We have family that are Atkinson... & ... we had family from England the Grays... My Great Aunt taught me how to server "Proper Tea"... I used to have a Beautiful Tea Cup and Saucer from England, in 1977... but lost it when I was in a flood in 2008... I cried because my Grandmother had brought it back especially for me... I love a good spot of tea... ;)
Thank you so much for the explanations! I enjoy your videos! This was a perfect find from your archives as I’m right at that point of getting a makers mark for my creations. It really pinpointed which way to go for what I need. Saved me money & time on buying unnecessary tools for methods that might not work well in the end. Look forward to any new content on leather crafting!
Great to see videos from you again. Prayers for you and your health, hoping you feel better. I had to chuckle when you said it was a japanese plug...that's the same plug we use in the States. I never understood why other countries use different plugs?
Voltage is also another reason for plug differences. The United States uses 120V while UK and Malaysia (where I come from) use 220-240V which would burn appliances which aren't multi-voltage compatible
They all use different plugs because their power supply infrastructure evolved differently and progressed at different rates. There isn't any sort of universal standard yet as no governing body has world wide acceptance for standards.
Great video! I subscribed! I’m trying to emboss a leather or faux leather on tags for crochet items😊 I have a Sizzix machine to press them. Do you think that would work?
I do appreciate your review on the logo stamp. I just wish you would have demonstrated how you did the first two being done. Im a visual person so doing is better to catch on like you did with the hot iron at the end of your video. Otherwise, very good. Thank you.
Thanks for the video Ian, what kind of arbour press would you recommend to use with the hex n hit stamp...i bought one with my logo and now want to invest in a press. Thanks ! and thanks for all your videos, they have saved me over the last few years so many times !!!
Thanks so much for getting back to me Ian, I've just ordered that press- don't know much about such items so it would have taken me hours or research and then a decision i was very uncertain about , so thank you again !@@Leodis.Leather
Awesome thank you Ian Just wondering if you could do some more vids on the new knife systems the ones with ferro rod , sharpening system and altoids tin etc....
Hi Ian, great video, I’ve only just discovered your channel but I see I’m going to spend many hours learning from your videos. I’m thinking of ordering one of these stamps to use on my kilt straps, but I don’t have a press. Do you think it would work if I squeeze it in a G-clamp instead? Thanks Bobby
Hello again Ian. What temperature do you recommend heating your brass stamps up to for embossing your leather effectively but without damaging it? Thanks
John H that’s great, thank you. I bought an infrared thermometer to be sure. And I tried using my ratchet clamp, it it worked okay, but it wasn’t easy as you can’t see what it’s doing being sandwiched in between two bits of wood, so I’ve just invested in an arbor press, and it’s so much better!
I do it on time not temperature so it gets about 40-45 seconds with a 2kW heat gun and that's just about right. That will get the brass to about 60-80C though I don't think it's all that critical, if it's too hot it will burn the leather though so that's enough.
unless you can exert a metric tonne of pressure with your hand no! You can use a g-clamp or similar if the piece will fit in but it's fiddly, I would just buy the press.
@@Leodis.Leather Thanks! Would proper heat and a heavy hammer be any better? I seen some videos of people using just normal tooling mallets/mauls with cased veg tan that seem to work. Also, literally just bought one of your patterns a few hours ago. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this review, I plan to buy mine from Hex n Hit, but not sure you said 10 cm 2? how big is your logo? what is the largest I can go for a travelors note book?
great advice-thanks for sharing. My question is I want to put my makers mark on veg dyed leather sweatbands for hats, so the leather is much thinner than your sample leather you use, is there any alternative I can use on treated veritable dyed leather ? I'm assuming there is no way to do a heat stamping of these letterpress letters, any advice cheerfully
thanks for the speedy reply...I checked out your other clips- the pressing machine you use, is there an alternative ? If absolutely essential, how much can I expect to spend on it ? I am a new to hat making and as you so wisely suggested, one needs to test market one's goods before jumping head first into long-term-use tools.
yes I think so as long as it went down cool enough, it's harder to apply pressure with a soldering iron compared to an arbor press though so it's not something I'd recommend overall
Well Ian, you may have described exactly what you purchased, but if you look at the current website, it does not effectively lay out where to select/order what you have. (at least from what I have seen) I may be mistaken, but it gives no direction to any particular ordering options like a traditional site would. Is it in the portfolio section? I'm only asking you because I'd like to purchase something similar in size to yours, but without some of the other accessories. Thank you
Yes, I understand that. But you had to order yours, so I thought that maybe you would be able to explain better how to go about the ordering process. Thanks anyway.
Hi, Trey Reedy, I just emailed the company asking them how to proceed with an order. Email info@hexnhitstamps.com, and they'll get back to you with a pdf explaining everything you need to provide + price, etc

