Tip of flame is the hottest point so you have to keep moving otherwise you can cause defect. 5 years after when I sold vehicle trim looked brand new.
if you don't wanna accidentally ruin your plastic just leave your car outside on a hot day then put a thick coat of transmission fluid on, let sit an hour or so then wipe off with a clean rag. works great and will last a year.

Yes a heat gun would work. It would be a slow process but a easy way to do it 👍🏻
