    The lyrics for this song were written by the bassist John Myung. Btw, every album of Dream Theater is like an opera and it's absolutely worth it to listen to them from first to last song. 🤘🏻

    This is best heard after ‘waiting for sleep’- the previous track, as there are musical themes revisited! The melody from 9:34

    The theme that seems to come out of no where around 8:10 into the song is actually a reference to the song Wait for Sleep which is just before this one on the album. (I always play both together 🤣)

      @@MusicWithToddLedbetter You said in your Breaking All Illusions video that you liked the soulful beginning to the guitar solo, so I have to agree with the commenter above that you should really give Lines in the Sand a whirl. It has my all time favourite solo by John Petrucci and it's very soulful. Hell's Kitchen is sort of an instrumental appetiser to that song.

    Really enjoying your reaction videos! It's so cool getting to see folks get into what's been my favorite band for a long time!
    I have a suggestion that I think you would love!
    You should react to the song "Key to the Imagination" from the album "Liquid Tension Experiment 3"
    It's very recent, and is a supergroup featuring Mike Portnoy on drums, John Petrucci on guitar, Jordan Rudess on keyboards, and Tony Levin on stick bass.
    It was a big deal because it was one of the first times Portnoy worked with anyone from his original band members since they split.
    A side note, I love all of Dream Theater's stuff and both drummers are top 5 drummers of all time in my opinion.
    Anyway, this Imagination song is an instrumental, and its quite the musical journey!

      Right. I mean pull me under can’t compete with this song by any means, but it is the most famous song out there. I think people can’t comprehend and digest easily songs like learning to live. Which could be reason why this song is underrated.

    Hello Todd, greeting from the Netherlands. I really enjoyed your reaction. I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Have you ever listened to Nightwish? They are a symphonic metal band from Finland and they’re top notch in this genre. Their singer is the Dutch Floor Jansen. She has one of the best female voices in metal today. None of the Nightwish songs are alike. There are epic and melodic songs, like the one I’m recommending now, but they can also go really heavy on you and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy. Their music is exceptionally well composed. Their musicality is outstanding and so is their lyrical content. Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give the song ‘Ghost Love Score’ a try. It was recorded at Wacken 2013, in front of 82 000 people. You might be surprised. ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.html

    The drummer here is Mike Portnoy.
    By the way, he is still very dissatisfied with the sound of the drums on this album, and specifically with the fact that the producer with whom the band had to work at the request of the label, replaced the sound of his snare drum with a sample everywhere on the album. I can't disagree with Mike here - the sound is really annoying, although for that time it was probably considered as very cool.

    • @StrateleStudios
      @StrateleStudios 2 роки тому +1

      That snare killed me when this came out! It was the only thing I disliked about the recording. I honestly thought it was programmed drums because of that.

    • @MusicWithToddLedbetter

      I've heard worse, but it does sound like leftovers from the 80's. Cold leftovers, a week old, and they haven't been covered properly. Definitely expired.

    • @CompleteProducer84
      @CompleteProducer84 2 роки тому +2

      Another fun fact - the producer who changed the snare also used the same exact snare sample on another band's album. Their name escapes me but it was a hair metal band. I checked out their music to confirm, and indeed it was the same sample

    • @StrateleStudios
