    I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well.With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings.For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance.For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.

    I have a long range rifle that my father built for me just before he passed. It has a horrible scope on it. My plan is to get a much needed scope and these look like they're going to be just the ticket. I miss my father and love him dearly, he just couldn't afford such a nice scope and rings that his rifle deserves.

    I understood everything you both said. I understood why it's machined, coated then machined together again. I have been in a machine shop since 2009. My career is checking machined parts since I got off a cnc.
    With that said, I would like to know what makes these superior (if at all) compared to other rings in terms of if they are all installed correctly. I've heard both cheap and expensive dual ring mounts holding zero just fine after abuse and usage. If you mount these 419 rings, beat up the rifle etc up and it holds zero, that doesn't show me why it's superior to other rings or even Spuhr mounts.

      Pretty sure all high quality ring sets are line honed. Laser etching the serial number is an add on that cost them next to nothing that they can charge another $50 for. I’ll stick with my Nightforce rings that are just as good and cheaper.

      *_"I've heard both cheap and expensive dual ring mounts holding zero just fine after abuse and usage."_*
      Exactly... I've had both cheap and expensive rings over the years that both worked just fine, did exactly what they are supposed to do and held zero with on problems. The thing is, there is enough suckers out there that fall for it or just "have to have the name" that allows companies to sell stuff for far more than its truly worth.

      Pretty clearly not about improved functionality. It's machining porn, and it's awesome at being that. They almost certainly work at least as well as the alternatives. The way they are manufactured is something people may or may not be interested in, but the people who are interested will be willing to pay for it. It's the Ford vs Rolls Royce thing - RR was never *better*, never lasted longer, but you payed for the "handbuilt by elves and virgins" part.

    Nice rings like all things that they make but I think many ring company’s been doing just fine for much longer than area419 been in existence. Badger and near manufacturing make really nice stuff that is proven to work in way worse conditions than a prs match. Many more companies that make super nice rings too. I think your time would be better spent making new things that no one else has than trying to improve something that doesn’t need improvement.

    Very nice!!! For years it was always buy and build using the best action that you could afford, if that was a Remington 700 the threaded holes for the rail would have to be located exactly inline with the bore and recut to a larger size, then bed a rail to the action, mount the rings then lap and bed those to the scope. Don’t even get me started on some actions like Weatherby’s. It looks like a solution to all of this is finally on the market or will be soon. A stress free scope is a happy scope.

    “Take the extra time and do it right.” I like that. I wish/ hope I could justify these some day. I don’t mind cost when quality comes into play. The question is, do I need that level of quality for what I’m doing.

    • @CJ-ty8sv
      @CJ-ty8sv Рік тому +1

      except "taking the extra time and do it right" is more of an end user thing more than anything because there are aspects that they can not account for such as tolerance errors in other parts you are using. doing it the "correct way" will allow even a cheap $80 set of right to do exactly what rights are supposed to do.

    The reason I like 1 piece mount is so I can swap my scope to another rifle and its already level in the mount and the zero is generally on paper also. If I had a collection of nice glass that didn't move off the gun I'd use rings. I do own one nice scope but unfortunately it hasn't made me a better shot lol. For average Joe's like myself a high end optic is definitely in the nice to own but totally unnecessary category.

    My take away is that your scope rings run only as true as your bases and holes in the receiver. You could have a pair of high dollar identical rings but if the receiver wasn’t drilled and tapped square the rings are pointless and you probably need to still lap in your rings to get proper fit on the scope. Orrrrr am I wrong? Or am I right? Either way I’m just here for the snacks

    • @area419
      @area419 Рік тому +1

      Like we call out, if your rail is not integral to the receiver, the one-piece mount may be the better option, but with SO many custom actions out there with integral rails, the ability for rings to be really square goes way up.

      @@area419 absolutely! I think your one piece mount will be awesome!! It’s crazy how updates in technology and equipment now allow for such tight tolerances. Until you mentioned the issues with mass produced receivers not having square threads I always just assumed of coarse they’re straight. But why would they be? Not much is on that type of action. Sorry, but only the front and rear base sections need to be machined as a pair and then lapped once installed. The top does nothing for alignment. It should float and clamp to the lower section.
    If you are using two piece mounts and you don't lap them, you are wasting your time. How do you ensure there is no misalignment due to some external influence otherwise ?
    I'll stick to the Spuhr ISMS because they avoid this issue. the Spuhr ISMS allows me to remove and replace my scopes from rifle with perfect return to zero, every, single, time. Across every rifle.

    In my opinion these guys at area 419 make a mountain out of every mole hill they can think of then set out to convince everyone you need this level of machining porn to shoot accurately. It just isn’t so. I’ve been in high precision CNC programming - set up-running for over 30 years so yeah I see the “coolness” of it. I don’t see the practical appeal especially and the price point.
