Hmm. I am from Germany too and have completely different experiences. Where I travel, trains are typically very clean. That being said, our trains are not from DB (Deutsche Bahn), but instead a private operator
They can really be that bad? I spent two months in Germany and found the trains perfectly clean most of the time, of course with a few bits of trash here and there, but very rarely. I rode bwegt and the Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn in BW, the Berlin S-Bahn and U-Bahn, and RE/RB/ICE services in Hessen, Thuringen and Berlin.
Smack the bottom of the underground seats and see the amount of dust and dirt come off them and then tell me there clean obviously not deep cleaned and hygienic plus the floors will have all sorts on them even when it’s not visible dirt is there all the time
On a trip to London with my kids, we were near the tunnel entrance watching mice running round on the track. The station announcer came over the public address "please keep away from the tunnel entrance, if you want to look at the wildlife, go the London Zoo".
Wow. I knew that some cleaning was done, but never to the extent of what is picked up, scraped off and swept up in the tunnels. I've always respected clean up crews, but this lends to a deeper respect for the Underground teams. I live in Canada, but every time I visit London, I've noticed the increase of free newspapers littering the carriages. Is there a particular reason, especially in our digital world, that these free newspapers are so readily available and necessary in/around Underground stations? Thank you for this excellent video!
@@ds1868 Sorry, but that is not the point of my question. We too used to have them at entrances to our transit. But, since not allowing them near transit entrances any more, it has drastically reduced newspaper litter to a nil and lessened work for the cleanup crews. @@IIII2IIII Which Canadian city stopped allowing newspapers at transit stations? The STM entered into an exclusive agreement with the publisher of 24 Hours in 2011 allowing for the distribution of their papers in STM stations, which caused Metro to stop publishing in Montreal. In Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Halifax, Metro tried rebranding as StarMetro in 2018 before exiting these markets in 2019 due to a decline in print advertising. 24 Hours stopped publishing in Gatineau (2008), followed by Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa (2013), then the Toronto and Vancouver editions were bought by TorStar (pubilisher of competing Metro/StarMetro) in 2017. I was shocked to see upholstered seating on London trains. In New York City all the seating is hard plastic, which is much more difficult to vandalize.

I always like to think that everyone has good qualities. Then, I remember there are people who don't believe in equality and think they're doing good by letting cleaners pick up their newspapers, saying, 'that's what people below me want to do.' They only pick up your mess because other individuals will see it and think, 'why do we even pay for tickets?' There are bins on the platforms, throw away your own rubbish like a responsible human.
They should design everything to be capable of being spray-washed. In and out. Have one train that just sprays the tunnels. Of course you’d need lots of drain plumbing but it sure sounds cheaper and better in the long run.

Londoners just don't seem to care. There's an attitude that someone else will pick it up, it's not my responsibility. In the small town I now live in, people take their Metro newspapers with them to stick in their own recycling bin.
Im guessing the cause of more mess is the lack of bins on london tubes. they should either stop giving out free newspapers or just get the newspaper companies to pay for screens to read the news off of
They need a track mounted machine with an industrial vacuum. That would be much more efficient and effective. They would still need men running hoses but it would certainly work better than little hand brooms.

