    just had my astro city delivered after a month's wait.. over the moon, and it actually works! however it's even more gross than yours was and has this ungodly old moldy cigarette smell to it, lol. going to be fun trying to clean it in my tiny Japanese apartment. luckily my long-suffering wife has been super supportive of this latest midlife crisis :D thanks for the video - it's the most in depth candy cab teardown video on the net that I've found!

      Some of these candies can really be nasty in terms of cigarette smoke! Congrats on the pick up though, you are surely going to love it. It's a great cabinet for sure. :)

      @@SpaciesArcade got it! It had the same fibreglass cracks on the sides of the control panel, that's not too bad to sort. but that's all there is to do the guy selling it had pretty much refurbed it totally. My twin brother is a bike mechanic so he helped with the cap and everything, working remotely at home instead of the office it's perfect for a quick bit of street fighter on a lunch break. See how long the CRT lasts it's working perfectly, but maybe need to replace a part in the future who knows. We used your video extensively with the official instructions as reference. Thanks very much your video massively helped! 👍🏻

      @@Ozyrus Awesome! I'm glad you've got it and can enjoy some Street fighter goodness on that big beautiful 29" screen! I'm also happy that this video helped you. Thanks again and congratulations on scoring the Astro! Cheers :)

    "A dog's breakfast"? Generally a mess? Never heard that before. Very informative video. Thanks for sharing.

      LOL, yes "a dogs breakfast" is some localised saying for a complete mess! Thanks for watching!

    My factory cables on my New Astro City look just like those quick connect cakes you have. The only aftermarket cables I'm running are the CPS2 style kick harness. So, I believe those are stock cables.

      Thanks for the insight AtariBorn! I need to get back to that project, it's still in pieces in my study!

    Theres no need to discharge the monitor on these cabs, both Nanao MS8-29 and MS9 have an auto discharging mechanism, just turn it off and it will discharge, only thing you "may" need to discharge is the filter cap, but it is only needed if you are going to mess with chassis circuitry.

      Yes, but I like to do it as a point of habit so I know for sure - just in case.

    Hey mate, is there any way I can contact you by email regarding trying to make a reproduction of a control panel metal piece I'm missing and could possible be sold, since it's quite sought after (I'm only interested in getting one for myself, can't find them anywhere!!) Thanks!

    how many kilos are the monitors on their own?

    • @SpaciesArcade
      @SpaciesArcade  7 років тому

      Hey qskint, I don't know exactly but they feel like they are in the 40kg to 50kg range. They are best lifted with two people to be honest, especially when you move that weight away from your body to position it. That's when it gets tricky! Cheers

      Theatre of Magic thanks for the info! I've seen people mention laying them on their back makes it slightly easier. I'm just enquiring as I'm looking at buying one and will have to dismantle it, although I'm more concerned about electrocution myself from the discharge haha

    • @SpaciesArcade
      @SpaciesArcade  7 років тому

      Yep I've heard that two. The only thing though is the lifting and lowering of a monitor into place when the cabinet is on it's back can't be easy!? Definitely buy one anyway - you won't regret it!...it's good to be concerned about electrocution! It means you'll take the necessary care to ensure that you are safe! Good luck and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers. :)
