This guy is great. I am 16 years old and he is inspiring me to be more interested in the sciences. Before I really found him and Carl Sagan I thought that Science was pretty boring but the way that he explains things you can't help but be intrigued.
Always impressed with Neil. Makes being smart fun. I wish I would have had teachers like this when I was in high school and college.

As far as I can tell, your target demographic is black Americans. Having said that, I applaud you for having Dr. Tyson on your show. So few shows with that target demographic feature guests or topics of science, especially those who do not believe any of the major world religions. I think that a component of ending racism is showing that black and other non-white/asian* people can be physicists, engineers, mathematicen, chemists, and biologists.
*Let's be honest, we all believe that the Asians are the best at math, but that's likely due to cultural differences in the administration of primary and secondary education in those countries and cultures. There's no racism in that--the same way that there is no racism in this: Black folks may be dominating sports because of 400 years of selective breeding. It's a plausible thing based on facts and science. I'm not commenting on the value of one culture or ethnicity. These are just things that may be true because of real differences that a we have the power to make in our discrete societies.

its easy to think things are bad today, because of all the negativity in media. harder to imagine how much worse our ancestors had it. the trend is romanticism about a past we don't live in and have little connection to personally. medicine, agriculture, and technology have drastically reduced mortality rates. the difference is, our attitude to death and our acceptance of its regular occurrence has drastically changed. that is progress.

One's socioeconomic perspective definitely shapes his/her view and Neil is no exception. And I don't think he garrentees that events like ww1 or 2 wouldn't repeat, bad things still happens today there is no denying that. But because of the overall advancement in liberal mindset by the majority of people (hopefully) , frequency of such events are less.
Fred Hampton's Ghost progress cannot and shouldn't be denied. It doesn't mean everything is fine, not even close, there's more then plenty to do but we are making progress.