I was always told by my parents, when I was little, to bring my rubbish home if there wasn't a bin available nearby when I was out. I got a hefty wallop if I didn't comply!
It's illegal to eat and drink in Delhi Metro
Who on earth would travel on it let alone eat Yuck !!!!
@@blissy1 maybe dharavi and slums in India is yuck but Delhi Metro is 2nd most clean metro network in the world. Search it
In some Asian countries you're banned from taking stinky foodstuffs on public transport. Durian fruit is one example. I haven't been able to use public transport for some years now but when I was able to, I hated the smell of food wrappings and drinks cans.
@@blissy1 Not me‼️😁😁😁
2:43 gross, poor train🙁
On the Chicago's CTA, you are not allowed to eat on it.
i heard they dont put bins on trains because they could have dangerous things inside them. however, i have also heard of transparent materials such as some glass and plastics
It has been a myth to me how trains, benches and other places can be so filthy and littered. i do not leave things behind me and bins are never too far away. I would be very pleasantly surprised whenever i see a train with very clean floor and seat cushions which r not "grey". Yes they exist. 😆
And people say that the NYC subway is the only disgusting transit in the world
mbta is so much worse.
Free newspapers are available right now in 2023. This is an old video they don’t use the train wash at Stratford depot anymore as it’s not working and they say it doesn’t clean properly, they fill up chemical in a bucket and use a brush to clean outside, they also don’t mop the train like that, you do use a mop to wet the floor with chemical then a scrubbing machine is used to scrub every carriage. In order it’s the floor pick up rubbish, looking for chewing gum and cleaning that, hovering all the seats, while an interior team wipes down surfaces, then the floor team wets the floor with a mop using chemicals on all the carriages then one floor person uses a scrubbing machine in all the carriages after this the interior team throw water in the carriage they are working in to remove chemicals and get rid of excess water, the floor team use a special hover to suck away remaining water, after this every1 cleans the outside using a bucket full of chemical using a brush but sometimes this is done at the beginning and finally the floor team polish the floor twice.
Every train cleaner has had to overcome the last train over the weekend...Locally known as "The vomit express" lol
Wow these guys work so hard.
I often ride Moscow metro really late into night and see little to no trash either in trains(which are not even quick-cleaned during the day) and on platforms. The only times I saw a credible amount of litter were right after huge football games. I guess we orcs in Mordor here are really built differently.
25 years in a Gulag with 50 lashes with a bull whip is the reason .Don't think we don’t know .
"A thorough cleaning job from top to bottom," meanwhile the seats have probably never been deep cleaned for decades.
I'm a coach cleaner. Please stop leaving trash behind there's a trash can on the platform not hard not hard at all. Also diapers why just why.
Compared to the TTC trains in Toronto these trains are so small and narrow, I don't like the way the ceilings slope in so low.
BART here in California could use a team like that!
Actually impressed with the train cleaning but no mention of the seats, do they get any form of cleaning?
i went on multiple lines of the tube just a few days ago and i hardly saw any rubbish. a wrapper or two at most
I'm baffled why don't have plastic or metal seats instead of cloth ones. There's some proper disgusting people on the tube, seen people shit, puke etc. Nasty business!
we have cloth seats on some of our subway trains on the mbta, and i absolutely refuse to sit because i can just assume theyve never been washed
because londoners complain, they cant even bear class 700 seats which have decent comfort
it blows my mind how they can stand up right?!?!?!?!?! as a 6 foot person i've even had troubles getting in without banging my head to something
lol
I thought cleaning inside the interior was the hardest part. I never understood it included the tunnels. Whatever dirt in the cars is easily visible in comparison on what lies in the tunnels. Wow.
I was thinking maybe they by this time came up with a technology that spray, sucks and blow dry everything clean. But instead seeing them clean like they did back in decades past shows how far we have not come.
But because we dealing with third rail instead of electrical canary lines, than this is the best way it can be done.

@@qolspony I did some shifts at Stratford Market depot so I know. Even the staff is different.
It's about time to mete out fines to commuters who are eating or littering within the trains. Trust me, it will work. In Singapore, nobody would dare to even eat in a train, knowing that he/she will have to pay a hefty sum of fine, if being caught in the act.
What about the seats? never disinfected! what about replacing them for plastic ones? I hate carpet.

