Joe didn’t do shit. Couldn’t fix the car, complains about coffee. Up your game Joe!
LMAO!
Joe didn’t have time to make the coffee. I suspect he was busy making the doughnuts.
@jett woodward 😂😂😂😂😂
@jett woodward Ha!
Hey, his wife isn't actually a genius either - "What's mountain grown?"
I was a prop man on several of these commercials. I made the coffee. Ms Christine was the wife of Fritz Feld ( the Psychiatrist in 'Bringing Up Baby' who would sometimes visit our set.
She also played Katherine Hepburn's bigoted colleague in 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner', right?
Yeah. What a negative statement to his wife.
What a wast of my time,
Can you give it back ??
Yeah. And I played as Superman
Wasn't she in bonanza
I remember those Folgers commercials with Mrs Olson love
Ms. Olsen reminds me of my grandma growing up. Those were the good days.
Just came here looking for Mrs. Olsen after watching Movies With Mark. I remember a lot of these commercials, but not this one. I was surprised to see Stephen Collins, this must have been back before he was more well-known.
@graytonw5238. I recognized him but didn't know his name.
Ahh...the days of the 60 second commercial. :)
And not 27 of them in a row before going back to the program.
@@BeingRomans829ed Right. That's why I DVR almost everything and skip the commercials. Either that, or view streaming or DVD collections. Can't stand commercials today.
Yea when did commercials today become so long? And so loud and obnoxious.
you said it! no non stop drugs yelling at you--everything sucks now!
I drink Folger's coffee to this day. I love it sometimes I go to Chock Full O Nuts but Folgers is just the cats meow when it comes to coffee.
Star Trek connection! The actor playing the husband "Joe" is Stephen Collins. He played the character Commander Will Decker in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Just tuned in to the last few minutes of Wagon Train and there was "Mrs. Olsen". So of course had to come and find some memories. ❤
We had a coffee maker just like that one - made great coffee - when you brewed Folgers.
To get the right coffee, you have to start with
The right coffee
Just watched Virginia Christine on Wagon Train. Always a great actress!
Thanks for posting & sharing.
You're welcome. =)
Ms. Christine was a stellar part time cast member, playing various roles on radio show..Gunsmoke..Her voice on the show was iconic..
iamrichrocker old guy
@@recumbenttriker6218 smart ass punk...
Watching this while drinking coffee in the morning.
What's V'Ger doing in my coffee?
😂🏆
I remember the Folgers in the 70s I used to like those Folgers
It is still my favorite coffee.
the reason it is the best is because it is mountain grown. I feel bad for Mrs Olsen, no car and now they took her coffee too. What a pickle
Technically, they didn't "take her coffee". She offered it. ;)
*dude* in this commercial also played the lou gerhig story i believe.
Stephen Collins :(
Yep
@@gynandroidhead He wants to make coffee and invite the neighborhood girls over to watch TV.
Hey, that’s homey from Star Trek:the Movie and 7th Heaven (Stephen Collins)
Cora vs mrs. Olson
I didn’t realize till now that Mrs Olsen had an accent well I was real young when that commercial came out
Smooth Bro She didn’t have an accent. The two Americans have the accents.
Smooth Bro Actually I just Googled her. Mrs. Olsen was born in Iowa and died in Los Angeles. That was a 100% Mountain Grown Bullshit accent.
Do your damn research! Christine was born Virginia Christine Ricketts in Stanton in Montgomery County in southwestern Iowa. She was of Swedish descent.
Her accent was authentic! Swedes inhabited Iowa, you know
I'm 100% Swedish. My Grandpa helped create this campaign in the 60's. Being Swedish, they were very proud that they used a Swedish accent and an actress with a Swedish family lineage.
@@gjnelsondotcom Good one!! 😆!!
Stephen Collins
It's mount and groan!!!!
Mount and groan :D
Ass and hole u
Lol
Ideats (sic)
By the way, that couple is divorced now.
With the guy who thought he was the next Robert Wagner!
I can hear the neighbor's dog barking in the first few seconds of this commercial
The 70s were strange
Different coffees taste different...well duh lol 😆
Ideat (sic)
Let the thing make his own darned Java.
Grow up
Can anyone identify the make & model of Mrs Olsen’s car or the car parked in the driveway?
