation.
The fact is that each state may have Standards that don't line up with the Biden plan; if a large % of parents would insist on what curriculum is best for Their kids they need NOT succumb to inferior standards. It is possible.
We could have the best public school in the world, but certain politicians on both sides took it over and destroyed it from the inside out. This is to use our tax dollars on their programs to make them rich at our expense.
I used to homeschool through a public charter. I did not have to teach the woke agenda and was able to choose my own curriculum. Unfortunately, I moved to a state that does not have charters, so I can no longer afford to homeschool. I am so disappointed in our local schools. My kids are no longer getting the quality of education that they were.
@@vashtistewart8392 Unfortunately, no. You have to be a resident of the county that the school is in or one of the neighboring counties. I had to pull my kids out when we left the state.

It’s about time. Homeschooling is the best way for teaching your child.
Our children and grandchildren are all in private schools and home school I'm so blessed by that. 😊
So grateful my grandchildren are involved in Classical Coversations! Thank you, Dr. Carson

Just an excellent interview! Great articulation of the beauty, goodness, and truth of educating our children.
In Texas we still pay public schools taxes, and we are sending our children and grandchildren to the private schools, so we are paying both schools.
The public education system odd a failure on every level. Homeschool. Your. Kids.

Can't u still use that other state Charter since there's none in your new area?

You are not a Christian until you follow the commandments of Jesus Christ. Not Paul the Pharisee, not OT Jewish laws.