Of course you’d need lots of drain plumbing but it sure sounds cheaper and better in the long run.

they did (and iirc still do) have tunnel cleaning trains, but idk if they actually use them
Some people are absolutely disgusting and gross and couldn't care less.
Londoners just don't seem to care. There's an attitude that someone else will pick it up, it's not my responsibility. In the small town I now live in, people take their Metro newspapers with them to stick in their own recycling bin.
What is this documentary called? And are there more full episodes?

thought he was gonna say trying to do
Horrible job, cleaning the tracks, all that poisonous dust.
You don’t clean tracks you clean trains lol.
@@Truth_Seeker1 What does the trains runs on your arse.
The problem with public transport is that the public catch it!
Im guessing the cause of more mess is the lack of bins on london tubes. they should either stop giving out free newspapers or just get the newspaper companies to pay for screens to read the news off of
Free newspapers only good for one thing. The cats litter tray.
and for when children paint
Is there any information on the original source of this video and importantly the date this was filmed and released?
I used to work as a fluffer...though my responsibilities were very different to this. I think I've been shafted.
I haven’t been the underground for over 20 years and have no plans to. I drive to London if I visit my family.
250 miles = 2200 days to clean the lot. Any given stretch gets cleaned once every six years. Is it any wonder the grime is legendary?
What a name... Fluffer LOLOLOL
What year was this
They need a track mounted machine with an industrial vacuum. That would be much more efficient and effective. They would still need men running hoses but it would certainly work better than little hand brooms.
I’m more surprised that they weren’t using the sepelios petzl helmets when on track
Free newspapers?
This documentary must be at least 15 years old
I’d say it’s from 06-07
Tells the story of society today.
Yup!! 🎉
London denizens have surely become non aesthetics...
I always thought that was the stench eminating from all the rotten human beings in the financial district.
Love these videos
UK people still read news paper in this smartphone age.
This is from the 2000s
Curious, I live in the city of São Paulo, Brazil and our metro is clean. users don't usually throw garbage in the wagons #carlinhoscolumbia
It’s so disgusting that people can’t take their own rubbish away some people just don’t care about it and they have to call the cleaners
We don't have any underground tunnels besides the City Loop on the Melbourne train network which is only 3 stations
So massive respect to the LU fluffers Whoo
The only thing ive left on tge tube is a free newspaper. People are disgusting I never drop litter ever. Put it in your pocket or bag till you find a bin. Do these vile ppl.throw food and rubbish on their floor at home. I doubt it. 🤢
The thought of consuming anything whilst in the tube beggars belief
2:38 warning for emetophobia people which is a phobia of vomit im a person with emetophobia and warning for 1:21
Ive always thought, if the seat on the tube were anywhere else, you'd probably wouldn't sit on it due to the state of it...
I used to go out on Friday nighta.... I have no idea what Im doing watching this at 12:30am .Friday ... where did my life go..
Why are people surprised at the rubbish that is left on the underground? You only have too look at the streets in London. Where nobody appears too notice the rubbish on the pavements. Let's face it, the British have never been know has a very tidy race. I remember the time when our son who was working on the Brighton too London trains. Had some very posh lady complaining too him, about how disgusting the train was with all the rubbish lying around. He said too her ,do you think that we throw all this around before we start the train. All this has been left by so called intelligent people. Who actually are morons.
They have the old moquette
Congrats to the cleaners
It would help if the trains actually had bins !
I’m guessing that maybe it’s a fire hazard given to how the system operates. There might not be enough time to empty the bins enough.
Warsaw metro has only two linę, but is very clean and safe, greetings from medival Poland
i used to work on the underground, since the Metro paper was introduced it has caused more problems with rubbish. the other problem is some of the geneneral public of 2023. was not like this in the 60s
Damn shout out to all the London Underground workers
i was eating
no need for that zoom in :,)
What about adding trash cans on the train itself?
apparently people used to hide bombs in those so they were removed but i just heard that from someone else and I don’t know if its true
And here I am annoyed when I see a trash once in a while on a bus
Free newspapers? People still read newspapers? When was this video made? 1977?
Definitely looks old. I'd say like 2005.
Before 2005 for sure
