I've been in Thailand for a week. Samui, Tao, and now Phangan. I've gone from jet lag to sea sickness to food poisoning. I'm just reading my book until I "recover." Hopefully, I can enjoy Thailand more the next 4 weeks.
@chriz_the_wiz Happened on Sairee beach in Koh Tao. Calamari, chicken schnitzel, passion fruit panna cotta, maybe the papaya salad. I have no clue. Could have been ice 🧊. Sick all night, then had to check out and take a catamaran to Phangan. Ate a bagel after 36 hours. Old farts like me don't recover as quickly
This has been my fear since I started living here 20 years ago. "Idle hands make for the devil's work" or something like that. I am an introverted loner most of the time, but we have to see people from time to time, even if it is the worker at 7-11 or the people walking by at the coffee shop. I quite drinking because I knew where that was going. Sitting on a bar stool at 11AM, waiting for happy hours to begin. We need something to do with our time or we end-up going crazy. Any bar at noon in Pattaya tells the same sad story.
You hit the nail on the head with the “I just don’t want to”. Two weeks into my trip on my own I have met so many people and have had great talks with them. Talked to people from Brazil, Denmark, Canada , Singapore, so on and so on and compared thing to do in Town. I just avoid the usual “pattaya” type of entertainment and go for walks and talk to people. Have struck up conversations over dinner with people siting next to me who also shared what else to try on the menu. Having a great time (except the dentist pains).
It’s a dangerous place to be if you have to rely on others to make you whole I have been on my own for 5 years now and I’m the happiest I have ever been
Same. 3 years now. Being single is brilliant. I spent years working to save enough so I can spend the rest of my life doing nothing. Doing nothing is underrated.
If you're bored and without friends, you need hobbies. I never run out of things to do and that's without even leaving my apartment. You need meaningful interaction with other people from time to time, whether it's meeting up with people relating to a hobby, having a 1 on 1 muay thai session or thai lesson, maybe if you're younger you skate or ride a bike and find like minded people that way. Sometimes even a simple walk can spawn some interesting social interactions. There's thousands of different things but you need to go out into the world and seek it, these things seldom arrive on your doorstep.
You can’t drink. Simple. Stay out of bars. Sure have a coffee in a bar during the day Catch up on some gossip. Play golf. Work out at the gym. Fill your day in Walk everywhere Check out markets. Find interesting cafes
Take a long walk in a new neighborhood, go find a nice coffee shop with a patio and read a book and listen to music. Then go out to eat somewhere nice. That should take a good part of the day.
Learn to accept being alone.. Many of us work remotely and are alone all the time. Don't rely on others. I hate people so it's easy to avoid. In Pattaya most of the guys who patrol the bar areas have so many issues.

UA-cam is a great way to learn new skills and sometimes meet new people if you approach it the right way. I started doing it to help other people grow stuff and do tutorials. Now I'm into cameras, A/V, editing, presentation skills, personal improvement, mentoring, consulting, etc. Just think of it as a hobby that teaches you new skills. No need to fancy yourself an influencer or 'UA-camr'. It might happen though when you realize you developed skills that make your life and other's lives better. :)
"Distance makes the heart grow fonder" It's good to take time alone, you get some R&R and you appreciate her more. A good relationship needs time apart
Do some rigorous exercise for an hour or so late afternoon, get the heart pumping and stimulate the endorphins. Then go and have a few beers as a reward! No exercise, no beer! That's what I do!
For me i love the forests and watching birds so i would just do that we got a house near rangsit kinda semi rural farmland and stuff mixed with new housing estates
Hi I have lived in Thailand for over 6 years and have found it all an amazing wast of time. It's hard to believe that I fell for this fantasy, sold everything I own and followers my wife back to Thailand so I could do nothing along with the rest of the population. No books ,no parks, no education, no nothin. Sad indeed.
I lived in Pattaya full time for about six months, the first two months were great. The remaining four months were probably the loneliest four months of my life.
U could open up a bar in Jomtien, start a utube channel, lose all your money to your thai missus's who owns the bar.Take her to court, lose the court case.Document all on utube. And then say your broke, and have depression. And say it's everybody's else's fault, than beg for money. What are you talking about, there's heaps to do in Thailand.
We need a purpose in life, most of our life we work, what happens when we stop working ???? Most people go back to work. I hope to give to others when i stop work
Thoroughly enjoy your vlogs brother. No big deal if it's a little out of focus I watch all your content. Harry is a little champ. Hopefully Matias world watching he's not coping well with you blowing his channel up.
Go find a deserving lady who treats you as a human and not an ATM, or why not a happy ending massage and a cold Leo to wind it up, that'll cheer you up
Sorry but this is a very weak video. "OMG I've been left on my own for three days! What am I going to do!?" Get a grip for a start and stop making an issue out of nothing at all. I know you keep trying to keep the videos coming. But please don't drop your standards to this puerile and silly level.
I found this to be one of the most honest and inciteful videos you've done. It is the honest truth for anyone considering a long-term stay and what being out of your 'comfort zone' involves. The people commenting about Mia Nois and drinking beer are in for a big suprise after a few months of living in 'paradise'. Not everyone can handle their own thoughts and demons while living in 'Margharitaville'.
Great vdo mate, i get what you're saying, i am lucky enough to have gone both of the situations, living as a single guy in Thailand and as a married guy in Thailand over the last 14 years, both have their pro's and cons, both are equal good, i have a part time job as a scuba diving instructor on koh toa but don't think i could hack not working, like you say you need something to do or you will end up skint and alcoholic lol
Don't kid yourself brother. After some time, loneliness and feelings of emptiness will set in. Although you have a lady friend and lady pleasures. Go back to your town or village where you were born or worked. There maybe some friends left and be in your familiar surroundings for the sake of your mental wellbeing.
Time on your own in Pattaya or Bangkok sounds like paradise.... but the reality is , it can be the loneliest place on the planet.
