Laini is literally becoming a super mom!! she does everything, she just had a baby, her first, she got a house and kept a whole business going while having covid!! omg 🛐🛐🛐
Laini I love your taste and deep appreciation of this house’s character! You’re such a good role model for the tik tok house reno craziness. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. It’s giving such Paige Wassel vibes already… might be cool to collaborate with her on one of these rooms if you need any inspo 👀 or I’m just saying that cuz it’s my dream UA-cam duo aha.
I can't tell you how many times I've tried to convince people to NOT knock down the walls and KEEP the rooms! These homes were well thought out and there is not much need to change them.
I randomly stumbled across your home tour and really enjoyed seeing how much you loved the original charm of your house. Our house is a little “newer”, from 1975 and also has vaulted ceilings, wooden moulding and doors, and some other unique touches we’ve fallen in love with. It’s fun adding your own style and modernizing while still honouring the original spirit of the house, working with it and being inspired by it instead of turning it into some bland grey box like you talked about. Kinda excited to see what you do with it!
It always takes a younger generation to appreciate and save the architecture of an older generation. We live in a 1949 mid century cottage of a home right on a river in N. IL. WE HAVE A 9 ft long swooping couch and two chairs, different but matching as a 3 piece set from 1965 JC Penny’s. Kermit the frog green. Keep that refrigerator forever, they are not made like yours any longer. It’s a Cadillac. I grew up with pocket doors everywhere. The one between the kitchen and dining room in my boyhood home still has the markings on the edge recording our heights over the years. Myself and two other brothers. I met the lady that bought that home from my parents in the late 80’s. She said that she’s never going to remove our growth records from that door edge. Cute house you purchased! New sub!
i am SO excited to see how you will change things up and decorate this house! it seems so fitting and im soo happy for u (and for me too cause i loveeee room makeover kinda things lol)
My grandparents' home had that same mirrored tile on either side of the front door in their living room. They had a traditional 1950's cape cod style home in NW Indiana. Thank you for unlocking that core memory for me. They were a huge part of my childhood and I miss them both so much.
our house had them too but we took them out in the mid to late 2000's. the house i grew up in, was a multigenerational home and my grandparents were the first ones to move in sometime between 1970-1973. we've all moved out now, the last one was my grandma in 2015. shes renovating it now. my aunt JUST moved into a house thats mid century and they also have these tiles lol. we all live in southern california
@@No1PlutoSupporter My grandparents bought their house in 1957. It was sold in 2002 after they had both passed away. The mirror tile was still in it then.
I love rooms as well! Never got the open concept/loft apartment thing. It’s so much more cozy and you don’t annoy each other when you are doing different activities.
I agree, that people who want to strip the vintage character from a place, should buy a grey box in the first place! I love that you're keeping the original features. Congratulations on your wonderful purchase :)
2:20 - as someone with a history degree who adores historical architecture and design, THANK YOU for not painting over that gorgeous (and imo cozy) wood. 😭😭 It breaks my heart when people renovate old details like that that could be preserved. And hell yeah re: having rooms! Separation of space is way underrated. It’s always nice to see people online who have an appreciation for these older details. And I love how Ernie has clearly already made himself at home, haha. This house is absolutely gorgeous and I’m so happy for you and your family! Hope you all also have a good recovery - COVID is no joke!
'I like rooms', that's my girl. Love the kitchen, particularly the cabinetry. @10:51, that cupboard is giving off refrigerator styling and it's fab. I am glad that you intend to honour the history of the home with your updates.
i love this house omg! this style feels so comforting and homey, probably because i grew up in something similar. i will forever love the comfy dated aesthetic over the bland beige modern style
wdym you’re not going to put barn doors up everywhere and knock down every wall!?!!! lol but truthfully i’m so happy that you were the person to get this home :’) cannot wait to see the reno + decorating process 🥹
I used to work in furniture/building restoration and conservation and it warms my heart when people have appreciation for original and old design. That is a beautiful, well kept house and the furniture is also super beautiful. That will last 100s of years when kept well. That yellow toilet is so amazing. It looks new, I'm amazed!
I am SO HAPPY for you and your family!! Owning your own home is such a blessing, especially at your age like girl you are SET. It’s so cute too I am so jealous! Also, I don’t blame you for being scared to go into the basement, I once was hired to clean someone’s house before they moved in, the setup was similar and when I tell you I have never cleaned so fast in all my life😂 I wanted to cry but yeah. Fuck creepy basements. Can’t wait for future Reno videos!
My first house was built in 1961. We bought it used. It had the same entry! Well, it was the 70s, so we hung beads where they have the wood dividers. The hardwood was oak, and waxed. Every once in awhile I waxed and polished the high traffic areas. I like that more than polyurethane. I looove the chairs and table. Wow. They still look contemporary.
The whole time you were explaining your vision for adding updates to the house and retaining the homes original pieces, I was like, "Oh my gosh, yes. Love this woman."
