The video was a well-made video, but when it comes to real-world testing to see the limits of what this unit can actually do, extensive unbiased testing, there are much better videos out there than this one. Electronicsnmore's testing video for the 1500 is the best I've seen.
*A quiet **Generater.Systems** , love the dual fuel capabilities, camper is 50 amp but the adapter helps and found it still handles the load. Haven't taken a camping trip yet, that's in a couple of weeks. Will see how well it does over a long weekend.*

The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

Nice thing about the Jackery solar panels is you can plug in USB devices directly to the solar panel and charge them their instead of on the Jackery itself. I also have a Jackery 1500 - IT WORKS

Really great review - I wouldn't be surprised if you're an engineer, the way you get right to the technical specifications. The tech IS important in this case - it's all about tech because if a person gets the wrong watt hours unit, not enough ports or whatever - the system will be a pain or not work at all.
The only thing I do not like about Jackery power stations is that they use Li-ion batteries (which up until recently was the only viable type of battery) which do not do well being at high charge (more than 50%) for long periods of time. I would be happy if they would start using LiFePO4 which a far as I know do well at 80% to 90% charge making them well suited to emergency backup power use. The one I have works great for camping. But I feel I have to store it at 50% prevent battery degradation.
I have two of the Jackery 1000 wh power stations, and two Bluetti power stations of over 2000 wh each. I don't travel (although I lived in a 1956 VW Window Van from 1974 to 1976 when I bought the place where I now live in Southern California in a remote section of the Mojave Desert). I was born in 1937 in a poor family, and my early education was next to nothing. Your reviews of the Bluetti, and the Jackery power stations is right on. Both these companies make superb products that an old simple minded man can use with confidence. My house has power outages every year during the middle of summer when the temp. is plus 110 each day. I got tired of throwing out rotted food, and especially couldn't stand to see my two old dogs suffer from the heat when the power was out. The marvelous technology of this time period solved the problem for me. Thanks for your truly superior video blogs. If only the Internet and marvelous UA-cam had been around in my childhood, I actually may have amounted to a little something....
I bring the Jackery 240 car camping with a 100 watt solar panel and it works to keep my dc travel fridge running. It is nice and lite and doesn't take up too much room.
The Jackery Explorer 1500 uses Lithium Ion battery power so it is more sensitive to cold and hot but the advantages of it are many other than that. Even with the SLA (Sealed Lead Acid instead of Lithium) power banks, you shouldn't be using them in hot and cold like that or you'll wear them out quick anyway. The Lithium means it's about 1/3 the weight of comparable Wh (Watt Hour) SLA. However, comparable Wh SLA will only provide instantaneous and continuous of about 1/4 of that Lithium ion! The Lithium can charge about 4 times faster and keeps its charge practically endlessly as opposed to SLAs needing to be charged every 1-2 months. So, the Lithium is amazing but somewhat more temperamental for extreme cold and hot. Keep in mind that, if the unit goes bad, you usually can pull the battery (with BMS/computer safety protection) which is most of the cost of the unit and still use that battery! Note, when not using it for more than 4 months, it should only be half charged, 40-60%, not 90-100. Oh yes, and keep it always charged at 30-95%, don't let it get below 30 or it suffers much faster deterioration and same above 95 which is about the same for SLAs actually.
We have had the Jackery 1000 for the past year; has been used while camping as well as a quick fix during our frequent power outages to plug in the modem/router/tv (no cell service at the house) vs having to break out the gas generator; we also picked up two of their panels, but just like you, the sun in northern new england is far from a sure thing. Have found two panels take pretty much all day to fully charge the battery, on a nice day, and with moving the panels to follow the sun. It has been a game changer while camping though; overall pleased with the purchase and would do it again.
It sounds good. I love how portable power stations are being noticed more. I love how the screen gives you a time for how long the power will last depending on how fast you are using it aswell. Very handy

