      The late-season archery OTC usually starts in December and runs until the end of January. Also, there is early season archery OTC that starts toward the end of August and runs until the middle of September.

    Thank you so much for the great video. I appreciate everything you guys have done through Go Hunt, you are fighting the good fight. I appreciate you helping the rest of us take advantage of public land ownership. I have a hot tip for you. I once had a challenge as a technician never getting enough light for work. It became an obsession and I studied a million types of lights. I found EZ RED Neck Lights. Total game changer. Wear on your neck when not used or using broad light. I wear all day and forget I have on. Can angle down or up. Rest on head like glasses when really need brightness. Get the rechargeable. Will change your life. Please let me know what you think. If it does change your life some swagger or a premium membership would be great. But if not you have given me so much already.

    Trail that is a lot of stuff! I see everyone use the havalon knives are they that good. I have always just used a folding carpenters knife with standard and hook blades.

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  3 роки тому

      With havalon replaceable blade knife, you are using a surgical blade. It's about as sharp as a knife can get. Plus it's very easy to replace those blades if it gets dull making it very convenient out in the field. Not to mention it's also very lightweight.

      Kifaru pull outs. Awesome pouches made in the USA with all US components!

      They are indeed Kifaru pull-out pouches. I have had those for probably ten years or so. We sell similar pouches from Stone Glacier, Mystery Ranch and Seek Outside. They are all similar in design and function, I've just had these forever. They are great for organizing your gear!

    What about a bone saw? I'm still super new to hunting, and have only killed one big game animal myself. I'm just wondering if a bone saw is needed or if you just always do the gutless method and bone out the ribs?

    • @Freduccine978
      @Freduccine978 3 роки тому +1

      In my experience you only need a blade for skinning, and a sturdy knife for taking the head off if you're keeping it. Have never used a saw, even when gutting.

      It depends on the species. For deer and antelope, I do not use a bonesaw. They are small enough I can handle everything I need to with a fixed blade knife. On larger game like elk or moose, I definitely pack a small saw like the Outdoor Edge Griz Saw or perhaps a Gerber Freescape saw with a bone blade. For those bigger species I have used a saw to cut the skull plate out, cut leg bones, ribs, and in many cases small trees and brush so that I can more easily get into position to work on an animal. I always have a saw when I am elk hunting!

    Definitely not a kill kit. More like a kill kit with med kit, with headlamps,...still good stuff.

    • @trailkreitzer9163
      @trailkreitzer9163 3 роки тому

      Agreed, definitely more than a kill kit alone but I would advise people to have a lot of that stuff in their kill kit always. A headlamp, bandages, sharpie, tape...all of that should be in a kill kit in my opinion.

      Not really. It’s a valid question. Especially if you’re coming from apart of the country that doesn’t understand the reality there. Also, if you’re planning to camp out. You need to know what to expect.

      This is actually a common question from folks considering hunts that occur along the border. I did not observe first hand any illegal immigrants but we did have hunters in our camp that did. Brady had a group of eight walk in behind him as he was sitting a water tank. The evidence is all around; plastic water jugs, clothing and shoes but I never have felt unsafe. The border patrol presence is always felt, you will see agents driving the roads, flying ridges in helicopters, and most of the tallest peaks had agents and equipment posted up. In talking with other hunters that have hunted these areas for twenty plus years, most have seen things..immigrants, drugs, and some have been stopped and told to avoid certain areas on any given day but those situations are extremely rare. Personally I feel like the risk is small in exchange for what has been really good hunting. I think it's like most things, be aware and considerate of your surrounds and hunt/camp accordingly!

      Having hunted in deep South Texas along the border, I too have encountered illegals as I walked to my deer stand early in the morning in pitch black darkness. They will usually just keep on moving if they make any kind of visual contact with you because most of them are more afraid of you than not afraid of you. But, on occasion you will run into some that aren't afraid and will come at you. It's best for you to be aware, be prepared, and be carrying a good handgun.