god this brings me back to 'that house' were we lived for a few years when i was a kid - all the other places ive lived in have been new build so green carpets parque flooring and teal china in the bathrooms was a shock but this video makes me want that damp house with no heating backkkk
I am absolutely dying over the pink appliances! And I love the yellow bathroom. I wish it still had the yellow tub! You could probably find one. Even if it's in a junkyard, those old cast iron tubs can be in perfect shape. I agree, a tub is much easier with babies. Congratulations on your new home. The furniture in the entryway is fantastic. That coffee table is worth a mint!
OMG! A pink kitchen! I had one too; the previous owner had pink wallpaper, pink counters, pink backsplash & pink appliances…it was in Ohio. I love that you’re keeping so much the way it’s always been. We didn’t keep the pink, but now, I would keep the pink appliances.
Sooo happy to hear that there are others out there who hate it when people paint over beautiful wood features. Can't wait until the beige house trend is gone...
I'm SO glad you, Brendan and baby are all okay!! The house is GORGEOUS and I'm so glad you are keeping it this way (I never doubted you'd paint it grey for a second)
Oooo this house is beautiful! The strange back room with the outside door would make a really great office space in my opinion. Also finishing the basement in the future for a teenager/more kids would be a really fun project! Very excited to watch your reno videos 😊
You should watch XoMacenna! I learned so much from her and she inspired me to do Renos by myself. She really respects the history of the house, and does her interior design based on the style of house. Also obviously the sorry girls have great examples of more mid century. Congrats! I’m so so excited for the future house vids
I’m so happy for you Laini. You already seem like such a good mama and this house is just gonna be so much fun for you. I’m so glad you’re keeping so many of its fun and timeless quirks :)
I love this house, and I love that you are gonna keep it original! (For the most part) The kitchen and yellow bathroom are so awesome. Love the fridge and stove too!
Same!!! They are so hard to find, and so expensive if you do find them. Definitely a keeper! And that Danish modern coffee table in the entryway is worth a lot. I absolutely love it.
I'm so envious! I absolutely love your house and am so happy you're leaving the original features. I love the bathroom. Yellow is my favorite color. I'm so excited to see what changes you make in the house.
Thank you!!!! I am obsessed with mid century homes and I want to cry so hard every time I look at a listing where the outside of the house is so cute and then you see the inside and it’s all construction grade, uninspired cheap grey everything 😭
I’m so glad you guys got through the “c-word” ok! 😰❤ Congratulations on your amazing new home, and thanks for sharing it with us!! 😍❤️ My husband and I bought our home from original owners as well and will always be keeping our built-in + natural wood features in-tact too! 👌 Ours was built around the same time as yours (1960)- the kitchen also has a pocket door and the main bathroom has tile + built-in soap/toothbrush holders! 😄 Our shower was also changed to one with a glass door- one tip I have for the shower is to get a squeegee and use it on the glass after every shower. It will keep the glass spotless and make it so you rarely have to clean it! 👍👍 Also, if that wood paneling is solid wood and you just don’t like the color, you could always sand it and re-stain it! 😊
this is the closest thing i’ve seen to what i think my dream home would be 😍 and i know you guys will do justice to the beautiful original features!!! bless
congrats what a dream home!! the pink appliances are so cute and everything is in such perfect condition, you can tell the previous owners really loved their home and took good care of it
Congratulations on your new home! The pink appliances are adorable 😍 last year I bought an apartment from the 70s and it has 2 of those wall cutouts, minus the shelves. I’ve been storing some of my books along the bottom but this kinda makes me want to put in shelves like that now 👀
Aww, my boyfriend and I are buying an older house right now! I love that you appreciate all the character and charm like we do. Can’t wait to see how you make yours into your home.
I loooove this, literally so close to my own dream home. The funky cabinets and the appliances, the pocket doors and the closet space are a literal dream. Can’t wait for all the interior content ❤
also thank god laini bought this house and not a house flipping gray aesthetics-only person. Warm wood and original fixtures are so cute it breaks my heart when people remove it
wow that house is so adorable! a dream house, i'm looking forward to see your renovations and decorations. That carpet on carpet thing is so funny - it's a wild concept to witness from where i live on the other side of the world haha
Haha FINALLY someone else besides my retired coworker says Door Wall for Sliding Door. I thought she was nuts! It is so strange to hear though. The house is awesome and I know you will make it so cute. LOVE the appliances!
Congratulations Laini!! This looks amazing. Unpopular opinion: keep the 70s carpet in the baby room, I love it!!!! It's so unique, probably just needs a deep clean!
oh Laini I love the place and your appreciation of it! although you may have covid you are glowing and it so exciting to see you already enjoying this place! best of luck with the moving, can't wait to see your personal touch on it
So excited for you & Brandon! ❤️ As someone who has been in a very long house reno process do not get LVP flooring I definitely recommend laminate floors - quality ones! But good luck on all the renovations!

