In searching for a new telephone toy, I came across many iterations of this, the no-name YST-102 "TELEPHONERINGER". It's an electronic telephone ringer, claims to be 95dB, and has a light. Looks kind of like a deck of cards, just something about the styling of it.
It was for a cheap enough price so I decided it was cheap enough for a new toy. The light is nothing more than a small red LED, barely visible. The entire thing weighs only a couple of ounces. Curiously there is also a switch, but the listing didn't make it clear whether that was a high or low volume switch or an on/off switch. It's neither, it's a high tone/low tone switch.
One of the most cheaply made products I've come across in a while, but it actually does work and is fairly decent. Wall mountable as well. It definitely has its place. The light, of course, has nothing on my Radio Shack Realistic Fone Flasher, especially with the xenon strobe attached!
They are pretty loud, though I have a hard time believing 95dB. The camera simply cannot do these justice, and with the cacophony of these 2 and the mechanical bell ringers I showed, the sound on the camera just goes flat.

For the most part. As I had stated in the prescription, the camera cannot do it justice at all.

In regards to the unit with the fading LED. I wonder if whoever the heck made these put a MARGINALLY different value capacitor in circuit with it. Enough to see just that much of a discharge. My grandma had some really weird flashers for her phones in the house. They werent ringers but they just flashed a green light. They may have come from a home improvement store or an As Seen On TV thing. But one of them always had a light that would take just THAT much longer to fade out than the other unit did. They came in a pack of 3.

Either that or the tolerance of the capacitor was way off, you know, good old Chinese components. But yes, a different capacitor could indeed cause that effect.
I'd love to see those flashers you speak of, that's a rarity these days.

@@jaykay18 Y'know, I don't know if she still has those in her possession. I kind of have to wonder if they were just left installed when she moved out of that house. She moved to one of those senior town home things in Florida some years ago. I remember them being "color matched" when a painter decided to (very precisely in all fairness) paint the little bezels and not just remove the flashers from the wall. A strange choice, but it looked really good. I think they may have been overlooked when moving out because of how well they blended in to the walls they were mounted on. I'll try and do some searching online to see if I can find them or anything remotely similar to what they would have looked like. If they still exist in her possession or if my uncle kept them for some reason, that's not a bad idea to make a video about them.

It is lame. You must also consider this is a line-powered device. That current has got to come from somewhere. If this were a much more substantial device, it could plug in and have a Xenon flash tube in it instead.
