I'll be 100ys old N STILL! listen2 Staley- AiC, Mad Season, etc. .. as good as day1.
Layne, Weiland, Chris, CB- eternal voices!
At that level of addiction, being high becomes your normal. It becomes home to you, the only place you're comfortable. I highly doubt he would have been able to pull off that performance without being in the world that inspired it. I can honestly say I shed tears every time I see this. Years later, same emotions still right there...
Very few rock bands today could strip down to acoustic guitars, drums, and a singer and make beautiful music like this. The "unplugged"/stripped down format showed how awesome these bands actually were....
This performance brings heavy tears, every time.
Poor boy was so sick……battle-weary from fighting that demon, but still able to pull off a concert while dopesick and heart broken - I think his fiancée was hospitalized off and on at this point, dead a few months later 😢
Layne was pure soul through and through, vocals make you feel what he feels
So heartbreaking and haunting! He couldn’t get through it!! His fiancé died of a OD and that did him in !!
🥲🥲🥲🥲
The guitarists came out 1st, hopefully to encourage Layne to come to the stage (there was probably some kind of discussion going on backstage, trying to convince Layne to come out and sing) and for several seconds it seemed like maybe he wouldn't. But he did, and performed perfectly even with all the issues he was having (depression, addiction, etc). RIP Layne🙏
From what I've read...Mtv had been hounding AIC to do an Unplugged. They hadn't been around ea other, much less performed in many months cuz of Layne's addiction issues. Rehearsal was terrible. Nobody expected anything but a possible disaster, and Metallica was in the front row w/ their new haircuts (reason for msg on the bass). Layne did need some coaxing and did just enuff smack to get thru the show but not nod out. What ended up happening was pure Majic, and you can see it in the eyes and smiles of Jerry and the other guys. Layne sang his heart out...kind of a goodbye performance...just like Kurt
He had to get good n smacked out beforehand. When the sunglasses came off he was prolly getting off like a rocket
@@aaronanderson6892 you're definitely in the ballpark lol
Is that fact or assumption. Because for example, Kurt came out last during Nirvana's set
@@aaronanderson6892 na he was browned out
Delivering that vocal performance while sitting on a stool barely moving...fkn legend
Jerry Cantrell needs the love!
Layne Staley absolutely brought it life ..
Unbelievable together..
Their harmony is almost unmatched
He also wrote 90% of AIC lyrics as well
Jerry Cantrell was the driving force behind this band.
Layne was an incredible voice.
A true one of a kind .
Imho I equate Jerry and Laynes harmonizing akin to Simon & Garfunkel
That's EXACTLY wassup. I love Layne, one of the best voices I ever heard, but JC was the master creator. He wrote every single thing except Angry Chair. Their harmonies haunt you. I miss this band so much
@@Order-pu5ub
Although Layne did contribute to the lyrics in several songs.. Jerry C was the MAN. Just sad that heroin has taken so much music from all of us.😔
@@chrishemphill4535 Couldn't agree with you more bro. The only music contributed by Layne was Angry Chair. Jerry carried that band on his back since Dirt. The rhythm section was doin their thing and poor Layne was balls deep by then. I miss em every day. I miss that anticipation of a new album. Their harmonies are on par w CS&N or the Mama's n Papa's as far as I'm concerned. The Beach Boys damn it. But so dark and ominously beautiful. Most singers I grew up listening to (in the mainstream) are dead. Either smack or suicide. I hope the next wave gets it. They're due up...every 30+ years. 30s, 60s, 90s...NOW. Nice time for a revolution
This will be the best concert reaction you will do or will ever do. Greatest unplugged concert. AIC are fucking legends. RIP Layne Staley, you are missed so much more than you ever would have realized, :'(
Best Unplugged ever! Layne Staley’s voice was unreal. He was a heroin addict tho so the lyrics can be depressing but their music is amazing…
makes me so happy seeing how much yall enjoy Alice in Chains.. such a great band and inspiration in my life
Our brougher Layne was reclusive towards the end. His body wasn't found for two weeks. Really really tragic 💔
Another Great Reaction guys 🙏
Thank you for reacting to this video. Layne was taken way to soon, only a select few singers could make you feel such pure emotion the way Layne could. Such an incredible talent.
Alice is definitely in my top 5. Also up there is Faith No More. They are often forgotten about. The Real Thing and Angel Dust are both great albums. They also do a great cover of Black Sabbath’s song War Pigs.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Alice is just a different kind of band. Those harmonies are the best.
RIP LAYNE WE LOVE U
Got Me Wrong is a highlight for me
So sad to think of how Layne passed, and how much pain he was in during this. And brought it all together for his fans, for this show.
Layne always said he would stay clean, but the H got him. His voice was so unique and with the guitarist Jerry Cantrell the harmonies were amazing … RIP L… Their big album “Dirt” was hit after hit and it’s all about H
cheers to you both for doing this! this is one of my favorites. The best song were yet to come, "down in a hole", "rooster".
