The best thing about these new Heavy Weapon Teams is that the weapons actually look like the crew can reasonably carry them, as opposed to the current teams.
They still look too heavy to me... Imagine picking up the lascanon that's just a long block of metal. All but the mortar are easily a 300+ pounds, not counting tripod.
@@TheMagicalWizardPyro The heavy bolter is about the same size as an IRL Mark 19 which weighs about 85 pounds unloaded and is occasionally used on a tripod in a 3 man team. It sucks massive balls to carry around, but it is done. As is the M2 .50 caliber HMG which is also a nearly 70 pound weapon. So it's not completely unrealistic. The lascannon is pretty big and would probably need a 4 man crew, but all could be moved by hand with some work.
I actually like *this* version of the bipod’ed missile launcher: it feels chunkier than previous ones, more like a 1950s era Recoilless rifle and those had bipods. The older missile launcher was far slimmer
Pants with built in knee pads don't work unless you're willing to tailor every single pair of pants and additionally use a flexible material, which the models most certainly don't suggest. Yeah, bipod on a missile launcher is weird.
Rocket launchers with the bipod: Why would I use the bipod for the rocket launcher, when I needed it for the mortar? From the old kit you could make 3 weapon teams: A rocket Launcher (with a standard Cadian trooper torso and head), a Mortar and a Lascannon.
The couching poses are all different now: the old kit was all left knee down, now we have at least one each of: right knee down, both knees down, and stooping with no knees down
Pertinent question: Given the staggering variety of bitz (arms, heads, different pouches suggesting different bodies, etc) and GW's propensity to only sell things that you can build into a rules-legal squad - reckon its safe to say this will probably only come in a x3 box/sprue?
I'm glad I kept my Mordian heavy weapons on their original slottas when I glued them onto the old "new" bases. Should be easy to squeeze them onto a 40mm without too much chopping.
As I'm a Valhallan IG player, I will not buy any of these new heavy weapon teams. The look pretty nice to me though. The only thing I'm concerned about is the new base size of 50mm (instead of the old one which measured 64mm). This means hell of a lot of rebasing. I really mean I will rebase my old teams. 1) I expect it to be the playing norm. 2) Its actually better for the IG player. Smaller bases are easier to hide, to manoeuver. The only ones that I will not rebase are the old (second edition) lascannons. They are too large to correctly fit on a 50mm base. I mean you theoretically could, place it on the new base, but the wheels and the two platform legs are overhanging outside of the base, which would look horrible.
Do we have a time frame as I really liked the old kit which I am converting in to Praetorians. Just so I know if I need to get them now or look elsewhere?
Nearly spat out my tea laughing when you said the autocannon looked a bit choady. I hope it's just the angle cos otherwise they will be known as choad cannons from now on 🤣
50mm is terrible and should be considered as a virtual spit in the face of every current guard player by Games Workshop. Having just finished converting x9 steel legion mortars on 60mm bases designed to use the Missile crew and a standard rifleman as crew to give my list flexibility, this change essentially makes it impossible to do this. I like to have 1 x guard member on a separate removable base with weapon teams in order to track wounds recieved, you just can't do that in the same way on 50mm, there is just not enough room. Not enough room for steel legion heavy bolter teams lying down. Not enough room to encorporate diorama style sandbags, walls etc... Just a really d*ck move from GW. I would argue that the size increase has not significant reason for relevance other than entice people to but new kits because they can't be bothered remodelling their existing models.
Im wondering if the new kits will be 5 teams, with them seemingly having a Seargeant and a vox, will they have made the chose to make heavy weapon teams more like infantry squads but with heavy weapons instead, like how marine squads are supposed to be 10s and havoc squads a ten man as well. makes me think it because GW loves there 10 men units and box sets
I wont be buying any new ones, but with the possibility of sargents and vox guys, think it may be worth me buying another brood brother box (for extra guys that'll match the rest) and enough bases for my 12 + and extra 6 since I've already got more than enough spares. Will wait until the codex drops before doing anything and know their load outs, looking like a sarge with radio version and 2 normal troop types as the squad 🙂
uhg why did thay have to change bases that's stupid and really don't want to rebase all my freaking heavy weapons squads ug. honestly it making me even less interest in playing 40k if I have to rebase so much.

The pistol which the Vox-Operator uses looks like the one from the Krieg kit.
I am so looking forward to re base more than 30 of those weapon teams

I can’t wait to sculpt new bases for these new heavy weapons teams.
50mms feel a bit too busy. We wont be able to make them as pretty as we used to do with 60s imho.
Pants with built in knee pads don't work unless you're willing to tailor every single pair of pants and additionally use a flexible material, which the models most certainly don't suggest.

It'll be quite difficult to put my old HWTs on 50mm bases. Gotta use an exacto knife and a lot of steady hand work to pull it off.
I can't be the only one thinking of (giddy even) a great way to kit bash the new arm pose at 9m15s.
Kek
The front portion of the las cannon matches the las cannon on the leman russ.
These models look great, but I worry GW is missing the easy open to do a DKoK version of this too along with the other models.
Literally *ALL* I'm waiting for.
the flare gun could be a smoke launcher. -1 to hit.
Heavy weapons squads are nice, they become regular squads once the heavy weapon is destroyed
Lol looking at the heavy bolted team, looks like the radio man has just dropped a big one and the gunner can smell it

they could put a little more thought into the ends of barrels on things
"Panzershrek in space"
Yup, you're a Bolt Action player :)
I got a reprint of the steel legion lascannon for kitbashing. Made it a multimelta. The squad is decked out with them.
I have a few unopened Steel Legion Lascannon teams if you're interested in a couple.
06:50 my guess is that's a flare gun or something for signaling. that or they redesigned the las-pistols.
I never use bipods for my rocket launchers in my heavy weapon teams.
What size bases are these guys on now?
I'm glad I kept my Mordian heavy weapons on their original slottas when I glued them onto the old "new" bases. Should be easy to squeeze them onto a 40mm without too much chopping.
When I finish I shall share. My Guard army: think Apocalypse Now meets Point Break. Commander, of course, is Brody. Fuck Cadia. Brody lives!!!? Lol.

HWT will use 50 mm base?
maybe the bipod on the rocket launcher doesnt have to be attached
Agree 100% about the rocket launcher. Does not need a bipod.
melta pistols are already a thing. thats probably a poorly sculpted stub pistol.
Is this box already out?
I wonder of hwt in infantry squads can take the vox
Almost every prediction was wrong, haha. HWT (now HWS) keep their lasgun and did not get a vox.
I like how they look like two pro soildiers could actually carry and deploy them over the current ones which are just way too big
I hope all of the weapons will be useful. Especially the heavy bolter and the mortar

This means GW will remove also the catachan HWTs I suppose, making a catachan army losing some of their character
Flare gun identical to the one in the krieg kit. People: it's an AT weapon!

They'll probably be for three teams with five weapons options like it used to. No idea why would they change that.
I've always liked the heavy weapons squads. I hope they're good.
Shame about the size increase though
Ah, yes, the Sturmpistole
Would just wish they'd use DkoK. I would become a guard player immediatly.
