  • Hi Guys! I'm back after a long hiatus, but I wanted to share some of my thoughts as I entered this relaxed hair journey. I watched a plethora of videos like this myself before making the (very easy) decision to relax my hair again after years of being a 4b/4c natural.

Gracious, I am! And my neck is exhausted from all that twisting, manipulating, etc., just to maintain some degree of neatness appropriate to my age, nevermind attractiveness. Worse of all is only being able to comb and brush one's hair out when sopping wet and freshly sprayed with a detailer, and ending up with scalp cysts from plugged follicles dealing with all that gummy, greasy detailer falsely promising to "stretch" 4C hair. Well, maybe the promise is not altogether false: It works if one rolls the gunked up tresses on hard rollers overnight ( or sit under the dryer) and plan to keep the style 4 to 18 hours, depending on the humidity. If you plan to maintain a healthy, rigorous exercise routine ( and shower afterwards), you can forget it unless you plan to get braids or twists (which actually cannot be p washed frequently enough either). There's a reason a certain famous political wife is sporting a weave.

I’m about to comb out my 4c locs and go back relaxed. I learned a lot about my natural hair but after 10 years I’m ready to go back relaxed lol

I agree. The caveat is to read the literature on relaxers and health. Don't get them too frequently and don't let "stylists" leave the chemicals in too long. Research shows that burns allows chemicals to get in one's system which may prove carcinogenic, and that frequency and years of use may also be factors.

We all get to that point of not wanting to deal with the curls! Can’t believe people had so much to say about YOUR hair. Like I said you look beautiful either way.

Hi, I'm new here. I discover you by looking for 4B hair since I have the same type of hair as you and I want to practice my English by watching English videos of the same context I'm interested in. If you feel good with relaxer hair, then go ahead! If you want to go back to natural, then do what lets you feel better. The most important thing is to be happy with every decision we make. BTW, You have beautiful hair, thank you for sharing! Hopefully, you can keep posting videos sharing with us your hair regimen with your relaxer hair or anything you want to share with us. 😃

Thank you for your support! There is more to come… just working to relearn what works best for my relaxed hair and experiment with it live for you guys 🥰

I used to apply the softest relaxer as a hair mask and leave it 20-40% less then the time appointed. Made my hair very manageable. And undo the process by applying oily treatments or hot oils treatments, use olive oil on curls and stuff like that.

Can't say I blame you. If it weren't for sensitivity, I'd return to at least a texturizer. Try keeping natural 4C hair washed and neat, nevermind attractive, when one is dealing with a post-accident whiplash and dermatitis which requires washing at least twice a week. Not only do all those " elongating"/ "stretching" techniques require a lot of manipulation and definitely aggravate carpal tunnel and any neck condition, but it requires the use of tons of greasy and/ or gummy product for manageability that lasts all of 18 hours, if one is lucky. When I used a relaxer, never more than 4X a year, I never, ever used grease or oil. To avoid dandruff and painful oily cysts in my scalp, my hair must be washed at least twice a week. Braids, wigs, weave, none of that is an option for me because the irritation would not permit me to sleep! Ugh!

Omg same!! I’ve had relaxers in the past and it was not even NEARLY the pain I’ve experienced being natural and my scalp is sensitive to every thing so protective styles don’t work for me. I’m either going relaxed or going back to locs. Tired of my
      Hair consuming my life.

Just remember we advised Black women to 🛑 relaxing because of the cancer occurring as a result.

Correlation, not causation. But go off. I don’t even have a relaxer anymore.