However, I am adding a refrigerator to my van and I will need a larger power station. I had considered a Bluetti model but since I have a Jackery and love its reliability, the 1000 or 1500 are great options.
I purchased the Jackery 1500 with my own money also and have used it daily for about 2 months now. I agree with your assessment, but my only gripe is the proprietary input connectors to charge the unit. For the 1500 and 2000, Jackery decided to change the plug which was a 8mm and now I need a couple of adapters to use MC4 solar panels. I use it as a home backup unit and being 70+ years old, the massive handle comes in handy. 30 lbs may not be a problem for you yet!
@@DM-mz7zh I might be wrong, but my understanding is that the 500 charges, are the number of power cycles (from empty to full), and modern batteries are pretty good at changing which battery cells are being used (to prolong the life). So you should be able to be able to charge it quite a few more times than 500. And (again, I think) batteries (like SSDs) usually have a few cells that you can't see that they'll use to make the battery live a bit longer (E.G. when your phone says that you have 0% battery, there might really be 1-5%). And when reputable manufacturers (not that I know anything about Jackery) claim E.G: 500, typically that means that their worst cases, during testing, are above 500.
It's not charging in low temperatures as a safety feature due to it's physics/chemistry. If Li-ion battery is charged in low temperatures and then reheated by surrounding environment or due to active use, it becomes overcharged which will at least shorten life of battery and have high risk of fire or even explosion.

This is a great review and I love that it is not biased. We tend to lose power frequently in the winter months. Your mention of it not charging in cold temperatures gives me a lot of pause. Is there a way to extend the cables, so that I could store the battery in my house while the panels are set up outside to charge the system?
I have 2 of the 240 and 160 work absolutely fine. 1 100 watt solar panels all I need runs the fridge even my pellet smoker if I take it with me. I could have saved some money just getting the 500 how ever in my Subaru Forester With limited space I leave one plugged into to car and fridge into that one and can easily store the other 2. In Cali plenty of sun. I can camp in the shade and set solar charging to the other ones. Jackery hands down work the best for my set up.
One thing the BLUETTI has that is better. It uses the LiFePO4 Battery which can be recharged 3500 plus times as apposed to 500 like the conventional lion battery.

Me too. Procrastinated on the thousand, thought it was too much. Figure 800 would be good if it could get down that low. I was considering two other batteries.. But jackery does a 15% sale the last three days. 850 the last couple days on a sale. Figure that's the best it would do.
I do this with a Jackery 240 and it works very well. I haven't tried running many things with a high power draw at the same time, but it does conveniently add 5 outlets and 3 usb ports.
Good review and the unit seems to be a good product. With that written, only 500 cycles on the battery? In comparison the Bluetti 2000 has 3,500 life cycles at only ~$300- more retail. To me, the only drawback to the Bluetti is the weight at 60-lbs. She is a beast! LOL. Now the Bluetti 1500 has 2,500 life cycles and is around $1K and weighs in at 38-lbs. However, the number of AC outlets is only two. For me, life cycles means a lot. 73 & God Bless
@@markhaugen9592 It is 500 cycles to 80% capacity. So you most likely have some loss in capacity that you may not notice over the years. Put a new one side by side and you could likely see the difference.
That's still almost two years of daily full discharges, and it would still have 80% capacity. I agree, more "cycle life" would be better, but I don't use these things daily, much less discharge them to 0 daily. Say you take them down to 0 once per week, that's 10 years to 80 percent. I guess weigh your usage vs chemistry/cost, for most I don't think it's an issue.
Like any other power station - it depends on a person's wants and needs - I my self prefer the Titan power bank as it comes with a 30 amp plug, 6 a/c plugs as well as d/c plugs. It also has expandable battery packs and can power the A/C as well as other items in my rv.
Great review, I purchased the Jackery 1500 and am very happy with it. I’ve been told that you shouldn’t charge it at the same time something is plugged in and it’s discharging, that it could shorten its life. What do you think about that? It would be nice to have a powered cooler plugged in while also charging it when driving this way when you stop the power cooler still has power to it but no drain on your truck battery.
Yeah, both those are such small loads, I can't imagine it would be an issue. Now, pulling 1800 watts and pumping in 600 watts, that would be more stress, but still probably not an issue unless done regularly.

