    My college's (Barstow Community College) observatory has this exact telescope on a fixed, custom-built equatorial mount.Wish I could afford it. It's a beast of a telescope. Although not as big as Lowell Observatory's 42-inch Hall telescope. Clearest view of Jupiter I have EVER seen. Makes the 16" Meade feel like a toy.

    Sold this basic scope at dealer cost $14,995 + $100 - charged a few hundred for freight, Meade dropped shipped to our clients with no charge.
    The company invoiced a 2% discount for 30 day payment. Long retired, remaining, new (vintage) inventory listed online at astroptx. One of
    these resides at our high school in New Milford Connecticut. Now 78, considering, in a few years, the gifting of stock to 501-C3 organizations.

    7/2024: Good Day from the Future: The problem with the LX200 and I assume all the LX series is that you still must manually/automatically in combination, align the telescope on 2 stars that the database will offer you. Where I live now, I don't have much "clear overhead view" of the sky. I did when I lived in Arizona though. So, I can't really get a precise Alignment. What do you do if you want to do Solar Observation? Daytime? How do you "align the telescope? I'm presently on my 2nd 10 inch Meade LX200. This one is a GPS with Enhanced Optical elements. I give up. Spell check won't change the mispells. So live with them. The LX Series of Telescopes, otherwise are superb in every way. My current one is 14 years old and works fine. The micro focus adjustment needed to be replaced. If you want a High End "reasonably-priced" telescope, these are an excellent choice IMO. Thanks & Best Regards

    • @miker1721
      @miker1721 Місяць тому

      Do. A “TWO STAR ALIGNMENT “ and manually pick the two alignment stars that are in clear view of your location. It’s OK if they are within the same quadrant of the sky.

    Thank you for the Demo on Meade LX 600.,
    I would like to know, if, (where) I can buy an Equatorial Wedge, (old pre-used). Found on the Site, but felt it was too expensive.
    I need one for the LX200 Model.
    Thanks once again for the Show..

      You may find pre-used on ebay, Facebook marketplace or if u r lucky then on Amazon too. You can check up with your local astronomy shops they might help you to find one. Also, ask in reddit and various other astro forums...🤗🤗

    I was interested in a 12" LX850 until customer support hung up on me. It seems that getting information about this scope is impossible. I don't think Meade is doing anything to help restore confidence in them. I was hoping they would be at NEAF.

    If this compare to planewave cdk350 which is better?

    • @pmgodfrey
      @pmgodfrey 3 роки тому

      Planewave all day. But that's an entirely different scope. Your best bet would be to buy an older classic LX200 16" or just the older OTA. You can get them for around $6,000. These are best for sticking eye pieces in and observing and astrophotography. The Planewave is for astrophotography only.
      Meade isn't the same company they were in the 80's and 90's. Quality has suffered and any time you have an issue, you have to ship it back, at your expense, which can get really high considering the size and weight of them.

    • @mycarolinaskies
      @mycarolinaskies 2 роки тому

      Depends on your purpose. Both designs have advantages and disadvantages. The CDK350 is only 14" aperture. The L350 is more versatile than the LX600 mount if other optical packages are desired. In a permanent mount situation it would really depend on specific intended use. The 16" series is a long used optical system(in the LX200 F/10 format) in professional and private institutions worldwide.
      I would buy the L350 and the 16" LX600 F/8 for more versatility unless you were using an extremely oversized sensor for data collection.

    • @pmgodfrey
      @pmgodfrey 2 роки тому

      @@mycarolinaskies -- The L350 is a nice mount, but I tend to favor mounts that lock instead of having friction clutches. I had a Losmandy G11 and hated it. I'm probably going to get something like a Paramount or Astro- Physics. I'm more into visual than astrophotography. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    There's a 16 inch with just 4,300$ though so no need to spend a lot of money

    • @mycarolinaskies
      @mycarolinaskies 2 роки тому +1

      For $4,300 you get a telescope that will only last a few years. The base is made of particle board, the encoders are prone to issues over time.
      The 16" SCT is a professional grade telescope built to last much longer, but yes it does come with a very hefty price. I have one of them and bought it used for much less than sticker. But it's a forever telescope that the optics will last longer than I'll probably live. The mount is extremely substantial and if the drive system were to fail there are aftermarket systems if necessary.

    • @twm1452
      @twm1452 5 місяців тому

      @@ummeabdullah4761Well,sort of… The SCT typically has a longer focal length that is more forgiving of high magnification. However, there are certainly refractors and even reflectors with longer focal lengths than this SCT, so it really depends on the scope.