This is a terrific house! I mean pink tile in the kitchen and pocket doors! Pocket doors, love it! And I am with you I like room separated. People don’t realize what open concept houses if someone’s banging around the kitchen area and your time to watch a movie in the living room and you have open concept, it’s really annoying! Other than the flooring and moving some appliances around, it doesn’t look like you have to do much else. Anyway, great house and good luck!
Laini is literally becoming a super mom!! she does everything, she just had a baby, her first, she got a house and kept a whole business going while having covid!! omg 🛐🛐🛐
She’s a superwoman ❤
Laini I love your taste and deep appreciation of this house’s character! You’re such a good role model for the tik tok house reno craziness. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. It’s giving such Paige Wassel vibes already… might be cool to collaborate with her on one of these rooms if you need any inspo 👀 or I’m just saying that cuz it’s my dream UA-cam duo aha.
It’d be a DREAM for Paige to help me out, she’s my house style inspo always
I know her if you want an intro 😊

“Damp house no heating” brought back all my memories 😂 wish I fully appreciated the teal accents while still living with my parents
so refreshing. It really doesn’t need a lot of renovation and the size is perfect to me.
The pink kitchen and yellow bathroom are the best things I’ve ever seen

I have a midcentury 1951 home and the untouched pony wall is my favorite part
Congrats on the new home! Excited to see such a beautiful house being cared for instead of being painted white!
I love this house, and I love that you are gonna keep it original! (For the most part) The kitchen and yellow bathroom are so awesome. Love the fridge and stove too!
You could keep a swatch of any of the carpet or wallpaper you like and frame it for a thrifty art piece that pays homage to the house !!!
The pink appliances and the yellow bathroom are amazing!
SO EXCITING!!! Upcoming Laini home content? YES PLS 🥹 Congrats to you and the fam 💖💖💖
DUDE THAT WALL SHELVING UNIT DESK!! I’ve been searching for one for soo so long. I gasped so hard 😭

Oh my God I’m beyond happy for you 😭😭🥹 I’ve been watching you for so long, I’m like a proud mom !! 💕💕
the fridge is sooo cute!! I feel like Laini talked about a pink SMEG fridge in her studio vlog but I might be wrong
This is my dream home!! I am so happy for you and it is amazing how you are keeping it mostly original!
the tiled green bathroom reminds me of the homemade desk stand you had early on that was tiled. so amazing to see how far you’ve come 💖💖
the place is perfect for you guys, i'm so excited to see what you'll do with this new space
CONGRATULATIONS so proud of you & this moment for you & your family ❤️❤️❤️🥰
Congratulations Laini!! This looks amazing. Unpopular opinion: keep the 70s carpet in the baby room, I love it!!!! It's so unique, probably just needs a deep clean!
I love that you’re keeping some pieces original, they are phenomenal!
I hope you got a great deal on your first house ❤
oh Laini I love the place and your appreciation of it! although you may have covid you are glowing and it so exciting to see you already enjoying this place! best of luck with the moving, can't wait to see your personal touch on it
This is so amazing i cant wait to how everything comes together!!!

Oh my goodness 🥺 this is such a beautiful home 🥺 manifesting to find something like this when I get older/when I have enough money!!!!
can't wait to see what you do with it! would LOVE to see Paige Wassel's reaction/thoughts on decor.
gosh this house is amazing
Congrats on your house!! Buying a house in this market is so hard lol. So excited for y’all :) and the PINK FRIDGE omg I loveee
Congrats!!! I can't imagine how much of a dream come true this is, wow!
So excited for you & Brandon! ❤️
As someone who has been in a very long house reno process do not get LVP flooring I definitely recommend laminate floors - quality ones! But good luck on all the renovations!
Pink walks and burgundy trims in the baby room would be adooorable 🥀🩰 truly a dream house Laini! Congratulations 🫶
Would you feel comfortable making a video talking about your process of buying the house? Like your requirements for a house, your budget, how you bought? Just curious about homeowning as the economy ain't doing too well now...
I can!!! Lucky for me Michigan housing is pretty inexpensive compared to a lot of other places, so it’s a bit different!
wow congrats!!! this house is amazing!!! i love that you're gonna keep the original character. you should check out Kailee McKenzie's house reno, she's also keeping the original character of the home (lots of wood like yours) but adding really cool stylish touches.
Thanks for showing us your adorable house, and I hope that you and your family get well soon!
THE PINK APPLIANCES. The floral wallpaper?! Amazing!!
Congratulations to you guys!! 🎉 This is so exciting and I can’t wait to see what you share with us. Can’t wait to see more of the house! 🥰
For the downstairs bathroom I would keep the sink, replace the hardware and either strip the vanity and whitewash it or paint it
Pocket door tho doesn't cancel any sound! 😂 Anywhere where I've been and it had those it was so echoyyyy especially bathroom my gosh 💀😂
Omg not good for a bathroom lololol