I have the Dometic 95 DZ and use Jackery 1500 w and get around 8 hrs before I need to recharge it with solar panels. The Jackery 1500 w charges much faster since you’re able to use 4 solar panels! I’m really pleased with the 1500 w instead of the 1000 w!
Great no nonsense review Jackery are onto a winner with these products a alternative to a noisy generator. Starting to sell here in the UK will be getting one soon.
IMHO Jackery needs to put out a 3 - 5 kwh range product to stay competitive. Ecoflow now has the 3600 and Bluetti has a 5000 wh product, both of these are expandable with extra batteries connected through the same inverter/charger. They also both use LiFePO4 batteries, which gives them several thousand cycles before dropping to 80% of their original capacity, while all of the Jackery models are still using NMC batteries with about 500 cycles in them to 80%. Jackery's products were amazing a couple years ago, but the market waits for no one, and the 3 - 5 kwh range with lithium iron phosphate batteries is a space they need to compete in, if they don't want to be left behind.

I have one of the Explorer 1000 units (1,002 Wh). It can run my 9 year old, 20 cubic foot Kenmore fridge for 16 hours straight. I believe the Explorer 1500 (1,488 Wh) would be able to power a similar fridge for about 24 hours. Keep in mind newer fridges are more efficient (longer run-time); older fridges are less efficient (shorter run-time). Of course utilizing solar panels would greatly extend your run-time; depending on available sunlight. Hope this helps. :)
If you're concerned about food spoilage, you really need a 12V refrigerator. Dometic is IMHO the best manufacture, followed by Engel, but also, Iceco is a budget-friendly brand that uses the same compressor (heart of a refrigerator) as the Dometic for around half the price. With a 12V fridge, 100W solar panel, and a power station (500Wh) or better, you can essentially run your 12V fridge indefinitely. They will also work well with power outages, acting as an UPS. Leave the Power Station plugged into 120V AC power and the fridge plugged into the 12V DC output. When the power shuts off, no problem, the fridge is still running and the power station is at a full charge.
Sounds like a really nice device. I've been looking into a device like this as an all in one batter + inverter + charge controller + regulator for an off grid cabin I've been building. I'm in the South West, so I've already got solar panels ready to go. As for the charging thing, you really don't want to charge lithium ion batteries below freezing because they become explosive. That's why most motorcyclists in northern parts of the world don't use lithium batteries in their motorcycles.

Personally, the way things are going, I'd prefer 4 USB-C and 2 USB-A ports. I think 4 (or more?), more spaced out AC-ports wouldn't be a bad idea. On another note, while I don't watch you very often, I really appreciate you and how you make your videos! Edit: I think I'd like to see their charging ports with USB-C rather than, what might be, proprietary “barrel connectors”. Unless they exceed the 240Watt, that USB-C supports, then I'm OK with the form factor, especially if they aren't proprietary.
I have a Jackery 240 and have been very happy with it as well. It handles my essential needs like powering my CPAP, charing my phone and backup battery. Sadly it will not work with my Nespresso machine. It was no surprise though since it was stated it would not work with coffee machines.

I understood from their website that passthrough charging - ie charging while using the unit - will likely damage the battery. Have you noticed any issues since you posted this video? I ordered two 1500s & have noticed some discrepancies between the units since I have been testing them this past week. Yes, they're very quiet. They run my full sized house fridge for 32 hours max. But my other one went only 26 hours. Like I said, discrepancies I am noticing. Their customer service has been excellent so far, and I did get an extra year warranty - 3 total - plus 30% off for the units selling with 4 solar panels each. Can't use the panels yet due to winter weather, however.

I don’t have a Jackery but am looking into getting one, but the power bank I have only has three plugs. I solved that problem by plugging in a power bar with a surge protector, this way I have more than enough outlets to charge just about anything I need.

