God bless. Love these men, and respect their love for Christ. May God multiply their efforts and by them bring Orthodoxy more into the mind of the west.

My Godfather advised me to read that book. It was a very good read. I had to take it slowly.

Thanks a lot dear Fathers, this great Christian Art is certainly a reflection of the Divine Art through which we are attracted to Christ and turned into faithful Orthodox followers of our Master and Savior. May all days be filled with love and wisdom, please pray for me, a sinner.

The beards are powerful between these two Priests .

Modern priests need to have a serious conversation about Young Earth ideas, both in the fathers and Scripture. We don't need to rely on modern science's claims of Creation's "extreme old age" to be fascinated by the fact that our predecessors and ancestors, no matter how old, were brilliant and saintly people, capable of great art and architecture. I think Fr. Maximos and Fr. Josiah don't necessarily grant wholesale the "tens of thousands of years" claims here, but the question then hangs in the air as soon as the claim is brought up.

Judging from the comments… Fr Josiah will you address the issue of dating the age of creation and the influence of Fr Seraphim Rose?

I am not comfortable with this notion of time frames of tens of thousands of years and more where dose this line of thought fit in creation I am just starting in my Orthodox life and this conversation feels very problematic to me .

There's an interesting podcast called Ek Nekron, and a particular episode called “Created In Incorruption: The First day”.. That really helped me see things differently about creation in the book of Genesis..
      I wouldn't worry about it 😁

I'm thinking that perhaps these ancient peoples went deep into the caves for safety, and to artistically depict the animals as a form of asking their God for protection for their families from wild beasts. Maybe they painted and offered the animals to God in their artwork?

Young Earth Orthodoxy is a relative new thing. Not too long ago, it was just the domain of some monastics. Besides the Prot fundamentalists.
You guys don't remember when ROCOR was considered a schismatic church with an ethnic bunker mentality. Not always open to converts either. Seraphim Rose did not enjoy the acceptance he has today.

It is not new. It is what the church has believed since the beginning. It is the other way around. Since the new atheist "philosophers", many christians think that Genesis is symbolic, because it does not fit modern "science". @@rustybeltway2373

@@rustybeltway2373what do the peculiarities of American culture and Orthodoxy have to do with the teachings of Ss. Joseph the Hesychast, Paisios, Luke the Surgeon, John of Kronstadt, Theophan the Recluse and countless others?
