If radiant virtue was still in the game Varus would be 54% winrate right next to kog maw. The issue is dmg being way too high, so the good AD carries are the ones who can build tanky or have insane range.

The problem was his stacks and true damage but the recent changes do make him more item oriented then stacks and that just made him even more insufferable let alone his voice lines being comparable to fizz.

People don't ban new champs because they don't know how to play against them. They ban them because their teammates don't know how to play them, yet still pick them
The other main issue which I never see anyone notice is that the ADC role only ever has a handful of good champs that fit the role, every other role has 10+ Meta champs at a time while ADC rarely even has 5, so pick rates for ADCs tend to be super inflated, just look at the top 10 most played champs at any time and at least 6 or 7 of them, and often even more, are ADCs
ADC mains literally cried last time we made something that isnt a adc meta remember vlad adc and how Rekkles and other adcs cried and RIOT quickly nerfed it. Meanwhile Jg has every class in the game and we had Ezreal Jg... So tldr ADC mains are the reason why the ADC line up is so boring.

Ranged AD's just scale off three multiplicative stats that only really work on autoattacks, causing them all to basically play the exact same way and have idiotic scaling that makes them suck midgame while being wildly overpowered lategame. They'll never do that but the smolder q problem can easaly be fixed by them just removing the stacks and tiying it to lvs like kayle. lv 6 its aoe lv 11 splash zone lv 16 execute (based off ad not stacks). If they make those changes theyll just need to fine tune some numbers and smolder will be in a ok spot as a champion but it'll never happen cuz riot is alergic to admiting mistakes
Great idea - make a champion that is intended to be played in a duo lane level reliant. Top laners surely will be happy if Smolder players go there to not be 2-3 levels behind.
In my opinion riot does not know how to make a good adc anymore. The last "normal" adc we got was Aphelios, the hardest adc there is (in my opinion). Then we got Zeri (she is close to an adc but still), Nilah and Smolder. I'm still waiting for a normal adc bcs there are no champions on this role. Everyone plays the same thing over and over.
They should take all the annoying parts of his kit out (like the execute on Q) and make it so for his ult, he temporarily switches places with his mom who has all the passive upgrades instead of him. Like a ranged Shyvana ult. Give people the dragon they wanted and balance it by tying it to the duration of an ultimate. They could make his mom more of an auto attacker too while keeping Smolder himself as more of a siege caster.

The only similarity is the concept of a transformation ultimate, which is by no means a signature to Shyvana as there are plenty of transformation champions in the game already. Moreover, the transformation would be nothing like Shyvana's since it would just be upgraded Smolder. And like it or not, Smolder is already thematically similar to Shyvana. You may as well just accept that instead of rejecting a way to make the champion better because it's "too similar" to something else. I'd rather him be similar to Shyvana than similar to Asol like he currently is.

