Please help! Live off grid and am freezing!! My Quadra Fire Mt.Vernon cradle that holds the igniter is not attached and is swinging freely. Cannot figure out how to reattach it to the stove?
Thanks for contacting us. The igniter cradle is a welded assembly to the cast iron burnpot. You should be able to see where those welds were and maybe there is someone experienced near you that can re-weld the steel cradle to the cast iron pot. In the meantime you can manually light your fire. With the stove off, place a handful of pellets in the burnpot and add a firestarter. Gel firestarter, Parfin starter material, etc.. will work well - never use a liquid starter such as gasoline or lighter fluid. Light the fire with a match and leave the door open for a few minutes before you close the door and start the stove. Here are links for the replacement burnpots; I'm not sure which Mt. Vernon model you have so there are links here for all 3. Any questions please let us know. Mt. Vernon O.E. @@EarthSense Thanks so much!! Trying to figure out how to put my bottom drawer back in place as the unweeded piece and wires are in the way. Can’t figure out how to remove right side panel. I’m thinking I can access the wires easier there. Please advise please and thank-you!
@@KarenBuchanan-j9q Thanks for the message back. I would suggest disconnecting the igniter wires. You should then be able to pull out the igniter and un-welded cradled. You should be able to disconnect them by the ash pan area. From there you should be able to have your ash drawer back in place and manually light your fire until you're able to fix the weld.
@@EarthSense Thank-you Earth Sense for your prompt reply and help! Greatly appreciated! I ended up tying 2 pieces of metal wire around the loose cradle and then tied it to another piece of metal above the area where the cradle weld failed. This allowed me the clearance needed to reinsert the bottom ash tray. Happy to report I fixed the problem and am warm again. Should I be concerned about the wires that are attached to the igniter as I moved the starter higher than the original position? How do open up the right side panel of my Quadra Fire Mt. Vernon pellet stove please. Cheers
I checked the ohms on my igniter and it seems fine. I can see the igniter glowing red but it doesn’t ignite pellets in the firepot. Could it be a fan that is not pushing air across the igniter?
Thanks for the message. Sounds like your igniter is good. It's either going to be an air loss or air blockage preventing proper ignition. Check gasket seals around the door and ash pan and check the combustion blower operation during start-up. Let's also check the burnpot holes to make sure they are not plugged and that the bottom pork chop plate is closing properly. Inspect the air inlet to the bottom of the burnpot and igniter area. Let's make sure there is nothing blocking it. Ash blockage in the stove and vent can certainly come into play as well. Check the simple things first and keep us posted. @@andyluikens8307 Thanks for the additional details. So it sounds like it is lighting fine if you manually add pellets to the burnpot. Are pellets feeding at all? When you push the reset button do pellets drop in the firepot? If the stove is feeding intermittently could be an issue with the auger motor itself. If the stove is not feeding pellets at all it could be the motor or one of the safety switches that is not allowing it to run such as the high limit switch or vacuum switch. Let us know if it is feeding at all and we can better help troubleshoot. The convection blower is connected to a low limit switch. The stove has to get hot enough during the startup cycle to allow that switch to lock in and have the convection blower come on. It makes sense that it is not coming on right now based on what you are saying. We're happy to help, keep us posted.
If I hit the reset button it dumps a bunch of pellets and the fire gets real big and then dies out. So the auger dumps pellets but only immediately after hitting reset button. It doesn’t continuously add pellets. It finally got hot enough to kick on the blower, but again the fire dies out if I don’t keep hitting the reset button. Thanks for your help. Could it be the control panel? I just replaced the thermocouple a couple days ago because I thought that was the problem. I think I actually ordered the ceramic cover from your company. My old thermocouple didn’t even have a ceramic cover anymore.
Thanks for contacting us. Its always good to check the basics first. Let's make sure the new replacement igniter is in proper ohm range. It should be providing a reading of 43.5 to 53.5 if it's the 300 watt element, 35.0 to 43.5 if it's the 380 watt element. If it is outside of the ohm range best to get it warrantied and get a replacement. If it is inside proper range, I would double check all wires and connection points. If no electrical is coming to the igniter element, it's most likely a control box issue. The control box can be tested if needed. Happy to help. I added a handful of pellets to the firepot and it ignited. I think it is not properly feeding pellets.
Also, the convection blower never kicks on and the fire eventually dies out since no pellets are being delivered to the fire pot
