@@tommunism8778 I mean you can pretty much tell just from listening to them that subject to change is the song they wrote that they thought lyrics and sounds would fit better in a different song. So much so that they used this song to make two different songs. Another good example is the the demo of Open Your Eyes. The solo in that demo is the solo they used in March Of The Dogs
100% agree on this. In Aus, this song was by default on Chuck and was the standout immediately when listening through and that says a lot because chuck is full of bangers. UH didn't quite have the same impact and felt shoehorned.

Deryck writes the songs and that’s just the direction he went in. I don’t think he set out to do it on purpose it just sort of happened going off what he said. A lot of fans nowadays say Screaming bloody murder is their best album. Guess we just like the heavier more raw stuff.

For me, DTLI and Chuck were both equal as their best. But then I listen to half hour of power and man, it's so raw that it also sits there amongst the best 😅

It sounds mad when someone from a band recorded like 5/6 songs they can't remember but it just goes to show the difference between those that write/record a song as a bonus song and then never really pay it any attention again, and the fans that go onto listen to it dozens - hundreds of times haha! I've heard that Subject To Change was split into not only Underclass Hero, but also No Reason. Not only is the lyrics in the 1st verse similar in both songs, but also the lead melody that Brownsound plays in the parts before the verses was carried over to the final chorus of No Reason. Regardless, I think it says a lot about my favourite band for over a decade when a banger like Subject To Change wasn't considered good enough to be on the official album release.
Just last week, I crowdsurfed to Noots and gone insane to Welcome to Hell being played live in Łódź, Poland. Just last night, I BLASTED Subject to Change on repeat, wondering why wasn't it also played live. Big thanks for this video man - made my day. I've listened to Sum 41's songs for 20 years, seen live gigs 5 times, and most importantly watched all of your wacky "first online shows EVER". my FAVOURITE sum 41 song, really wish I had the courage to call out and ask them to play it live when i went in dublin and nottingham. Since 2004 I had an "unofficial" version of CHUCK album on MP3 with this song as a bonus track. Being listening to this song since 2004 and always thought this is the regular song from the album. This was the pre-last song and the last was "Slipping Away".

I love that you're covering these really deep cuts that we want to know more about. I was super happy to hear you say you prefer the "Subject to Change" version. I always thought that one had much more aggression. Also wanted to note that this song actually features multiple parts that found their way into other songs. The bridge part vocal melody and lyrics (So how long has this gone?) is also present during the ending of "No Reason". Just in case Steve forgot that part.

also! the post chorus of subject to change is ALSO the backing vocals of the last part of "No Reason" which is why that was my favourite to hear live!

Since 2004 I had an "unofficial" version of CHUCK album on MP3 with this song as a bonus track. Being listening to this song since 2004 and always thought this is the regular song from the album. This was the pre-last song and the last was "Slipping Away".

I love that you're covering these really deep cuts that we want to know more about. I was super happy to hear you say you prefer the "Subject to Change" version. I always thought that one had much more aggression. Also wanted to note that this song actually features multiple parts that found their way into other songs. The bridge part vocal melody and lyrics (So how long has this gone?) is also present during the ending of "No Reason". Just in case Steve forgot that part.
