I prefer this over any of them, I had the 07 single cab with a 2.9 engine, it sucked because it had no room for anything and bad engine and I don't like the crew cab because you're cheated of out bed space. All of them have some form of electrical issues which after being figured out they are great trucks.

Change the oil and the Atlas 5 will reward you for another 200k. These aluminum DOHC engines are exceptional from the closed deck to the girdle and sleeves. Their efficiency is why I adore them and own a fleet personally. Clean out the throttle body regularly and electric fans with a low thermostat keep it at a 1/4 instead of close to half. Specially effecting your air conditioning by 10 degrees plus. Good luck!

I just bought a 2005 crew cab 4x4 that went into a ditch at fairly low speed, but hit brush and a small tree. I have to replace the roof panel, windshield hood, grill, headlights driver fender and driver door mirror. 225,000 miles but it was a fleet truck for an excavating company so a lot of highway miles. Been well maintained. Interior is good. No leaks, good belts and runs great. Paid $600. It has the 5 cylinder. I didn't know anything about these trucks so it's good to hear that they are pretty good trucks. A guy I know had one that he bought new and took it in to get a tune up at 200k miles. It was still running well on the original plugs.

My ‘04 3.5L Z71 has a crankshaft seal leak, valve cover gasket leak, and clogged PCV valve. I’m about to fix all this stuff for less than $50. I love my 5 banger. I threw a camper top on it and use it for overlanding. I gave mine hell! She became a local celeb with my friends and people at my local university. I bought a ‘04 Jeep GC and it’s given me so many problems that I want to repair the Colorado sooner than planned just to have something more reliable. Over all my truck has done great for 220k miles and will have more to come. Not to mention the exhaust sounds badass since it’s a unique engine design.

Been driving a 2010 Colorado 3.7 Liter 5 cyl 4x4 for 4 years and overall it's been a great truck. Now at 135,000 miles
    Pros:
-- Overall it's had no major engine issues. It is starting to burn a bit of oil at 3,000-4,000 miles after a change.
--was way cheaper used than a Tacoma or Frontier
--some parts have been easy & cheap to fix myself, including struts, sensors, some wiring, oil changes, air filters, fluids.
--Solid 4x4 for general mountain roads, 6 foot bed a nice size for camping and moving most things
--gas mileage is solid. With good tires and cleaned intake, I can get up to 25mpg on the highway.
    Cons:
--interior is garbage. Most handles have broke at least once, and plastics are peeling.
--some repairs are very expensive due to dumb engineering. Changing a wheel bearing for example cost me $800 bucks largely because the wheel hub requires you to take everything apart (big labor cost)
-- not a ton of torque for city driving and tranny is sometime slow
--some electronics and wiring are garbage. I've had to fix speakers, airbag sensors and more.

I have a 2010 lx 4 door 3.7 4x4 about 100,000 miles so far. I like the truck, get about 20 mpg hiway. It's important to keep an eye on the engine oil level, and change every 3,000-5,000 miles in my opinion. Don't rely on the sensor lights to remind you. Definitely check that 3rd brake light seal, I had to use some silicone to seal it up.

Have already decided that if I'm lucky enough to find one ... treat it like a '57 and do the restore job on it. I'm looking for a daily driver not a garage queen. It's a cry'in shame that today "No One" is really building anything I want to buy ... and you have to basically go back a half generation to get a vehicle you can actually love. A Colorado like the '11 model, and a '04 Astro I'd love to have two brand new ones sitting in my garage right now ... anyone at GM listening ?

I drive a 2011 Canyon 4x4 and it's had many of the common issues you list here. The blower motor was very annoying but not terribly difficult or expensive to replace. You didn't mention the most annoying drawback of these trucks in my opinion, which is the awful passlock failure. At least once a week I am unable to start the vehicle and have to wait 10 minutes for it to clear the passlock error.

When I was ready to replace my battery I wanted an Optima Battery. For those unaware, Optima does not make a group 86 series battery. Being said, the 86 series is 1” skinnier that the 34 series. 34 is a super common battery.
If you want to upgrade your battery, I suggest pulling you battery tray out and cutting part of the angled siding on the inside. It just acts as structural support. I used a Dremel tool to make the clearance.
If you end up getting the larger battery, and want an Optima; you will need additional work to be done. The optima is a group 34/78 DT (double terminal) meaning it is also a 78 series battery. The difference between the two is the 34 is top post, the 78 is side post. For some reason they made the side terminals pushed the the center more, and this lines perfectly up with a bracket that connects to a strap to hold your battery down. This being metal- we have an issue. I ended up cutting 2 corners of a circle that way I don’t fry my battery by having the front side terminals both touch a metal bracket.
A little unsightly, but you can always make the cut cleaner and look better. Overall if you want a bigger battery, 34 is my suggestion. Much stronger, more common, and waste less space.

I'll be looking for a reg. cab model to swap the 5.3 engine from my Envoy XL into. They never put the V8s in the reg cabs, and the colorado 5.3s were neutered with 'torque-management' software and fuel efficient axle-ratio. The result was a slower truck than what this legendary LS V8 was capable of. My 1500lb heavier Envoy XL also did 0-60 in 6.7sec (when stock), lighter Colorado should be quicker than that. I want reg cab to be as light as possible, and swap my 5.3, 4L60e transmission, AND 4.10axle ratio into a reg. cab for a great sport truck that's capable of some work. Preferably in that yellow and with the 'Extreme' appearance pkg. Likely won't get that lucky, so I'd settle for any reg. cab that's not all rusted out like my Envoy frame. Wonder if I can swap that 2.8 4banger into my Hyundai Accent?😁

Valve is a possibility, but a dirty throttle body and/or MAF is the more likely culprit.

    • @der_pinguin44

Yes and no. If you can get your hands on a 4J diesel, you'll need the transmission and ECU. You'll need a custom driveshaft, and you'll have to weld new engine and transmission mounts.
The GMT-355 is different from the international D-MAX frame. It's "based on," not a replica.

Yep, I agree with that one, way to many cheap plastic parts that breaks easily and the electronics going out and mailfunctioning can be a pain in the ass too. I haven't had many other issues besides the throttle body being clogged.
Also, the security system is really shitty, it will lock you out from starting the vehicle at times.

The 4x4 version of these trucks had the worst Front Brake Design ever- TOTAL NIGHTMARE!
To remove the rotors they actually come off backwards, you have to remove several components.... look it up its absurd

Hi, I own several Isuzus. The design is very rugged. I've been on nasty terrain in the 2WD model and had no problems bringing the truck to a stop.

    • @sidelvar
      @sidelvar 3 роки тому

It's annoying to fish out the abs sensor with the rotor, but it's not a big deal. Being attached to the hub does come with better stability though. There are certainly some awkward repairs though such as the starter location.