@@tonysmith9905 Smolder's Q hitbox becomes longer than the primary abilities of the champions you mentioned actually, making it easily cover an entire minion wave as well as any champions behind it just by hitting one of the melee minions in the front; not to mention Rapid Firecannon, one of his statistically best and most popular items, increases its cast range further. As for his W, it's just longer range to begin with. If you think Smolder's range is low, you must be really bad at bouncing his upgraded Q off closer targets to hit further-away ones. Think of it like Miss Fortune's Q except aoe and significantly harder for people to dodge. And aside from that, long attack range is not the sole definition of a sieger. Waveclear is just as important to this role so that you can destroy enemy minion waves and build up your own minions, and there's almost nothing in the game that has better waveclear than Smolder once he's upgraded.
Just make his E thingies scale with attack speed, and give him some sort of attack effect, for example his w marks people with dragon snot and his attacks deal more damage to them and done. He'd be building attack speed and be played like an ADC
I would maybe remove his execute or at least add a condition to his passive that he can cast one ability per (1-3) autoattacks, which is stackable and decaying similar to lethal tempo, this would give a huge incentive to weave in autos, either stack it at the start of the fight or in between abilities, forcing him to go melee range more often and therefore it would be more risky to fight and also farm in lane when he is low life or vulnerable
not only does his execute farm all the kills, he WILL win by endgame even if you stop him because of the scaling % max health true damage. 200 years incarnate
The only thing that qualifies him as an ADC is that most of his damage output is physical damage. In my head he’s like a better/new version of Corki who at the time is predominantly in the mid lane.
Easy to pick up, infinite scaling, can be played as on hit against low range enemies, can farm with spells like Ezreal. You play a different style almost every game. Sometimes you are just fed and enjoy the item lead and if you were to lose lane, you try to survive till late. I haven't played the champ but it has so many options, ofc many people want to play him.
Fun fact: it took Smolder less than a third of Kai'sa's amount of proleagues games to reach 24 Pentakills Smolder's 24th Penta - 502nd game Kai'sa's 24th Penta - 1,597th game Zeri's 24th Penta - 1,889th game And that stat is no longer accurate since he has gotten 3 since March 9. as a ingage support main Specifically Rakan Smolder took the "I hate to play against this champ" to another level to the point I ban him in every game I play as a support (even tho there are other champions that counters Rakan better) and when I play other roles and see him on the team or enemy I always go for him and make sure he doesn't have fun, I don't care about winning anymore I just want every smolder user have 0/20/0 kda
How about the fact that he is a Burst damage ADC that at a random point in the game gives him Elder Dragon? like they just gotta remove that and make it a Flat Magic damage amount that scales really well with his stacks
If I were to rework smolder, i'd remove his Q and W, transferring it to its passive (%proc chance), forcing the player to build atk spd and crit, more hits means more chances of achoo and spray, stacks remain as well. there's also a new stamina bar for the new kit new W is sort of like a dragon aura, it automatically activates once a melee enemy attacks smolder up close, everyone near smolder would be feared in an aoe on top of being burned, the animation would be smolder getting jump scared but instead of having that cute fearful look, he looks primal like a cat when scared new Q is a spammable dash but it can hit walls, causing smolder to bump, thus you can't extend the cursor past the wall, too much dashing can also cause smolder to be immobile for seconds (fatigue), upon recovering on the other hand, next dash is an enhanced one, instantly zooming kind of like a slow kaisa ult on a kinda great distance, maybe like bot late turret to near bush in bot kind of distance q + e would result in smolder dashing past walls, enemies dashed through are also stunned, using E during Q can cause more fatigue R remains the same but it has a new mechanic, using R when smolder is near death and fatigued, can let you summon his mom kind of like old mord ult plus old pantheon entrance around smolder, fire breath crash then literally a majestic blazing dragon rampaging in the battlefield, the summon only lasts for 5 attacks mom attack pattern: -pressing 1st R when special condition near death and fatigued causes fire breath crash aoe slow (smolder heals to fire by 20% health, enemies lose 20% health) 2nd R-tail whip sweep push(no damage but getting swept and hitting enemy ally can deal damage) 3rd R-dash to claw strike nearest single enemy champion causing bleed 4th R-roar large cone fear in the direction of smolder 5th R- flap wings(mom leaving) to inflict gusts of damage around the area
I recently started banning smolder as jungler because i cant stand playing against him, cant kill him early, cant oneshot him late, cant be tanky against him late.
the low initial ban rate also comes from the entire community thinking that while his late game is insane, he was a really weak champion, on release. (mostly bc ppl were building crit items instead of literally anything else)
I love Smolder-adc (and Hwei-sup). They perfectly fit what I want to feel in this game. I dont get that from other ADCs, except maybe Senna, who I play adc/sup. I love the fact that Smolders q can change its visuals... same for Hwei. I wish more champions would do that, like Alphelios.
I kinda understand the hate, but I love playing him for a simple reason: He's not as dependand on the support and that is a BLESSING in low elo.the amount of supports I had where I still could go even in lane with smolder where I would have been hopelessly behind on almost any other marksman is astounding.
As someone who plays smolder a lot, i can guarantee hes very good. Not only considerably strong, but fun to play. It will probably be another lux to sell skins.

I just found out this character exists, I did see the thumbnail with him in it for Necrit's past video, but I didn't think it was a new character release. XD But with yordles and Yumi in the game I don't see him that uncanny.
It's funny that sometimes Riot Games releases a character that is terribly strong and popular, like Briar or Smolder, and other times they release a character that is terribly weak and forgotten after a week, like Hwei or Nillah.

I said this in reply to a chat but I'll say again in my own thread. The reason why Smolder is so op in my opinion is that he is a stacking champion that cant be stopped from stacking. You fight him? He stacks. You dont fight him? He farms and stacks. If you want to shut him down from stacking you need to basically one shot him and keep him in fountain.
Though I agree with most points being made, as someone who works with statistics I do have to point out that the scale of the graphics should have definitely weighted more during the analysis. Smolder is definitely strong, but it ALSO is unfair to compare a graph that contains information of a single month against one with half a year worth of matches. Of course they're not gonna look similar. Confirmation bias everyone! Keep an eye out