Do you have an Inverter running off of your truck for A/C power as an option? I put a Krieger 2000 Watts Power Inverter on my truck and I really enjoy that as an option when out in the woods.
Now we just need a side by side with these power stations like you do with tents. Which one would be best for a Van conversion. I guess it would come down to how much space and how much 110 devices you are wanting to run
I'd add a few extension cords both for the ac and the USB just some short one to three foot cords to make spacing out items plugged in easier without having a huge pile of cords.
They do that by charging the battery below the full capacity and stopping before the batteries are completely discharged. You get way more cycles by doing that and that is how electric cars do it to get the batteries to last.
The bluetti one uses a different battery chemistry to get its recharge cycle rating, possibly in combination with but certainly not solely due to undercharging it. It's lithium iron phosphate based unit. They run at lower voltages (3.3 vs 3.7) and don't have the same energy density as lithium cobalt oxide batteries but in exchange they're more durable (more recharge cycles) and safer (don't burst into flames when damaged). So basically this means you need a heavier/bigger box to get the same amount of power as you would from the types of batteries most of these power packs use. In exchange you get a safer unit that will last longer. Very worth the trade-off imo, at least as far as truck camping goes, though obviously if you're toting it somewhere by hand you might prefer the lighter option
Yes but the weight is double at 30Kg (60.5 lbs). It is too heavy for camping. Jackery will wait new technology to keep the weight below 45lbs for their entire lineup. So no LifePo4 at jackery.
Question for a new guy, if you go to 500 cycles or a number of years, what happens to the device? Do you have a replacement battery? Throw into garbage?

Oddly specific question: I have an old E240 and a 100W Panel - apparently for this newer line (1500/2000) the 8mm connector has apparently changed, so here's my question: Do you know if the paralleling adapters fit the old 8m connectors? As in, I'm thinking to charge this one via a panel, I might just have to plug it into the paralleling adapter first...? Great video, at any rate.
I actually emailed Jackery about that exact set up. They say that it can do pass through charging, but they don't recommend it. I wanted to do the same thing you did, run a refrigerator with the Jackery plugged into the car. When I paid that much money for the thing I just didn't want to hear, "Yeah, you can do it, but it might fry your device."
I have a jackery power station in my work shed, runs all power tool's no problem at all and never seems to cutt out on me when it's being used under heavy load. Brilliant bit of kit 👌 I also have a,, ECO-WORTHY 84Wh Portable Power Station, Solar Generator with 18W Solar Panel, Flashlights, that I have hooked up for lighting, thta also is a brilliant bit of kit. Definitely worth a review if u haven't don't so on this channel yet.

Get a 1foot cord for the camera battery so you don’t have that problem it blocking ports great video keep up the work!

The usb ports are limited by space and you can get an adapter extension with more ports for more usb ports real cheap. Good review!

This is a great review and I love that it is not biased. We tend to lose power frequently in the winter months. Your mention of it not charging in cold temperatures gives me a lot of pause. Is there a way to extend the cables, so that I could store the battery in my house while the panels are set up outside to charge the system?
I have 2 of the 240 and 160 work absolutely fine. 1 100 watt solar panels all I need runs the fridge even my pellet smoker if I take it with me. I could have saved some money just getting the 500 how ever in my Subaru Forester With limited space I leave one plugged into to car and fridge into that one and can easily store the other 2. In Cali plenty of sun. I can camp in the shade and set solar charging to the other ones. Jackery hands down work the best for my set up.

One thing the BLUETTI has that is better. It uses the LiFePO4
Battery which can be recharged 3500 plus times as apposed to 500 like the conventional lion battery.

Me too. Procrastinated on the thousand, thought it was too much. Figure 800 would be good if it could get down that low. I was considering two other batteries.. But jackery does a 15% sale the last three days. 850 the last couple days on a sale. Figure that's the best it would do.

Nice review, have you tried plugging a power strip into one of the outlets to increase the number of gadgets you can use at one time?
I do this with a Jackery 240 and it works very well. I haven't tried running many things with a high power draw at the same time, but it does conveniently add 5 outlets and 3 usb ports.