Incredible Grunge band!! ❤️❤️❤️Talented talented!! RIP Layne Staley !! What a incredible voice!! So missed and gone too soon !! Nutshell will make you cry!! This whole concert was sad ! Layne was in wd and went back and did a 8 ball !! 🥲🥲🥲 addiction sucks!! Haunting !!
The pain is so raw!!
Not grudges a ND where once in generation soul band capturing soul of generation
This song is so deep. You really need to listen to the lyrics and read his pain.
Hi from Kentucky! Just wanted to add that they hadn’t played a show together in almost two years and barely practiced. They were so intertwined musically and it shows. Layne had lost tons of weight and knew he looked sick. I read he was somewhat shy and that it took a lot for him to go out on stage that night. Reference Jerry looking back, hoping Layne would come out. And also, on sludge factory when he messes up. You can tell he’s really embarrassed. He came back and KILLED IT tho. RIP Layne and Mike
Man in the box Alice in chains one of the best front man ever and him and Jerry sound perfect together layne n Jerry chris Hendersin og
that is ,a thing‚ with Layne
he seems stoned, ,,emotionless,,
but his emotion is music - it is ,,invisible‚‚ to all but ears
he was ONE with music, therefore, he stands like stone, while the music is the WHOLE of expression
he was the NEXUS of music
(and goddamn - he STILL IS, God bless him and rest his soul)
I think I remember hearing that Jerry took Layne's cat to live with him when he passed away.
That means the cat must have been almost starving for the 2 weeks layne was dead before he was found
It’s nice to see any reaction to Alice in Chains. Thanks for this video! Great reaction guys 🙋🏻♀️👏🏼👍🏼🙌🏼💜🇨🇦
Good stuff, one of the best live shows of all time. Layne an all time great singer and Jerry the guitarist is one of the greatest songwriters ever.
This is exactly what the record companies do to the artists.. they bleed them dry until there's nothing left
I saw AIC on their first visit to LA . They were phenomenal. I had No idea what they would become at the time.
When Mike Inez (bass) came over from Ozzy it really opened up musically
Some of the most talented, creative people suffer for one reason or another and turn to drugs.
The chorus of no words, nice reaction. 👍
Many rockers were on heroin and saw Aerosmith as Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were so out of it that finally the audience started booing. It's an ugly drug. As a nurse I saw many functioning addicts when I worked in Seattle. They don get the pleasure but enough to keep withdrawals from happening. In saw Layné standing across the street and he looked like an angel, with his long. Blonde curly hair and he was tall and beautiful when he first came on scene. ❤️
The origional bass player died of an OD. He was on celebrity rehab.
The sad part is he knew he was addicted to heroine and he couldn’t break it. Even when his fiancé died from heroine before this. Towards the very end of his life, Layne was a complete shut in. He wouldn’t let anyone in his small apartment including his mother. He didn’t want anyone to see him look like that. The few times he did leave he’d go to a local Game Stop to pick up video games. When they did find him after he passed away he weighed something like 96 pounds but he was 6’4”iirc..
He was 6 feet And 80 pounds when he was found tho dead bodies lose like 20 pounds for water lose like he probably was like 6 feet 100 pounds which is still insanely skinny
if you want layne in his prime listen to love hate love live
Love you guys but he is such a sad story and a great singer
My bad I see you have more videos of Layne singing, he truly had one of the best voices I've ever heard in rock, his range was amazing. Thanks for playing his Jams
The other fhitar player was with bim the night befire he died, they got into a huge fight and layne told him if he cslled 911 he would never talk to him again. He revealed that he felt responsible fir laynes death because he didnt call 911. They found him dead of an overdose as well. A few years later
I was listening to Layne and Jerry play in the 4th grade.
You see how he's coming in with his shades on? Yeah he was completely trashed on heroin. It's sad to know that just six years later he'd be found dead of an overdose. He was literally screaming for help in this song and it breaks my heart! Layne was the best vocalist in my lifetime! RIP Layne!
Discovered this gem of y’all’s tonight. Good stuff.
In epic fight for his life against addiction,Layne pulls off a legendary performance. RIP
Asia. Thanks for sharing about your channel and your music. I gotta go check it out.
Love ya both!
🙏❤️🤘🏼👍
Nutshell is the most covered song in music. Listen and react to the cover Mark Lanegan did for the MoPOP tribute. You should probably react to all those songs. Powerful stuff there.
fu**ing awesome you did the whole thing
mad love to you guys .
R.I.P. Layne. There will never be another one like you, the world lost a beautiful soul.
Alice in Chains performance or Nirvana's performance on MTV Unplugged are two milestones in music. Whatever I listen to, my eye is twitching, maybe because there are no such concerts anymore, and there are almost such bands as well.
I had a VHS of this when my son was little. He would ask me to play "The So Far Aways," which is how he referred to AIC because of the lyrics of Brother. I enjoyed your reaction
Layne had an amazing voice.
do you mis him, i mis him so
i got the album sap when i was in college.. i thought it had a picture of a satalite on the cover for months until i relized it was a bucket of sap
You guys are the best! I’m here for it
It's a song, that to me...
