Wow Bro,so we are passionate about This Thing Call Music!!!! I'm a Bass Player and when the Groove is happening there is no Other Feeling. From your response you understand. Thanks for link those boys were feeling that Gig for sure! Keep that Groove Going in Germany and Keep go in California.
I’ve loved this video for years. It’s got all my favorite musicians in it. What a supreme collaboration. It’s now become bittersweet to watch. Rest In Peace Joey. ✌️
Love the discipline and restraint of Roy 'Futureman' Wooten on the drums, and Victor Wooten on bass. They have the chops to go nuts, but instead they keep it inside. It just heightens the tension and keeps things on the edge. Me with my ugly face...
Tim Cardona Virtuoso musicians tend to overdo it, particularly Victor Wooten. I was very glad to see them all play like reasonable people, it makes for better music.
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney That's not necessarily the case. Certain people appreciate different genres and therefore different ways of musical expression. I myself am a technical death metal fan (don't ask how I even ended up here lol), so I appreciate musicians "overdoing it" more so than those that exhibit more laid back playing. It's not objectively "better" music, it's just the majority's favorite play style; I won't pretend I hold the popular opinion or anything, don't worry.
Papa Broly Well, fair enough. Fans of the style they just played, however, almost exclusively prefer that the players stay in the pocket and solo to support the song, not to show off blinding speed while not really staying in the groove.
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney Yeah, I understand that. I'm always looking for instrumentalists to go off on an unexpected tangent to be perfectly honest. It just mixes things up and thereby makes the song more interesting to me. But I totally see what you mean.
oh shit!!! I used to record these on VHS when I was a kid. I still remember Oteil Burbridge playing butter biscuit.. Sadly one day I was at school and my parents didn't know I was saving all the videos and recorded over it. I looked forever, glad to see these can be found on youtube.
I don't know where to even start with the Love for this💗,...Tuck,...Victor,..I mean, when your drummer makes a visit from the future to lay down a track....🤯
Smooth Jazz version of one of my very favorite Stevie Wonder tunes. I can't stop smiling! Tuck, Derek, Joey, Victor and they boys are some of my all time fav's! Yow baby! I am going to listen to this again and again and...….
Something for everyone. Those guitar lines are so lyrical and sweet and the depth of restraint is luscious. If i could experience the rest of life lost in this version, heaven is redundant.
Knowing when to play, and what to play, at the proper time.... is the key. Listen, feel it... communicate with your other players - musically, and visually. It's magic when the pieces of the puzzle come together. Everybody doing their part, tastefully.
This was a pretty bloody epic line up of musos! The musicianship in this tune was beautiful to watch and listen to. The dynamics and emotional control of each musician was art in motion.
Victor Wooten always has this expression of joy on his face when he's playing. I'm working so hard just trying to stay in the pocket and not mess up the notes, when will my face get that automatic smile? When I know I nailed a tune or a lick. That's the work part. But the playing part on stage, that's the smile for me, man
Yooo, the sax player at 0:11 is wearing a Music Farm shirt. That venue opened just nine years before this video(1991) in Charleston, South Carolina. Crazy, I played there when I was 15. I wonder what his story is.
Incredible Version - in this version Never thinking about lyrics - this Song Needs no Voice. What an incredible discipline, but so soft and easy playing by everyone. That‘s Whats Music is for - pure feelings!
Fabulous. I saw VIctor Wooten in person and the year was 2013, November, in a Rio Campo Grande (district) music school. He literally flew all over the neck, and it was total freedom of spirit, splendorous notes, everything. After the show, I showed him my live S.M.V. in Viénne, Italy, 2009, he, Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller. He liked the dvd. I liked Grits on it. But in Campo Grande, it was playing in his bass what beauty of music is all about. Exciting fingerings, slaps, boogie oogie free jazz rock blues everything. Yeeeeeeeeeeah!
There’s that proof. Funk is all in the dynamics. Energy is not shown through volume, but dynamics and rhythm.
In words of a wise man: it's so funky and it's low volume
the universe works well, haha...

I'm trying to pay my bus fair, but I can't find my change with such a deep pocket - god damnit.

Wow Derek Trucks, Joey DeFrancesco, Victor Wooten and Jeff Coffin in one song together...

Why would anybody "go nuts" on a funk tune, especially bass and drums?

That organ solo was nuts. Everyone grooving so hard.
Energy🚂
Victor Wooten got you the click
yep
I mean he is the thumbnail
Actually Derek brought me here but sure am glad I found it
I'm glad Vic brought his partner in crime, Mr. Coffin. Time to listen to some Bela now to get the full effect...
Never heard anyone creep the song like this, love it
How did this ensemble of musicians escape my radar for 2 decades?! 🤯
Hhhhhhhh
Derek Trucks maturity and composure is just staggering. Doesn't overplay, just does his job like a pro in an ensemble...
Joey Defrancesco was always killin it so hard haha
Love this!, so chill, so relaxed!, jazzy!, omgA love this sound!!! 👍👍👍👍🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
This set is a very good lesson on pocket playing.
Miss the days of BET Jazz. I used to record every episode of Studio Jams. RIP Kofi and Joey D.
Ditto
Never in my life would I have expected this ensemble and I am lucky to have lived to see it.
Someone gotta thank or give Victor Wooten one of these days. Most just steal his licks without acknowledging this legend.
most drummers would go crazy on this but a good one wont.
Love the touch and restraint of the drummer in this.
exactly
Douglas Ellison yes sr
It's really cool to see Future Man playing a regular kit here, rather than the Synth-Axe Drumitar that he plays with the Flecktones.
It's what you don't play is what's important
Trucks and Wooten on the same song is like a dream come true
Literatetree i agree these videos are gems
Literatetree I hear Victor and Derek on this and tears started welling up!
This is a stellar moment in time!!! Young Trucks, Victor and Joey!!!!!
victor is killing again.. he is like rhythm biscuit for my ears
What, pray tell, is a rhythm biscuit?
Biscuits that are consumed by the ears
Rhythm biscuit, I'm taking that excellent descriptor. Thanks.
Masterpiece version of this song ❤
Is that Victor Wooten on bass?
I read the liner notes and yes it is! This was 24 years ago!
A very young Derek Truck...nice! What a cool version of this classic!

The amount of raw talent in that studio............. wow
First I've ever seen Futureman play a kit!
Thank you for the excellent music. So refreshing to hear Tuck Andress play guitar here.
I wish these guys could play together once more
Already miss Joey. Rest in peace, master.
WOW!!!! star studed, taste, time, feel, and futureman!!
This track literally has one of the best, if not THE best organ solo I've ever heard in my life

Wow! Gave me goosebumps..
The keyboard player and drummer paired so well, I freaking love the tasty lil outro at 3:39. The guy was swaying too.
This is what heaven is like.
The eclectic library. Thank you.

all amazing, but the keyboards were just a pure joy to listen to in this one.
A good musician can steal the show and go crazy.
