Dude it just blows my mind every now and then. We humans have built a damn space station. Sure, it's only a baby step away from Earth but it's still amazing
I can't even begin to imagine how unreal that must feel, looking out and knowing full well that everything around you is empty and stretching out for ever. That that glass is one of the millions of pieces all working together to keep that little bubble of air together. And looking at earth, the size, the billions and billions of people and animals and rocks, wow. I can't believe the awareness you get from being in that cupola doesn't make you dizzy!
amazing footage I cant believe I can just sit at home and see that. Its mind blowing. Thank you so much for sharing I always found space very interesting. Looking forward for more.
The longest anyone has been in space is actually 438 days (14 months and 4 days); that record is held by Valeri Polyakov. Two other people have spent a year or more in space on a single flight as well.
I at first tought hes Back On earth but when he pulled the camera a saw that tlit was Earth from space Thanks for showing it to me I Loved to be up there
They probably just watched too many International play station "How to" videos.... How to sleep in space. How to shave in space How to do your nails in space. How to poop in space. How to shampoo in space. How to masterbate in space. How to brush your teeth in space. How to clean up in space. All produced to entertain those with minimal intellect.. I'm sure if you or I watched them all we'd be thinking the same delusional thoughts.....
they say its 400km up. So it is thermosphere where temperatures are highly dependent on solar activity, and can rise to 2,000 °C (3,630 °F) while the pressure is very very low but how low ? Can you find out what is the air pressure in the Thermosphere ?
technically, yes, it's possible for the station to be stopped relative to the earth, it's called Geo-stationary orbit, Only thing is that it's a rather higher and more tricky orbit to keep than the ISS's rather quick and lower orbit. takes more fuel to reach and to maintain.
Would the vacuum of space not send this thing way out? Also how does the combustion rockets work with no oxygen and what do they push on with no resistance?
Is it possible to turn the station over so the coupla is facing away from the earth or up so you see nothing but space. and on the dark side of the earth would you be able to see stars clearly?? or the large and small magellanic clouds....
Yes, it has to move. Gravity doesn't simply disappear in space, it drops off fairly slowly compared to the altitudes manned spacecraft frequent. The simple version is that the station has to move very fast in a circle around Earth so centripetal force equals gravity. If the station stays still over a point on the ground *at its altitude*, it will be affected by nearly the same amount of gravity as is present on the ground and will plummet.
I wonder if they are just allowed to do whatever. Like if they get board they just put on a space suit and use a propulsion backpack to float around in space or something. What do they do up there, are they searching for new stars or something?
Thank you!! This makes me so proud of my Human race!! Great job, NASA!!!...now...I wish I could visit you guys!! God bless you all!!! ( your wonderful videos showing Earth always makes me cry!!) It's just so beautiful!!! :*****O
Just watching this is fullscreen I actually felt a bit scared- like the shuttle was going to start crashing into the earth. How close can you get to the earth without being subject to gravity?
Whenever I go into a high altitude, take in mind for me high is 30 feet, I always get a weird pulling feeling in my groin. Not a pleasurable one, but I rather annoying one. I wonder how bad it would be for me up there in the space station...
I`m looking and can`t believe... so beauty and these people have such amazing opportunity to live in surrounding of this incredible scenery among stars and observe the Earth...
I think this new R1 robot to be launched soon is exactly the way we should be going, it looks amazing and will interest the public..you need to interest the public and excite them, for far to long space has been too clinically scientific, aimless..and boring..yet its the greatest adventure we have embarked on..its almost like the USA is giving up with it and letting others lead the way.
Probably a very stupid question, but why cant we see any stars? Too much light or something like that? I've always wondered.. because it should be quite a sight to see..
do the men onboard the ISS never see stars? ive heard there are no stars visible with the bare eye because of the light reflection of the sun or the earth or something like that but i could be wrong though. can anybody explain? it would be a shame if they never see any stars i think
@Warnerchild Yes!!! It makes me cry!! Most humans don't know how wonderful we, humans, are able to be and do such wonderful things!!! God bless NASA and all the people on Earth with more wisdom!!!
What happened to the song that was in this video for 10 years? It's a shame because that background music really made the video. The song was an instrumental version of Serenity by Lisa Gerrard for those who care to know.
@Cloroxbleach1234 The Earth is very, very bright, so the shutter on the camera automatically drops to low light sensitivity to get a picture that isn't like staring into the sun, but then unfortunately not picking up the dim light of the stars. :) It's like trying to find stars on the nightsky while staring into a flashlight.
@67tr876 i was wondering the same thing. I think some stars would definitely be visible. It probably just has to do with the camera and the glass window
@newworld322 In daytime, the earth is bright as, well, day. Stars are quite dim compared to the earth and sun, so for a camera to see them they have to be adjusted to their light levels, but to do so would put the earth at a proportionally-greater brightness. If they are looking off into the distance, not with the space station or earth or sun in view, they'd probably be visible.
That...is...AWESOME!!!!!I'm so glad I came across this channel...I found it by watching the "Gangnam Style" parody(great BTW),but I stayed and subscribed for the cool videos..I am a TOTAL science geek and I
they are subject to gravity :) it's the thing keeps the station on it's orbit so it does not fly away. It's like they are in a freefall.. around the earth, constantly missing it because they fly forward so fast.
Wow. I get goose bumps from watching this. Never saw something like this before, and it seems so close. Just like looking out of an ordinary window, but so far away from earth!
unless it was an experiment, i don't think it would have been likely..? don't they monitor the nauts' vital signs all throughout the flight? stuff happens to your body up there, sex seems a bit risky
It's closer to 10 cm, actually... "The windows are made up of four panes - an inner scratch pane to protect the pressure pane from accidental damage, two pressure panes 25mm thick to maintain cabin pressure, and finally an outer debris pane." lmgtfy.com/?q=iss+cupola+thickness
naval tradition is pretty deeply ingrained into human culture, though in this particular sense its more because back in the 50s and 60s NASA used airforce pilots, and the same directional scheme is used for aircraft
Ok to answer some of the questions people have asked:. The reason you don't see stars in the video is due to the fact that the earth is so bright. Its blocking the camera from taking an image of the much dimmer stars. Not unlike how the moon does it when you take pictures of the moon and see no stars around it. Second, why unable to see the satellites and debris. This is because most of the debris is in a higher orbit than the ISS. The items that are in the same, or similar, orbit to the station are often tiny. Small screws, gloves, trash, small bits of rock, etc. They're so small, and so dim, that the bright light of the sun on the earth obscures them. However, they're still a threat to the ISS and the crew. Given the velocities of the debris, and the speed the station is traveling, even a small impact can do damage. They actually have cracked one of the few small windows on the station and damaged solar panels that, then, had to get replaced.
Dude it just blows my mind every now and then. We humans have built a damn space station. Sure, it's only a baby step away from Earth but it's still amazing
The darkness behind the ISS is terrifying. I can’t imagine the “out of the world” experience. Seems awesome and scary at the same time.
Thank you! I don't know of anything more compelling in our history, than the exploration of space.
you gotta give props to these guys. I get homesick when I'm at work only 10 mins away from home. Imagine how they feel out of earth !!

