    The St Louis is looking good Harry! I like to build WW2 armour, but for some reason I find your ship and boat builds to be fascinating to watch. Your skill and subject knowledge makes the difference I think. After watching you put the S-100 together, and the brilliant paint scheme that you used, I went out and bought the Revell kit. I haven’t started to build it yet, but I am looking forward to my first maritime model challenge. Keep them coming mate.
    Cheers from south of the border!

      Once you go ship you never go… oh bugger
      I got nothing that rhymes with that.

      I always felt there was potential in this kit, and it was worth saving, despite the badly done work on the hull by its previous owner.

      Yes that moulded wood grain is awful, but I cover my plastic decks with wood veneer planks. See Part 2 of the St Louis for how I do it and what I use.

    Nice stuff, Harry, have been waiting a long time for this update. Things look great on that deck and paintwork. Great results considering it first was a gluey mess when you purchased it. Greetz DutchDave.

    Hi Harry. The transom you did for the St Louis is absolutely gorgeous! I would like to learn how to do windows in this small scale. Did you use a thick resin on top of the windows?

    • @HarryHoudiniModels
      @HarryHoudiniModels  Рік тому

      No resin, just Lifecolor Liquid Pigment effects Ron. I did show my method in a previous St Louis video. Check the chapters, as they list each technique I do in the videos

    I wonder if Airfix used the basic hull mould of the St. Louis to make their Wasa kit - or visa versa!? haha... I'm noting major similarities with the hull with my 1970s unmade Wasa kit. To be expected of the time know doubt.

    • @HarryHoudiniModels
      @HarryHoudiniModels  2 роки тому

      I have both kits, and photos of the hull parts on Facebook. The Airfix Wasa and St Louis are very different. Although both were designed at the same time in the 17th century in the Dutch style, the Wasa is longer, wider, taller with more decks and has a lot more cannons, nearly doubled that of the St Louis. Airfix actually visited and measured the Wasa on display after it was refloated. The St Louis is just based on what little information we have of the Couronne and one model of it, lost now, from a French museum.

    Amazing paintjob! It really has the look and feel of wood. The weathering is spot-on and not exaggerated. P.S. Do you leave the brass support parts as is, or do you put protective varnish? They tend to oxidize and turn flat brown over time.

    • @HarryHoudiniModels
      @HarryHoudiniModels  2 роки тому +1

      A good point… I just let my current ship builds on pedestals get a nice antique patina. Back in my youth I just used the kits plastic stand. So going brass has been a new thing since I returned to the hobby last decade.
