Really excellent tips. This is very helpful to have mouth position walked through so slowly and thoroughly. I've been practicing for a few months and have problems with airiness and bad tone and soreness from contorting my mouth and jaw. After revisiting these basics and practicing with your methods for a half hour I already have marked improvement. Especially informative was explaining how the bottom lip contributes to the blocking. Thanks Jp & Stefany.

I have only seen a couple of your videos and so far you are my favorite harmonica teacher. The others don't explain how to hold your mouth very well. Nor do they go over the notes like you do. I'm also a visual learner so the dry erase board helps

When I play for more that 20 seconds the lips dry and it's harder to move the harmica, this causes me to play wrong notes.
    Any suggestions? 😊

I am practising harmonica for couple of weeks but wasn't getting a single note properly. I watched this video and I tried what you have suggested and wow suddenly I am getting a really good clean note because of the tilting technique and I loved the sound so much that it made me play the harmonica for hours. Thank you so much!!

Hi JP! I'm a new (just picked one up today) harmonica player and have a few questions for you. 1. What are your thoughts on the Fender Blues DeVille harmonica? 2. I saw in one of your other videos that oh we're talking about bending the notes, do you think this is something I can accomplish with more/less difficulty with this brand? 3. I have a pretty big overbite, do you think this will affect my ability to play the harmonica well?

I can do this quite well, but I have a really major problem. No matter what I try, my lips will stick when sliding up and down. Decreasing and increasing the pressure and hardness of the lips doesn't help. And I can't curl my lips enough to have only the inside lip in contact.
It should be easy and relaxing right? So what am I doing wrong

Let me preface this by saying I've been blowing Harp since the early 70's and I have taught privately.
At no time did you ever explain why this technique is useful and or what it can acheive. I started my musical life as a Brass Player so I had the benefit of a few years of training in breathing, and I mean proper breath support, articulatation, tonguing, etc. so I know that when you use this technique the jaw drops, the cavity of the airway opens wider and as the lips come into play your options are many; hard bends, driving overblows, wavering vibratos and so much more. I know I'm preaching to the choir here.
@ 5:01 when you were explaining how to do it for about the 8th time I almost lost patience totally and dumped your video. @ about 6:30 you sort of eluded or pointed in a direction but not really. Everytime you explained HOW I was looking for you to come through with WHY, but it never happened. I mean no offense in any of this. You're obviously an experienced knowledgeable player and I found you very likeable, I just think you could tweek your teaching method by coming to a point with every single lesson.
Good luck and keep 'em coming.

Sorry JP but Lee Oskars are mediocre, overpriced harps with no resonance. They give a bigger dealer discount than Hohner which is why you hardly see Hohners in music shops (UK anyway) any more. And you can use a G harp to play easily in A minor, Peace.

8 minutes of wasted time. This is 30 seconds of information. Too much time repeating himself. Says the same thing over and over again. How many times can you say the same thing. Come closer so you can here the same thing again. Wait, I have another 30 lines of telling you the same thing over and over again.