ALL of these power generators are too expensive. Lithium Ion is too expensive. Solar panels are too expensive.
Good review and the unit seems to be a good product. With that written, only 500 cycles on the battery? In comparison the Bluetti 2000 has 3,500 life cycles at only ~$300- more retail. To me, the only drawback to the Bluetti is the weight at 60-lbs. She is a beast! LOL. Now the Bluetti 1500 has 2,500 life cycles and is around $1K and weighs in at 38-lbs. However, the number of AC outlets is only two. For me, life cycles means a lot. 73 & God Bless
LiFePO4 is awesome but, yeah...very hefty!
They say a I phone has 500 charge cycles. My I 10 has been charged almost every day for 3 years. Who knows
@@markhaugen9592 It is 500 cycles to 80% capacity. So you most likely have some loss in capacity that you may not notice over the years. Put a new one side by side and you could likely see the difference.
That's still almost two years of daily full discharges, and it would still have 80% capacity. I agree, more "cycle life" would be better, but I don't use these things daily, much less discharge them to 0 daily. Say you take them down to 0 once per week, that's 10 years to 80 percent. I guess weigh your usage vs chemistry/cost, for most I don't think it's an issue.
Bluetti 1500 only has 1000w inverter, vs. basically a 2000w inverter on the jackery 1500. Otherwise, the bluetti is a great unit.

Like any other power station - it depends on a person's wants and needs - I my self prefer the Titan power bank as it comes with a 30 amp plug, 6 a/c plugs as well as d/c plugs. It also has expandable battery packs and can power the A/C as well as other items in my rv.

I’ve been told that you shouldn’t charge it at the same time something is plugged in and it’s discharging, that it could shorten its life. What do you think about that? It would be nice to have a powered cooler plugged in while also charging it when driving this way when you stop the power cooler still has power to it but no drain on your truck battery.

Yeah, both those are such small loads, I can't imagine it would be an issue. Now, pulling 1800 watts and pumping in 600 watts, that would be more stress, but still probably not an issue unless done regularly.

Luke, you mentioned that you powered a Dometic fridge for almost 2 weeks. Was that purely off the fully charged Jackery 1500 without any additional charging? Keep up the great unbiased reviews.
I have the Dometic 95 DZ and use Jackery 1500 w and get around 8 hrs before I need to recharge it with solar panels. The Jackery 1500 w charges much faster since you’re able to use 4 solar panels! I’m really pleased with the 1500 w instead of the 1000 w!

IMHO Jackery needs to put out a 3 - 5 kwh range product to stay competitive. Ecoflow now has the 3600 and Bluetti has a 5000 wh product, both of these are expandable with extra batteries connected through the same inverter/charger. They also both use LiFePO4 batteries, which gives them several thousand cycles before dropping to 80% of their original capacity, while all of the Jackery models are still using NMC batteries with about 500 cycles in them to 80%. Jackery's products were amazing a couple years ago, but the market waits for no one, and the 3 - 5 kwh range with lithium iron phosphate batteries is a space they need to compete in, if they don't want to be left behind.

I have one of the Explorer 1000 units (1,002 Wh). It can run my 9 year old, 20 cubic foot Kenmore fridge for 16 hours straight. I believe the Explorer 1500 (1,488 Wh) would be able to power a similar fridge for about 24 hours. Keep in mind newer fridges are more efficient (longer run-time); older fridges are less efficient (shorter run-time). Of course utilizing solar panels would greatly extend your run-time; depending on available sunlight. Hope this helps. :)
If you're concerned about food spoilage, you really need a 12V refrigerator. Dometic is IMHO the best manufacture, followed by Engel, but also, Iceco is a budget-friendly brand that uses the same compressor (heart of a refrigerator) as the Dometic for around half the price. With a 12V fridge, 100W solar panel, and a power station (500Wh) or better, you can essentially run your 12V fridge indefinitely.
They will also work well with power outages, acting as an UPS. Leave the Power Station plugged into 120V AC power and the fridge plugged into the 12V DC output. When the power shuts off, no problem, the fridge is still running and the power station is at a full charge.

