Your tutorials are truly amazing. Your explanations are very comprehensible, even for beginners. Not only do you explain what to do, but why you should do it. Thank you for taking the time to post these amazing tutorials. As always, I'm looking forward to your next one. Continued success!!!!
A small technical question for a wonderful technical lesson: what is the advantage of holding the brush overhand? (I also enjoyed learning how to brace your hand with the finger of the other for easier control.) In appreciation..
Chaya, when holding the brush over hand, we have more freedom to maneuver it from the wrist and shoulder. That can give us a more spontaneous brush stroke.
Excellent tutorial, thanks Dianne. Those greys at the distance are very difficult to read from nature and thus to achieve. They either go brownish or to a violet-purplish tone.
Try thinking of each neutralized color you see as a chord of three notes--1 (hue) 2 (value) 3 (intensity) -- rather than as brownish or other generic labels. Identify the value range first, then identify the hue, then identify the intensity by its degree of neutralized-to-saturated hue, and you will find that you can easily identify any color you see.
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction I so appreciate your teaching! Thank you ❣️ for showing me how to observe tone differences and how to soften edges to create atmosphere.
An amazing and really great professional clear explanation. Thanks a million for your time to explain with patience, passion and dedication. I love to complement my beginning career as a profeso artist with your tips. Greetings from Mexico City Diane!
wow! I've been struggling for ages with distance and atmospheric perspective and you just made a HUGE lightbulb go off. such a simple way to look at it and yet it had eluded me for a long time! thank you so much for your explanation and so many other "quick tips". Like others have said you have a perfect way of saying what to do but also why! thank you again :D

Very nice info regarding value contrast, one thing i want to ask about the term Chalky looks or Chalky painting , please describe when you feel free. Thanks. 💗 from Pakistan.
I appreciate your style of teaching. I have taken a workshop where they basically have you paint a copy of the artists painting. It was very frustrating. I much prefer learning how to observe the characteristics in order to create the illusion of three dimensionality in a painting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
7/28/2021 USA Grandpa Bill: Oh my. I just compared my value contrast to you and I became transparent. Whew. I'll have to sprinkle some dust on me just to be seen. It's okay. I have plenty here, but no gold, so I can't match you. Bless your heart.

That term "chalky" is one that painters often use when white has been overmixed in a color area and appears muddy.
Your explanations are so clear and well thought out.
Thanks, Rachel! And thanks, also, for being both a subscriber and a member!
