Personally, I would put Pirlo on the squad instead of Busquets, then he and Xavi could switch up occasionally and control the midfield.

He was for me the best player from 2014 to 2016 maybe. He was just unlucky that his peak was at really average Liverpool side that wasn't even in the Champions league. Also he moved to Barca at like 26,7 I think so a big part of his peak was spent at Ajax and at an average Liverpool.

Modern football is a lot more advanced. Under the modern standard, forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers are required to be good at what they are traditionally expected to be good at, AND they have to be very ball playing capable, AND they have to work hard in pressing/defending, AND they all have to understand modern complex tactics to a good level. If you are JUST good at scoring, defending or shotstopping, you will be considered a rubsh striker, defender or goalkeeper in the modern game.

While I adore Buffon, I think Neuer should be ahead. He changed the way all the elite keepers strive to play.
*A couple things:*
*1.* Marcelo was a lot better defensively than people remember, especially at his peak. He had to defend an entire side of a pitch with Ronaldo making central runs.
*2.* Xavi probably works better for the balance of the team, but Iniesta's dribbling and ball retention puts him over the top.
*3.* It's insane to think Suarez is still performing at an insane pace, with his stats in Brazil and the US being an ansolute joke.

I thought of this after remembering Gary Neville saying the goalkeeper of Manchester United is the world's most scrutinized position, but is it? What about the striker of Real Madrid? What about if a team wins the World Cup then they enter the next World Cup 4 years later... surely the star of the previous World Cup winning team would have a bit of pressure on his shoulders? What about players that simply cost an insane amount like Neymar to PSG in 2019? It could cover a lot of variables which is why you should make the video! All time most scrutinized positions, club or country, any year, any player age etc. It would be a fascinating video anyway.

Modern football is a lot more advanced.
Under the modern standard, forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers are required to be good at what they are traditionally expected to be good at, AND they have to be very ball playing capable, AND they have to work hard in pressing/defending, AND they all have to understand modern complex tactics to a good level.
If you are JUST good at scoring, defending or shotstopping, you will be considered a rubsh striker, defender or goalkeeper in the modern game.
Yes that’s true. Well rounded players are not a new invention though. Furthermore, in a squad of modern all rounders sometimes you need a specialist to make the difference like Haaland at City. Even CR7 basically was only in attack at one point, hell he never liked defending lol.

Ashley Cole instead of Marcelo is just laughable and personally, I would put Cannavaro (or Nesta, although he was a more elegant, technical and tall CB, he had many injuries. Cannavaro was always more consistent and was the face of Italy's 06 wc win) instead of Puyol.