At 0:10 - well, no sex for that guy for a year. I'm surprised she didn't slap him silly
What do you mean no sex? She has idea where he is getting it from.
"That guy." Lol. He's a well-known actor. Star Trek: The Motion Picture and he was also in the TV series, "Tales of the Gold Monkey."
Let him get it from Mrs. Olsen since her coffee is so much better!
Ideat (sic)
back when commercials were actually long...today they're 15 seconds of repetitive pounding their shhht product into your 🧠
Lol, I'm amazed so many of the people in the comments don't recognize who that man is.
Stephen Collins.
I so recongnized him but couldn't place it!!!!
Stephen Collins...first saw him in Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979. Sorry ladies, if you are 15 or older, he isn't interested. No joke.
Who is the actress playing the wife?
Not sure, wish I knew.
@@BionicDisco I'm not 100 percent sure, but it could be Anne Archer.
@@fossefan Not a bad guess at all. You may be right. =)
She can’t make good coffee, but Mrs. Olson has a can of Folgers to save the day and make a good coffee. Seriously! How many brands did the average American household in 1973 use other than Folgers? Maxwell House? Maryland Club? Chock Full of Nuts and Bolts? Sanka if you didn’t want caffeine? Gourmet coffee and shops selling it was rare then!
And Stephen Collins himself. You found out he had a dark side about 5 years ago!
There was also 8 O'clock, and I heard A&P had their own brand which was said to be really good.. But, all those flavors and other fancy things were pretty much non existing
Chock Full of Nuts and Bolts was the Wacky Packages!
@@toronado455 oh wow, I thought I was going the only one that remembered that well enough. I loved those and Crazy Labels!
I still think it's a little strange to DRIVE to a coffee place to pay $3 to $5 for a coffee.
Also Hills Bros
"What's mountain grown?"
Her answer "it's the richest coffee there is"
Ask a stupid question...
Yea that wasn’t really a good question and didn’t really
Answer it haha.
Make a "stupid" post...
“What’s mountain grown”
It’s grown on a mountain lady.
The jerk that hated her coffee is Stephen Collins.. Accused of having an affair with an underage girl..He was kicked off his TV show, and I believe served time, and eventually blacklisted...
Yep, he admitted to abusing underaged girls in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. For younger Star Trek fans, he was in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) and played Captain/Commander Decker of the USS Enterprise before the return of Admiral/Captain Kirk. 🤔
🎶 I love coffee, sweet and hot.
Oops, Mrs. Olsen I'm a coffee pot🎶

2021: "Mrs. Olsen"
"Mr. Olsen."
"Oh I'm sorry. I thought...."
"You thought wrong. My car broke down in front of your house. And my phone died."
"And?"
"Maybe you could make me some coffee. I need it to swallow my medication."
"Yeah, sure. I'll run to Starbucks."
"Can't your husband make it?"
"My boyfriend! No. He has to drive Uber today and later on he's a delivery driver for Door Dash and your car is blocking the driveway of our rental house."
"Oh I'm sorry. I forgot my mask too."
"Mask? We don't believe in THAT virus."
"Ok. Don't get angry. I already had THAT virus."
"Just move your crappy car off our street and let my boyfriend get to work and don't get all political about this."
Ideat (sic)
Lol
Mrs Olson was stacked.
Ideat (sic)
So you need to make your coffee better to make your boyfriend like you? Weird.
They were selling the coffee, not the relation of the couple. They were saying Folgers were better than the others. It was to promote the coffee.
It wasn't a soap opera.
Judging by your photo, you weren’t alive during the era when this commercial was made so it may be hard for you to understand. First of all the manufacturer is undoubtedly portraying them as a married couple since they are in a home together and secondly, it was very commonplace for women in that time to be Homemakers and generally accepted that preparation of meals, coffee etc that would make the husband happy after working was an important part of homemaking. I grew up during that era and my mom and the moms of friends were always at home.
@@MrScottie68 I grew up in the same era, it was only much later as an adult that I was able to discern the patronizing attitudes that were imbued in print ads and television commercials. As someone said earlier in the thread, Jim can't fix the car, but nothing is said about his inability to do so.
As was/is yer post...
Bustelo was better.
