You can use these stamps for either hot stamping (if you're careful, they're Mg so don't set them on fire!) or more commonly on cased leather. I just case the leather as if I was going to do any other tooling then press in the design with either my arbor press or a G-clamp against a flat piece of wood if it's bigger. If you want to try hot stamping them without the expensive machine you can carefully heat it with a heat gun.
Ian Atkinson when hot stamping the magnesium how would I then attach it. You can’t heat the metal with glue behind it so how would you attach to another metal for hot stamping? I like the bolt ideas but what sort of bond do I use? You can’t weld it. Is there a glue that you can heat up?
@loadedpete16 Not really no, a wooden stamp wouldn't stand up to repeated hammering and give a crisp impression, it would also pick up pigment if used on wet dyed leather.
Love your videos. I'm a bit of a fan of most things British, so I'd rather hear your accent than some others. Heck, you're easier to understand than some of my neighbors, er, neighbours. :-) Greetings from the US. (the part of the country that's "semi-lingual.")
Excellent bit of info there. As to your accent, I see, um hear no problem with it. I've certainly heard a few accents from around the UK that were a bit on the thick side, but then there are some here in the States that are difficult as well.
Fantastic video! I've been meaning to ask you how you went about getting your stamps made, but kept forgetting. Thanks for providing some great information. By the way, your accent is perfectly fine, so there is really no reason to have to annotate all of your videos :) Keep up the great work! We need to see some knife videos/ knife collection videos from you too!
I was just looking into getting some of these made and had the same idea of putting more than one design on and then cutting it, my concern was the risk of fire if cutting it on a bandsaw etc. You mention in the video that it can be cut with a hacksaw, I was just curious if you actually used a hacksaw or a bandsaw and if you had any issues. Since you have a beveled hexagon around your one stamp I'm assuming you did more finishing work, was that done with any power tools? PS I just found your channel and it's a great pool of knowledge, you've covered so many topics that I've had questions about so thank you for all of your hard work!
From Australia here. Don't worry mate, your accent was perfectly understandable. Looking to get stamps made, so thanks for the info. Hopefully I can find some photoengraving companies down under.
I want to stamp onto thin leather as I'm using processed chrome tanned leather so I need a sew on badge, how thin could I go, was looking at 1-2mm. Great common sense videos, very accessible, well done Ian Paul L
Astrid Jordan you can stamp thin leather like that, you'd need to hot stamp it though (I have a video on that if you look) you can't wet stamp chrome tan.
I understood you perfectly îan come on Northern England .......haha...Excellent videos, is the Leprevo stamps the Embossing Plates section of their website and the adobe illustrator is that a phone app or for pc. Cheers seän
Excuse me, i would like to ask you what is the best "leather fabric" if i want to use leather stamps on..."on a project" going to make a bookmark.. and what's the best website to make or order a stamp from ? HELP!
Sean I finally got my order from Le Prevo thank you very much it came out great. I wanted to ask you a question in regards to the stamps have you ever used them with heat and how would you go about glueing them for that purpose I was thinking JB Weld glue as a heat resistant glue.? Any info on this matter would be appreciated. I wanted to also emboss my leather with heat, will the magnesium work for this with a heat gun?
where did you learn how to do leather work. im just starting out and was wondering if you were self taught from books or just picked it up, I would appreciate any recommendations you have on learning materials i.e. books or dvd.
Great video thankyou ☺ I build alot of scale models and use alot of epoxy resin like miliput etc, have you come across resin stamps before? I think the process of making customs out of resin would be very simple and cost effective im very new to leather working but would be interested to hear what you think.

Accent not a problem man. I'm from Canada and i've watched the majority of yours videos without any problem.
@lilblitz No you need tooling leather for this, thinner leather would have to be branded I would think (same stamps but in a heat press)
Le Prevo aren't based in Northumberland, their based in the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne NE1 postcode. A place called Charlotte Square.
Great info. -- As an American...I can understand your Brit accent just fine. Thanks!

Derek Truong how did you go with finding a company over here in Aus looking at getting one made myself.
Derek Truong did you find a place down under?
maybe we could team up with the other commenter Michael Brown to do an order?
Another suggestion, a jeweler could carve your design in wax with a small CNC machine, then you could have the stamp cast in metal.
