    I have been searching online for a quality detailed review by a UK based reviewer of this car and none have been close. The detail and presentation quality of this video is superb and exactly what I was looking for. A joy to watch as is the comparison video of the Crossland and Mokka. Thank you

    I had the pleasure today to drive a 1.2 automatic.
    Overall, I found it very nice to drive. The car seems very solid, silent and very spacious.
    The controls are all were you would expect them to be, and the navigation is located in the upper part of the dashboard (as opposed to the Kadjar, for example, where you need to take your eyes off the road to look at the navigation).
    The 1.2L petrol engine definitely does not make the Grandland a race car, but it is not that bad either, with good torque (we were 5 people in the car during the test drive, but no luggage).
    You have plenty of options to choose from, some of them really cool (like the 360 camera which is better than the Nissan QQ, IMO), yet you are not forced into some options if you want just part of a package.
    What I did not like was that there seemed to be a slight lag between when I floored it and when the acceleration started. Then there is also that glossy surface which you can leave a mark on really quick.
    But again, overall, I liked the car very much.

      Absolutely agree! The UK reviewers have already decided that as it's a Vauxhall its crap. Unless its Audi or BMW they are generally not interested, and damn with faint praise at best. I've driven the Grandland X 1.2 recently and thought it was very good indeed.

    Opel Grandland is basically a rebadged Peugeot 3008. Opel Grandland is even manufactured in Peugeot's factory in France. But at least Grandland has its own style design-wise, unlike those VW group cars who all look pretty much the same. VW's design is very unappealing. Grandland exterior looks very good, it looks less aggressive than 3008. But the interior is a big disappointment compared to 3008. 3008's interior is just so gorgeous. But on the plus side, Grandland has roomier leg room than 3008. Groupe PSA shows VW how to successfully execute different styles of SUV without making them look all the same. Good job PSA, good job Opel.

    • @raphaelmabo5014
      @raphaelmabo5014 6 років тому +5

      Rebadge = same car with a different badge. Vauxhalls are rebadged Opel's, a Vauxhall Mokka is same car as the Opel Mokka, just with a different badge, but the Grandland is not a rebadged Peugeot. Grandland shares plattform and drivetrain with other PSA-products (like the Peugeot 3008/5008, Citroën C4 Picasso/Grand Picasso and the coming DS7 Crossback and C5 Aircross) but these are not the same car - they differ in exterior and interior styling, seats, suspension, steering and equipment. Quite different feels, so not a rebadging of the same car. Calling Grandland a "rebadged Peugeot 3008" is a misuse of the word rebadge.

      @@autogefuehl except most of the cars Thomas is promoting do not have leather inside. Now-days most of the car manufacturers are using synthetic leather that is easy taken for animal skin, but has much better nature than animal skin. Car makers do not promote it often especially not in premium class, but for example even Porsche is using synthetic leather not the animal skin.
      As a side note, I dont understand the fuss around animal skin anyway, most of the first world is not vegan, and we are not holding cattle just for skin, skin is a by product of food industry, so what...

    3-cylinder on it's own is pushing the boundaries of the engine's efficiency ( and it's life in terms of service ) at that size segment I think. With the addition of the hybrid sometime 2018 would be a more ideal choice. Great look with the exterior and dash/cabin. Do hope PSA would take better care of the Opel brand than GM.

    • @ChaplainDMK
      @ChaplainDMK 4 роки тому

      You got any proof of that? I constantly hear that three cylinders are "pushing it", but never got any concrete proof of them being unreliable or not being up to what the average user will need them for - mostly country and city roads, with occasional longer trips on highways, probably doing between 10-15.000 kilometers per year.

    Would buy the diesel simply because 4 cylinders is better than 3. Reviewers from my country also said that the feel of the gear change is much better with the diesel.
    But I like the car overall.

    • @klackon1
      @klackon1 6 років тому +2

      ast5515: I have a Peugeot 3008 1.2L auto and it is a stunning engine: far better than I ever imagined. I have less than 2000 miles on mine but achieving 50.4 mpg on a combined urban/motorway journey of 200 miles. The gear changes are really good and I have no problems accelerating up to motorway speed from a slip road. It also accelerates well beyond 70 mph. The 3 cylinder engine sounds really throaty at times, much better than the 3 cylinder engine in my wife's VW Up.

    • @klackon1
      @klackon1 6 років тому

      Martin: I live on the edge of a small city and currenty get 37 - 38.6 mpg. That is obviously in stop/start traffic and 30 mph or less over a distance of about 4 miles. I am very pleased with the fuel consumption, as my BMW 520d only returned 54 mpg on the same 200 mile urban/motorway route I use, and about the same around the city.

