Just ordered mine! This review convinced me. I also bought the CAN-BUS adapter, the iDoing seller on Aliexpress said that is needed for the 2016-2017 cars with Harmon Kardon sound. I’ll follow up to confirm it works when I get it . Thanks!

I just installed the radio on my 2017 limited , I have the HK radio the can bus does the trick ! Still figuring out all the things it does . I installed the wire adapter to maintain use of my usb's in console . Stil trying to get used to the size of the screen . Has both car play and android auto .

Thank you! This video was a good breakdown of this head unit. I like it. I have 2017 STI Limited with the Harmon Kardon sound system. I am going to order it, I will have to get an aftermarket amp, but it will be worth it!

with the can bus you do not need to add an amp it works perfectly fine with the HK system

@@ronaldd.1355 Yep I got it. There are several models of the head unit so you should message the idoing people to ask them which specific one you should get.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase. It does glitch out sometimes but it works more often than not. Try not to leave your car exposed to sun cause it does glitch more when it's overheated

Hey man I just installed mine everything working great BUT there is like a annoying sound/hissing sound In the background whenever I start driving and when music is playing too . You know how I can fix that ?
I have a 2014 wrx and saw that most of these head units are easier to get for the newer models that have the silver aircon vents. Would I just be able to get the silver aircon vents from a newer model rexy getting wrecked and use them and it all still work normally on my older Rex?
They have a model for the harmon kardon system now.
Can you customize the background with a selected picture? Imagine a nice big sti logo on the screen when cruising at night..
I’m not sure. I never tried it, but I know it has a few background choices to choose from.

It’s magnetic. I just stuck it on top of the unit so it’s tucked away in the dash. No issues with signal.

Hey Chris, I will be getting this shipped shortly. Where did you place your GPS signal (the little square pad). The only spot I've seen people install is on the head unit itself. Where did you place it?
I placed it on top of the unit and I get great signal.

I looked briefly at the Sony unit, but the basic universal units I was never a fan of. It looks too aftermarket and unfinished to me. I wanted something that looked OEM as possible. Hence what made me choose the idoing. Not to mention it is all plug and play including the rear camera.

To be cheaper than the idoing. I asked them why it is so much cheaper, and they simply said that they are the factory and sell it for wholesale price, but the others selling it for higher are retailers. Do you think I should go with the cheaper one like the link attached ?
Sure why not. If it’s the same product, I would go with the cheaper option.

It does not. It comes with two usb cables that you can run into the same usb locations. I have one ran into the center console and one into the glovebox.
Yes it has memory built in. I use carplay which is off the external usb. It comes from your phone so if you stop the car and then come back and plug it back it, it’ll play wherever your phone left off.

Yes all works. Nothing else is needed. Unit comes with everything.

Yes. It would work in yours.
How did you get the factory USB ports under the center console to work? Was it plug and play or any additional harnesses necessary? Also what about radio? Plug and play?
The factory USB ports are no longer in use. It comes with 2 new USB ports with the headunit that you can run anywhere in the car. I have one wired to the center console and one on the glove box. Radio just plugs right into the headunit.

Right out of the box. Comes with all the harnesses you need.
i have a question, how does a head unit like this work if you pair it with a parking sensor system? i mean, it is possible to do that or do you have to put the head unit they include or not? I'm asking this because i'm thinking in buying a second hand forester, put this head unit, but i also would like to install it some sensors.
I’m not quite sure since I don’t have experience with the back up sensors on this car. It does have settings to turn the sensors on and off, so it may very well work just like OEM.

So, mine doesn’t connect when plugged in. And lately the wireless CarPlay disconnects in about 5 min into using it. Are those the connection issues you have?

Just installed mine yesterday, having an issue with the Steering wheel controls. The Phone hang up and pick up, Mute button, source, and voice call button work when mapping. The volume control wheel and forward and back buttons seem to not be registered in the settings menu do you know how I could possibly fix this at all? right now I have volume up mapped to phone pick up and volume down to phone hang up....
Hm i am not sure. All my buttons linked up to the OEM functions just fine. I would reach out to idoing.
Was wondering how well can you control sound? I usually listen to rap music and just got new speakers for my 2018 but was told mostly need to replace head unit and wondering how well this one would help with like increasing base and other sound ?
There is an entire EQ that you can adjust. It sounds great! Loves of settings to change to what you want.

any issues pairing your bluetooth and zlink? when i turn the map on zlink the picture is so crappy, also bluetooth wont let me pair all the way
I don’t have issues with either. My Bluetooth works flawlessly as does CarPlay.