I was playing Kayn Yesterday. The Smolder decided to go essence reaver into full tank. I lost the game with highest damage. While smolder did second highest damage whole game while tanking every time i tried to fight him and no i was not even close to killing him. I did not even do dmg.
I foolishly decided to give solo queue another chance. Got assigned support and my "adc" was Smolder. He spent the game complaining about the team not giving him stack his passive and blaming the jungler for no ganking bot. That was my first impression of Smolder, a crybaby throwing tantrums at people and not owning up to his mistakes - fitting, given the champion. So yeah, solo queue is still not worth playing, and now I hate Smolder to boot :D

"players started to *figure out* Smolder". not just that, players started to realize what Smolder *was;* a ADC hyper carry that becomes more likely to win the longer the game goes on/the better the ADC farms. on top of that, his E breaks the golden rule of ADCs: Immobility, allowing him to jump walls without flash and even in the worst case making opponents waste theirs. in Kayle's rework, a "hyper carry that becomes more likely to win the longer the game" was the entire point of her. but she is restricted by *level* instead of a stack mechanic, a difference that has kept her back from being a viable bot laner even in the *current* meta. and its all because of that one difference: Stacks from farming. turns out, making an ADC hyper carry with the limitation of "he is weak early but gets stronger as he farms" make Smolder one of the most impactful ADCs currently, because that *should be* how *all* ADCs work but currently they don't. Smolder is powerful because he was accidentally created to play into how ADCs *should work,* but not how *they currently do.*
tristana,caitlyn,ezreal,zeri etc etc can all go over walls easily.. and why can't adc's work different, some good early, others midgame and some lategame?
Not all adcs should be late game monsters. We have some early game and mid game monsters too, like Draven and Lucian. Putting them all into late game scalers is totally boring. Champs should be different from one another in a wide variety of things: role, kit, itemization, and actual in-game goals. There is no rule that says adcs need to be immobile. Lots of adcs have mobility, many with dashes or even teleports. Even movement speed buffs aren't entirely useless as mobility, seen plenty of Dravens and Jhins escape bad situations because they're moving at mach 5. Smolder is powerful because you let him reach his in-game goal. If you're the opposing bot lane your mission is to stomp him into the ground and abuse his weak early game, then proceed to shove your lead down the enemy team's throats and win before one of their win conditions comes online. No, you're not bad if you can't accomplish this. There is no "accident" with Smolder. He is not some magical formula that they happened upon. Every one knew his late game would be strong if he's allowed to get there. That's his entire point. That is NOT the point of adc as a whole.
It's honestly mostly the E. It gives too much mobility. Smolder just stands too far away in lane and if anyone tries anything he is already safely under tower, dodgin any skill shots with the ms boost.
If you want another crazy stat, people looked at how quickly Smolder got up to the amount of Pentakills he has in pro games which was around 24 at the current moment (possibly more). To compare how fast he got those Pentakills, it took Zeri triple the amount of time to get 20-ish or so Pentakills than Smolder.
I mean, if you look at his kit it should be very obvious he'll be a Penta machine. He WILL reach 225 (it's competitive so it's slower), the team actually play around their ADC (allows him to get damage out in fights, and he literally executes from ally damage getting enemies below the threshold! If he has dealt damage within 3 seconds from a massive AoE spammable ability that deals % Max True Damage from a burn.
to be fair. some champions are better at pentakills than others. Shadow assassin kayn for example is dog shit after 2 targets. malzahaar is poop after 1 target. no one is going to say that katarina is stronger than yone just because she gets more penta's than him on average.
When I heard traditional adc, I thought smolder would have a kit like Caitlyn or Ashe, where your entire gimmick is your auto passive and your abilities only aim to help enhance your ability to auto attack people. No one asked for a ranged caster that chunks your health and executes you for looking at him funny

@@tonysmith9905 Smolder's Q hitbox becomes longer than the primary abilities of the champions you mentioned actually, making it easily cover an entire minion wave as well as any champions behind it just by hitting one of the melee minions in the front; not to mention Rapid Firecannon, one of his statistically best and most popular items, increases its cast range further. As for his W, it's just longer range to begin with. If you think Smolder's range is low, you must be really bad at bouncing his upgraded Q off closer targets to hit further-away ones. Think of it like Miss Fortune's Q except aoe and significantly harder for people to dodge.
And aside from that, long attack range is not the sole definition of a sieger. Waveclear is just as important to this role so that you can destroy enemy minion waves and build up your own minions, and there's almost nothing in the game that has better waveclear than Smolder once he's upgraded.
He even sucks to have on your team, cause you're never getting a kill near him once he gets the execute PASSIVE.
Just make his E thingies scale with attack speed, and give him some sort of attack effect, for example his w marks people with dragon snot and his attacks deal more damage to them and done. He'd be building attack speed and be played like an ADC
Imagine Nasus can generate stack when hit champion or land his E and his Q can be upgraded to cone atk