Sounds like a really nice device. I've been looking into a device like this as an all in one batter + inverter + charge controller + regulator for an off grid cabin I've been building. I'm in the South West, so I've already got solar panels ready to go. As for the charging thing, you really don't want to charge lithium ion batteries below freezing because they become explosive. That's why most motorcyclists in northern parts of the world don't use lithium batteries in their motorcycles.

Personally, the way things are going, I'd prefer 4 USB-C and 2 USB-A ports. I think 4 (or more?), more spaced out AC-ports wouldn't be a bad idea.
On another note, while I don't watch you very often, I really appreciate you and how you make your videos!
Edit: I think I'd like to see their charging ports with USB-C rather than, what might be, proprietary “barrel connectors”. Unless they exceed the 240Watt, that USB-C supports, then I'm OK with the form factor, especially if they aren't proprietary.
I have a Jackery 240 and have been very happy with it as well. It handles my essential needs like powering my CPAP, charing my phone and backup battery. Sadly it will not work with my Nespresso machine. It was no surprise though since it was stated it would not work with coffee machines.

I understood from their website that passthrough charging - ie charging while using the unit - will likely damage the battery. Have you noticed any issues since you posted this video? I ordered two 1500s & have noticed some discrepancies between the units since I have been testing them this past week.
Yes, they're very quiet. They run my full sized house fridge for 32 hours max. But my other one went only 26 hours. Like I said, discrepancies I am noticing.
Their customer service has been excellent so far, and I did get an extra year warranty - 3 total - plus 30% off for the units selling with 4 solar panels each. Can't use the panels yet due to winter weather, however.

I don’t have a Jackery but am looking into getting one, but the power bank I have only has three plugs. I solved that problem by plugging in a power bar with a surge protector, this way I have more than enough outlets to charge just about anything I need.
Have you ACTUALLY tried to charge it with solar and two power bricks or you're just relaying manufacturer claims?

Do you have an Inverter running off of your truck for A/C power as an option? I put a Krieger 2000 Watts Power Inverter on my truck and I really enjoy that as an option when out in the woods.

I'd add a few extension cords both for the ac and the USB just some short one to three foot cords to make spacing out items plugged in easier without having a huge pile of cords.
500 cycles of charge seems low? I thought the Blueyetti offered a lot more charge cycles.
They do that by charging the battery below the full capacity and stopping before the batteries are completely discharged. You get way more cycles by doing that and that is how electric cars do it to get the batteries to last.

The bluetti one uses a different battery chemistry to get its recharge cycle rating, possibly in combination with but certainly not solely due to undercharging it. It's lithium iron phosphate based unit. They run at lower voltages (3.3 vs 3.7) and don't have the same energy density as lithium cobalt oxide batteries but in exchange they're more durable (more recharge cycles) and safer (don't burst into flames when damaged). So basically this means you need a heavier/bigger box to get the same amount of power as you would from the types of batteries most of these power packs use. In exchange you get a safer unit that will last longer. Very worth the trade-off imo, at least as far as truck camping goes, though obviously if you're toting it somewhere by hand you might prefer the lighter option
Yes but the weight is double at 30Kg (60.5 lbs). It is too heavy for camping. Jackery will wait new technology to keep the weight below 45lbs for their entire lineup. So no LifePo4 at jackery.
Question for a new guy, if you go to 500 cycles or a number of years, what happens to the device? Do you have a replacement battery? Throw into garbage?

Oddly specific question: I have an old E240 and a 100W Panel - apparently for this newer line (1500/2000) the 8mm connector has apparently changed, so here's my question: Do you know if the paralleling adapters fit the old 8m connectors? As in, I'm thinking to charge this one via a panel, I might just have to plug it into the paralleling adapter first...? Great video, at any rate.

3:26 YES< it will not Charge in Freezing temps, you can still USE the power from it...without damage.
Mine didn’t charge in 70 degree weather pure garbage maxed out at 30% would not charge any further .

I actually emailed Jackery about that exact set up. They say that it can do pass through charging, but they don't recommend it. I wanted to do the same thing you did, run a refrigerator with the Jackery plugged into the car. When I paid that much money for the thing I just didn't want to hear, "Yeah, you can do it, but it might fry your device."