Thinking about putting one in my gr wrx. Have you looked at the wireless CarPlay dongles? I’m deciding between the idoing and a pioneer with wireless carplay.
I briefly looked into it and saw it was now an option. It wasn’t at the time i got mine though. I’ve been meaning to pick one up and try it out though.

You mentioned in the video that you sold your OEM head unit, is there a certain way you would suggest to go about doing that?
On selling it? I think I sold it on the forums, but nothing special. It's not worth much, but I believe the 2015 guys scoop them up to get the updated head-unit in their cars.

For carp play you just need an Apple wire to plug into the phone. Nothing else needed for the reverse camera as it comes with the wire harness needed for it to work.
Sorry if you already answered this but on the aliexpress web page it is saying it only works with iOS 12. Is it still working with iOS 13?

I can confirm I was able to make the 2016 STi Harmon Kardon sound system work. Make sure to buy the CANBUS decoder if you have HK sound. The reverse camera is “second option” plug, not the 28 pin with the steering wheel. Additionally I was able to retain factory USB’s function to charge with a MetraElectronics USB adapter. However, only the primary USB port plug included from iDoing works with the ZLINK Apple car play for me. The factory USB port, and secondary USB port plug included, only charge my devices.

Does this make your stock speakers sound better? Do you plan on upgrading your speakers since your HU is upgraded?
I have the kicker speaker upgrade from Subaru including the sub. If you check my first initial review of this head-unit, I go over that. But yes, it drastically improves the sound just from the unit itself.

Silly question - amazon link in the description pulls up the Dasaita but the title of this video says it’s for an IDoing review. Is there a difference in brands?
It’s the same unit but a different program. The idoing isn’t sold in amazon. But the dasaita is the same unit.

If whatever is being warrantied wasn’t touched or the effect of an aftermarket part, you’ll be fine. For what it’s worth, one of my axle boots on front driver side tore and they replaced it even though I had coilovers on. It depends on the dealer as well.

They don’t have any options for aftermarket subs. But probably get her harness to do so
Just installed this HU and it was working perfectly for the first day but now zlink won’t identify my iPhone. It tells me usb failed and to use another one and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Have you have this issue?
Never have an issue. Are you using the OEM Apple cable?

It worked great yesterday but no it’ll either do nothing when I plug the phone in, or start loading and then said “usb failed try another” and I do and then that one doesn’t work either. I’ve tried all the USB ports and restarting the head unit. I also have tried force stopping zlink and clearing the cache data. Super weird!!!

Yes, I daily it currently. It gets cold where I live and we do get some good snow storms.

It plugs in just like OEM, so if you were able to do so on the stock unit, you’ll be able to.

You can turn them off or on. They can turn when you turn the car. I have them off currently though.
Hey, How is it in the daytime? I had the seicane andriod 8.0 and I found it was not bright enough in the daytime, wondering if this one is brighter? Great review by the way.
It’s plenty bright. No issues at all in daytime or night with the clarity. You can adjust the brightness to your liking though.

Rear camera is stock. Just plug it into the supplied harness.

Pioneer would most likely produce a better sound, but can’t say 100%. Haven’t run a pioneer on this setup.
Scoobyfreak86 thanks a lot! Im considering this android headunit vs pioneer smart receiver (android os). Cons that i can see with the android headunit is (probably) the sounds, while for the pioneer is the lack of apple carplay 😩

I’ve never tried to get xm on the unit. I just use Spotify.

No issues with it. Works just fine.
You spliced wires? Cause that's only for a wrx cause the STI model has extra that's not even plug and play with a idoing radio.

You can mirror your phone to the headunit. No need to download the apps. Or you can use the internet browser.

I just got the newest unit with wireless car play and for the life of me I can’t even get the built in navigation to work and I paid $375 for mines lol.
Do you have the gps antenna plugged in?
Scoobyfreak86 yes but when they shipped it to me there was no GPS map installed.. so I am in the process of them helping me instal the map but it is not going anywhere lol.

Is there a screen protector for this headunit?
Not made for this specific unit, but I’m sure you can find one and cut to size. Although, I have no issues with scratches in the 3 years of ownership. It looks as good as it did the first day I got it.

You do have carplay from the factory unit, which is nice.

Yes it functions like CarPlay. Messages come through the screen and Siri works as well.
Oe mic does not work, but it comes with a new one and you can run it into the same spot.
Does it fit a 2015 crosstrek?
Not this one specially. But they have other models that fit different cars.