I would maybe remove his execute or at least add a condition to his passive that he can cast one ability per (1-3) autoattacks, which is stackable and decaying similar to lethal tempo, this would give a huge incentive to weave in autos, either stack it at the start of the fight or in between abilities, forcing him to go melee range more often and therefore it would be more risky to fight and also farm in lane when he is low life or vulnerable
not only does his execute farm all the kills, he WILL win by endgame even if you stop him because of the scaling % max health true damage. 200 years incarnate

The only thing that qualifies him as an ADC is that most of his damage output is physical damage. In my head he’s like a better/new version of Corki who at the time is predominantly in the mid lane.
Easy to pick up, infinite scaling, can be played as on hit against low range enemies, can farm with spells like Ezreal. You play a different style almost every game. Sometimes you are just fed and enjoy the item lead and if you were to lose lane, you try to survive till late. I haven't played the champ but it has so many options, ofc many people want to play him.
Because the only way to make an adc good is making it broken because normally tanks with full tank items do more damage...

as a ingage support main Specifically Rakan Smolder took the "I hate to play against this champ" to another level to the point I ban him in every game I play as a support (even tho there are other champions that counters Rakan better) and when I play other roles and see him on the team or enemy I always go for him and make sure he doesn't have fun, I don't care about winning anymore I just want every smolder user have 0/20/0 kda

If I were to rework smolder, i'd remove his Q and W, transferring it to its passive (%proc chance), forcing the player to build atk spd and crit, more hits means more chances of achoo and spray, stacks remain as well. there's also a new stamina bar for the new kit
new W is sort of like a dragon aura, it automatically activates once a melee enemy attacks smolder up close, everyone near smolder would be feared in an aoe on top of being burned, the animation would be smolder getting jump scared but instead of having that cute fearful look, he looks primal like a cat when scared
new Q is a spammable dash but it can hit walls, causing smolder to bump, thus you can't extend the cursor past the wall, too much dashing can also cause smolder to be immobile for seconds (fatigue), upon recovering on the other hand, next dash is an enhanced one, instantly zooming kind of like a slow kaisa ult on a kinda great distance, maybe like bot late turret to near bush in bot kind of distance
q + e would result in smolder dashing past walls, enemies dashed through are also stunned, using E during Q can cause more fatigue
R remains the same but it has a new mechanic, using R when smolder is near death and fatigued, can let you summon his mom kind of like old mord ult plus old pantheon entrance around smolder, fire breath crash then literally a majestic blazing dragon rampaging in the battlefield, the summon only lasts for 5 attacks
mom attack pattern:
-pressing 1st R when special condition near death and fatigued causes fire breath crash aoe slow (smolder heals to fire by 20% health, enemies lose 20% health)
2nd R-tail whip sweep push(no damage but getting swept and hitting enemy ally can deal damage)
3rd R-dash to claw strike nearest single enemy champion causing bleed
4th R-roar large cone fear in the direction of smolder
5th R- flap wings(mom leaving) to inflict gusts of damage around the area

I recently started banning smolder as jungler because i cant stand playing against him, cant kill him early, cant oneshot him late, cant be tanky against him late.
the low initial ban rate also comes from the entire community thinking that while his late game is insane, he was a really weak champion, on release. (mostly bc ppl were building crit items instead of literally anything else)

I love Smolder-adc (and Hwei-sup). They perfectly fit what I want to feel in this game. I dont get that from other ADCs, except maybe Senna, who I play adc/sup. I love the fact that Smolders q can change its visuals... same for Hwei. I wish more champions would do that, like Alphelios.
I kinda understand the hate, but I love playing him for a simple reason: He's not as dependand on the support and that is a BLESSING in low elo.the amount of supports I had where I still could go even in lane with smolder where I would have been hopelessly behind on almost any other marksman is astounding.

I just found out this character exists, I did see the thumbnail with him in it for Necrit's past video, but I didn't think it was a new character release. XD
But with yordles and Yumi in the game I don't see him that uncanny.
It's funny that sometimes Riot Games releases a character that is terribly strong and popular, like Briar or Smolder, and other times they release a character that is terribly weak and forgotten after a week, like Hwei or Nillah.
Hwei isnt weak and Nilah is just Samira with counterstrike but ugly.
How to fix smolder :
Step 1: Remove Smolder from the game
Step 2: Gives his stacking passive to Shyvana
Step 3: Enjoy a real (-half-) dragon

I was watching some pro games and this team lost EVERY game EXCEPT for the one they had a Smolder. They dominated that game.