    • @leonardkorn2347
      @leonardkorn2347 6 років тому

      pete draper well although Opel Grandland is basically a rebadged Peugeot 3008, it doesn't necessarily mean that their driving dynamism or fuel consumption will be exactly identical. But thanks for the info. It will be very useful when comparing the two cars ^^

      @klackon1 6 років тому

      Leonard Korn. I wasn't making that assertion: I was merely providing an example of what might be possible to those who believe they need a 1.6L petrol or 1.6/2.0L diesel engine.

    Ive had a few Vauxhall carsbin my lifetime Thomas, but unfortunately i think the latest models look dated in style.
    Im driving a Moka elite 1.4.Turbo just now, and it has been first class over the last two and a half year.
    But as im due to change my car, come the end of 2019. I won't be purchasing another Vauxhall car, this time around.
    Infact im seriously thinking of buying a Suzkui car, but haven't decided what model as yet.Having carried out due diligence on most cars, i now feel at my age (OAP) a Car like a Zuzuki would suit my needs ideally.
    Would like to hear others comment's, whether there positive or a negative nature.Thank you all.👍

    I think this car has a good value if you want to drive a 3008 in a cheaper manner, however I doubt I could live with this old fashioned outdated Opel interieur. The 1,2l three cylinder motor which I currently drive in the 2008 (THX autogefühl for the review which convinced me to buy that one) seems a little bit weak for this bigger type of car. Would definetely prefer the Diesel for this Grandland.

    I love the car, but I heard Vauxhalls are not reliable cars...also you save fuel by getting onto higher gears which have less revs...hence staying in lower gears consumes more fuel.

  • @supremeboy

    It is nice looking car but it has one big problem. Petrol engine selection has so weak options. Best they offer for this car is 96kw 1.2 Turbo engine with 10.9s to 100km/h acceleration. Thats so weak compared to other SUV in this segment. I would say this car has one of the worst engines of all SUV market. I understand it has 3 cylinders but come on. Even diesel engine is so weak 88kw?
    I went for Karoq yesterday and ordered 1.5 TSI that has 110kw and has 8.6s to 100km/h

    Hi Thomas, would you say that the french branded cars still suffer from the comments of the past such as bad electrics etc. I live in the UK and I'm 36 years old, but ever since being a teen, French cars always had a reputation for being unreliable in terms of car electrics. I don't know if this was ever true, but it's a common thing to say in UK. What do you think?

    • @autogefuehl

    • @fundiver198

      There were some problems in the past eg. with the Peugeot 307. However when more money is spend building a car, it can be made better. And the 3008, on which this vehicle is based, does not try to be the cheapest entry in the segment. So I would not be to worried, to be honest. But realistically I would also not expect PSA to reach Toyota like levels of reliability overnight. But seriously. Do you choose your girlfriend, because she is the most punctual? All the famous german brands have also had quality issues, if you really want to know the truth. And that does not stop people from buying them, because the products are though of as decirable.

      I would say that Opel and PSA has similar long term quality. They buy their parts from the same manufacturers (PSA and Opel owns together, since 2012, a company responsible for all purchases and logistics to their factories). I've never experienced PSA cars to have unreliable electrics, all things from electrical windows to radio and climate control has worked fine in my cars even in cold harsh winters. The reputation is from the 70's and 80's, the electronics is not an issue any more.

      Valeo, Faurecia, Plastic omnium... All these french firms are Big auto suppliers (Volkswagen-Audi, GM, Ford, Mercedes, FCA, Renault-Nissan...) www.faurecia.com/en/faurecia-equipped-mercedes-benz-s-class-interior-without-parallel-worldwide
      If Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, DS (and Now Opel & Vauxhall) were still unreliable since 90's they would be already dead and not ranked #2 and #3 in Europe.

    Blind Spot in Opel's real cars... warns earlier...
    This is cheap French technology, longer range to detect vehicles requires more expensive sensors and PSA wants to save money - and you as a customer get a worse car - that is the failure of PSA.
    And this is not the only technology PSA saved money on...

    • @Antoineforum

      Valeo (a french company) equip all General Motors vehicles with its blindspot detection system since 2007. Same supplier for PSA and GM (Opel).

      "Opels system detects cars when they are 3 meters Behind - 3008 - Grandland does not...
      Opel's warning for change of traffic lanes detects cars when they are 70 meters Behind."
      You have no reason to question what I have written.
      Peugeot does not support you.