artman40 they aren't able to open.
they drown, it is filmed under water at seaworld
well if it was really filmed at seaworld then where are all the tortured whales? checkmate heretic.
knightofficer the whales were sent to space

imagine just chilling in the cupula and a extraterrestrial neighbor passes right in front of you
Awesome video and tour of the space station from the vantage of the cupola. Thanks!
Nice quick tour on ISS. I think this is my favourite place on ISS. Best view to see the Earth.
Everything we are, everything we will ever be, everything happening right now is inside that, surrounded by darkness.
I would love to be there and have a view of the Earth like that, I mean, Wow! Could anything other than that view right there be more spectacular
definetly it is one of the BEST videos i've ever seen!
This is amazing, thank you for sharing.
Resupply missions. There's one going up this year I think, along with a VASIMR propulsion system prototype. Not sure if they cancelled VASIMR though.
Bro if I was out there. Would poop my pants because it's just black all around and earth like scary
FANTASTIC video!
What a view!
Highest seat in the World?
I at first tought hes Back On earth but when he pulled the camera a saw that tlit was Earth from space Thanks for showing it to me I Loved to be up there
Cupola is SOooooo awesome! Worth all the extra weight, extra fuel and time /effort to get it up there
Such a beautiful view of our Earth and yet we take what we have for-granted.
Fantastic! We all really appreciate these incredible videos :)

its the international station, countries just OWN certain sections of it, everyone is allowed in every part pretty much

It would be awesome to just fly up there for a week and float around and look at Earth! I wonder how many things (space junk) hit the station per day?
So surreal to watch this :), absolutely amazing, why are we not funding this more. Love this video.
amazing. such a shame that we waste so much money on military and so little on space travel.
Let's copulate in the cuppula
Lol
If I was up there my self then could i see stars without the cam ? or is the light from earth still to much
What a view. Nice module.
Thanks for tour.

U can't see the light of the star if you are in the Lighted side of earth..

I have a question for the space station scientists..how is oxygen produced in the space station?..or is it brought to the station from Earth?
@Droohie i just wanna know where is their location above, below or beside. I know theres no up or down in space.
I will also love to go to space,if I got a chance and want to see&feel the space much closer.
@derekxnl I didn't forget. The orientation of the solar terminator on earth and the sun give a pretty accurate reference to direction.

Wonder what that sound is in the background. Sounds like a mechanical sound. Maybe an air pump?
It looks stuffy in there, why don't you open a window

Timothy Marland there is no up and down in space because there is only Micro-Gravity.
@CanadaJoshua27 he didn't mention "progress" as american. Nor did he mention the european columbus lab.