I said this in reply to a chat but I'll say again in my own thread. The reason why Smolder is so op in my opinion is that he is a stacking champion that cant be stopped from stacking. You fight him? He stacks. You dont fight him? He farms and stacks. If you want to shut him down from stacking you need to basically one shot him and keep him in fountain.

Though I agree with most points being made, as someone who works with statistics I do have to point out that the scale of the graphics should have definitely weighted more during the analysis.

I was playing Kayn Yesterday.
The Smolder decided to go essence reaver into full tank.
I lost the game with highest damage.
While smolder did second highest damage whole game while tanking every time i tried to fight him and no i was not even close to killing him.
I did not even do dmg.
I foolishly decided to give solo queue another chance. Got assigned support and my "adc" was Smolder. He spent the game complaining about the team not giving him stack his passive and blaming the jungler for no ganking bot. That was my first impression of Smolder, a crybaby throwing tantrums at people and not owning up to his mistakes - fitting, given the champion.
So yeah, solo queue is still not worth playing, and now I hate Smolder to boot :D

"players started to *figure out* Smolder". not just that, players started to realize what Smolder *was;* a ADC hyper carry that becomes more likely to win the longer the game goes on/the better the ADC farms.
on top of that, his E breaks the golden rule of ADCs: Immobility, allowing him to jump walls without flash and even in the worst case making opponents waste theirs.
in Kayle's rework, a "hyper carry that becomes more likely to win the longer the game" was the entire point of her. but she is restricted by *level* instead of a stack mechanic, a difference that has kept her back from being a viable bot laner even in the *current* meta. and its all because of that one difference: Stacks from farming.
turns out, making an ADC hyper carry with the limitation of "he is weak early but gets stronger as he farms" make Smolder one of the most impactful ADCs currently, because that *should be* how *all* ADCs work but currently they don't.
Smolder is powerful because he was accidentally created to play into how ADCs *should work,* but not how *they currently do.*
tristana,caitlyn,ezreal,zeri etc etc can all go over walls easily.. and why can't adc's work different, some good early, others midgame and some lategame?
Funny you say this because Smolder pre "adjustments" was best mid game, not late game. His strongest point was right when he hit his 3rd item.
Also if you look at the graph for ban rate it started two weeks before the play rate since riot allowed players to ban smolder before his release date
Not all adcs should be late game monsters. We have some early game and mid game monsters too, like Draven and Lucian. Putting them all into late game scalers is totally boring. Champs should be different from one another in a wide variety of things: role, kit, itemization, and actual in-game goals.
There is no rule that says adcs need to be immobile. Lots of adcs have mobility, many with dashes or even teleports. Even movement speed buffs aren't entirely useless as mobility, seen plenty of Dravens and Jhins escape bad situations because they're moving at mach 5.
Smolder is powerful because you let him reach his in-game goal. If you're the opposing bot lane your mission is to stomp him into the ground and abuse his weak early game, then proceed to shove your lead down the enemy team's throats and win before one of their win conditions comes online. No, you're not bad if you can't accomplish this.
There is no "accident" with Smolder. He is not some magical formula that they happened upon. Every one knew his late game would be strong if he's allowed to get there. That's his entire point. That is NOT the point of adc as a whole.
It's honestly mostly the E. It gives too much mobility. Smolder just stands too far away in lane and if anyone tries anything he is already safely under tower, dodgin any skill shots with the ms boost.
We have never seen a cool dragon that can speak....

If you want another crazy stat, people looked at how quickly Smolder got up to the amount of Pentakills he has in pro games which was around 24 at the current moment (possibly more). To compare how fast he got those Pentakills, it took Zeri triple the amount of time to get 20-ish or so Pentakills than Smolder.
Kaisa, being the second fastest and the dominating adc in proplay for like 2 years, got that amount in like a few hundred games. Let that sink in rq.
I mean, if you look at his kit it should be very obvious he'll be a Penta machine. He WILL reach 225 (it's competitive so it's slower), the team actually play around their ADC (allows him to get damage out in fights, and he literally executes from ally damage getting enemies below the threshold! If he has dealt damage within 3 seconds from a massive AoE spammable ability that deals % Max True Damage from a burn.
to be fair. some champions are better at pentakills than others. Shadow assassin kayn for example is dog shit after 2 targets. malzahaar is poop after 1 target. no one is going to say that katarina is stronger than yone just because she gets more penta's than him on average.
I mean for Smolder, a pentakill is any fight in which his team kills all five enemies, like it or not, that's just kinda how he's designed

When I heard traditional adc, I thought smolder would have a kit like Caitlyn or Ashe, where your entire gimmick is your auto passive and your abilities only aim to help enhance your ability to auto attack people.