Is a perfect expression of loss, pain, and dispair..!!!
Something akin to, a perpetual state of grief, and or bereavement.!
Amazing how beautiful, travesty can be .
Everything is slowed down except “No Excuses” was sped up
To all those on here crying like little babies because Asia and BJ are doing exactly what their channel says... Walmart got HUGS 50% off so make your way up there and stock up. They are doing song reactions for their fans or maybe just themselves. I love hearing what they have to say, how they feel and what they feel about certain parts of the song. Lets you know their character, tells you a little bit about them as a person. It's 100 times more awesome that they are doing it to a kick azz tune that you love. I personally like the breaks throughout the song because it's their raw feelings and thoughts at that very moment. Some wait till the songs over before they layout their take on the song..doesn't bother me, it is what it is. That being said... for those crybabies on here, shove that passy in your mouth and get to Wally world. 🤷🏻♂️FRFR. Asian and BJ keep up the stellar reactions! I love The vibes you 2 give out doing this❗💯🔥🍻🎯
bY far one of my favorite albums
Wow I never saw the first set this is like a throwback I never seen love it
Carlos Santana and most all the musicians etc were experiencing the dream fungi brought to the garden by the J. keep on
Man, wish yall could've done the whole jam. fkn youtube!
It's so haunting and beautiful. I have this DVD and I love it.
I just can't😭😭😭💔💔💔
Holla from Chicago! Love you two!
He wore the ray bands for the anxiety coming out playing on a live crowd which he hadn’t performed with AIC in 3 years. He took them off once he settled in. But yeah he was high on herion before performing to help cope with his sickness so he could perform. Layne was a trooper! Poor soul, may he Rest In Peace…
Feeling!
Refresh Tears gel drops
Love you guys you are so good!
Poor kid was dopesick at this show and NAILED IT
I liked this before I even started watching. Probably the best Unplugged from a great band from my era.
A lot of attention goes to Nirvana and AIC unplugged and for good reason they were epic performances... But the truth is all the grunge bands were amazing. You guys would love the Stone Temple PIlots and Pearl Jams unplugged too.
Right on :) do it ...do it ....do it...
What's your favorite unplugged performance and why is it AIC?! Love Nirvana's, but this takes the cake. Layne, Gone too soon...😔
Layne’s voice always gets me in this unplugged he’s just high enough on heroine to sort of function but still is messed such good talent gone to soon because of addiction
Here for it! Blank or no!! ❤️❤️❤️
I was a teenager and had just watched this entire performance on dvd, when i turned it off, and turned on the local news they announced layne staley's death. I'll never forget it.
Layne vocals.Heroin
Mike bass. Cigarettes. Lol
Jerry guitar back vocals. Alcohol
Shawn drums. Alcohol
Mike Starr original bassist. Heroin Xanax
Jerry did cocaine and smoked weed
Aaron Lewis also covered this and he makes it sound just as beautiful in his own way
RIP to every other human spirit that deals with what we never tell anyone
Thanks one of the greatest alternative rock bands.
I've watched some many videos with you two.
It amazes me how Brad misses everything going on completely out of his comfort zone
Lex pulls all the weight, gets it right then backs down once Brad's nonsense continues.
Stick to you're guns girl
Just watching you during Tool videos while he's lost in space tells everything.!
You are the channel!
Love the hat AND the t-shirt!
Ice T ‘if you want to make it sound like no one else Asia ‘...
Jerry wrote this to try and get Layne off heroin as Jerry was hooked before as well.
From my understanding he was more into coke? He written this song about his brother but here live feels like a tribute to Layne
LIVED IN MINERAL WELLS WHEN I WAS A KID!!
Jerry Cantrell wrote most songs who is lead guitar and vocals.
hey from Prince George Canada
Gotta check out got me wrong from this unplugged
Never mind…found it!!! Yay!
Love 💘 y'all keeping the OLD school going. Love 💘 SWEET love from TEXAS
Yeah I think Jerry was the writer and Layne was the X factor
Jerry Cantrell wrote most the songs.
I watched this with you guys and wish U would have picked a couple different songs so you could actually hear how talented Layne was and how his voice could hit ranges that would amaze you, he had one of the best voices in rock.
Please react to the whole set
The bassist is gone to. I think by OD. RIP
Poor Lane Stanley cried out in his last performance. Drugs killed him and guitarist.
Drugs killed Mike Starr, their first bassist, not guitarist.
Nutshell kills me as someone who over came drug addiction after 20 years ..its soul crushing when your in it
Telling you to check out Mad season Layne other band.
Metallica was in the front row to support AIC and if you read the bassist words on his bass says Friends don’t let friends cut their hair - he was speaking about Metallica - who just cut hair short for their next album
That's is real talent
Layne is, practically, on his deathbed here.
I hope you can do more.