Bro, I live your videos. Thank you so much to give us this for free. You've got yourself a new subscriber
Amazingly useful thank you! I've been pressing away my stuff in the garage wondering why it wasn't working as well as hot stamping does.
Nice one Ian, the stamp looks great! Can definitely relate to "cut the plug off it!" haha
If you don’t have a press. Would the hot stamping work on a slightly damp piece of leather using a hammer? A kind of combo of both methods?
Thanks
Good job. I was able to make one that works on 12 volts
nice video! and nice stamp! I am lucky to have an uncle who is an hand engraver. he has made my stamp. I use it on both wood and leather.
Great to see videos from you again. Prayers for you and your health, hoping you feel better. I had to chuckle when you said it was a japanese plug...that's the same plug we use in the States. I never understood why other countries use different plugs?
UK plugs have an earth pin and a fuse inside.
Very informative! Thanks. Can you use it in Vinyl or Imitation Leather?
Thanks for the comprehensive video!
One question: Can one also foil emboss with this set?

Hi Ann, please see the video description for a link to purchase a press like mine

Hi there, can you use this with foil stamping on finished leather like for a bookbinding?
Did you buy right from the Hex N Hit website or are they on etsy?
Awesome thank you Ian
Just wondering if you could do some more vids on the new knife systems the ones with ferro rod , sharpening system and altoids tin etc....
Been getting good results with some that I made on my 3D printer.
Hi...which 3D printer do you use?
Esther Tan It’s an Anet A8 from about four years ago, with quite a few upgrades.
B Kennedy Thanks, will take a look 😊
You are always so informative and helpful, thank you for sharing your knowledge

rubber stamp! I never thought of it before
Hi Ian great video but I would not be inclined to use that soldering iron as theres no Earth on it ..keep the great work up

Yes it’ll work fine it’s just a bit tedious!
Ian Atkinson fantastic! Thank you!
Hello again Ian. What temperature do you recommend heating your brass stamps up to for embossing your leather effectively but without damaging it?
Thanks
He says it in the video if you watch to the end. 50-70 degrees C. He also shows that in the hot stamping video.
Great vid. Do these work well on PU leather?
No idea I don’t use it.
Hello Ian when you used the heat gun, any idea what temperature the stamp was at when you pressed it on the leather?
I do it on time not temperature so it gets about 40-45 seconds with a 2kW heat gun and that's just about right. That will get the brass to about 60-80C though I don't think it's all that critical, if it's too hot it will burn the leather though so that's enough.
Ian Atkinson great thanks for your reply!
If I don't have an arbor press yet, if I heated to the correct temperature, could I get away with using hand pressure?
unless you can exert a metric tonne of pressure with your hand no! You can use a g-clamp or similar if the piece will fit in but it's fiddly, I would just buy the press.
@@Leodis.Leather Thanks! Would proper heat and a heavy hammer be any better? I seen some videos of people using just normal tooling mallets/mauls with cased veg tan that seem to work.

xderiwx yes if you’re casing the leather a hammer will work fine, the press is more for hot stamping but works with the cased leather too
Can you stamp dyed veg tanned leather b y striking the stamp and not using a press?
Yes, these come with a handle to use with a maul
But sadly I don’t seem to get much of an impression even after heating the stamp and hitting right hard. Suggestions?
You need to case the leather, if your question was can you hot stamp with a hammer the answer is no.
Masterful job as always Ian. Thanks for the video!
Can I use the stamp on my leather bag?
Haha totally true "cut plug off it" and with your northern accent it rang a bell with me@D
Thank you so much for this review, I plan to buy mine from Hex n Hit, but not sure you said 10 cm 2? how big is your logo? what is the largest I can go for a travelors note book?
hi ian, awesome video as always, do you remember if you had to pay customs for this? many thanks
If you’re in the Uk there’s a customs calculator on my website
Incredible video
Learned something today. Thank you for the tutorial.
is it possible to heat the leather and use a plexiglass stamp?
great advice-thanks for sharing.
You can hot stamp these no problem as shown in the other video on the letter stamps.
thanks for the speedy reply...I checked out your other clips- the pressing machine you use, is there an alternative ? If absolutely essential, how much can I expect to spend on it ? I am a new to hat making and as you so wisely suggested, one needs to test market one's goods before jumping head first into long-term-use tools.
I guess the soldering iron solution would be fine if you happen to have a temperature-controlled soldering station.
yes I think so as long as it went down cool enough, it's harder to apply pressure with a soldering iron compared to an arbor press though so it's not something I'd recommend overall
Thank you my friend😎
Thanks for your detail.
Fantastic video! Very informative. Thank you for sharing
Very informative, Ian. Just what I was looking to know. Thanks! Cactus Wren, in the Mojave Desert

Great video!
Thanks! It's awesome!
Thanks Ian.
beautiful
Looking at the Hex & Hit website, I'm wondering which specific option you chose when ordering your stamp?
in what sense? I explained exactly what I bought in the video
Well Ian, you may have described exactly what you purchased, but if you look at the current website, it does not effectively lay out where to select/order what you have. email them to start an order they'll send you some PDFs, I don't have any affiliation with them and don't have anything to do with their website
