    Of note... the day Derek Jeter collected his 3,000th hit, he also had his 2,999th; 3,001st; 3,002nd; and 3,003rd. He went 5-for-5 and was a huge part of why the Yankees won that game.

    Jeter was not only a HOF player but he was classy...never had off field issues and was never embroiled in controversy...one of the best all time Yankee Captains.

      It will take a couple of years until Jeter is eligible for Hall Of Name . Just wait. His Number will be retired soon. Mariano Rivera's number retired. Don't worry.

      Well Steinbrenner thought he partied to much, clubs, bars and stuff, but there is no doubt in my mind that he will be the first player elected to the HOF with 100% of all the votes..... They even made a commercial about how Steinbrenner thought he partied too much... Still, one of the greatest of all times!.... Between him and Mo, one of them will get the first 100% of the vote to get in to the HOF

    coming from a kid raised in Orioles territory, i’m supposed to despise the Yankees. but, fan or not- everyone should give this man some respect. just look at that arm. i mean, he’s just sooo good! his career was something i’m glad I at least got to witness for the last couple years.

    Out of all of the Yankee greats, ones that I've read about, heard stories about, never got to see because I was born too late...
    Jeter stands among them, equal in legendary stature among the likes of The Babe, Joe D, and The Mick,
    And I consider it a privilege to have existed in a time and place where I can watch Derek Jeter play, then tell all of the stories to my kids, and the future generations after them.

    • @ghettomist1575
      @ghettomist1575 9 років тому +2

      I don't compare him to Ruth or Gehrig because ones career was cut short and one didn't take care of himself yet he basically created all the record that people tried to break. Jeter in my opinion is comparable to Maris and Mantle though, maybe even DiMaggio. Jeter is nonetheless the best player I've seen and it's a privilege to have seen him. Sad to him go.

    • @DocHalliday
      @DocHalliday 9 років тому +1

      Good points made there, but the name Jeter alone stands along with all of them. The comparison to DiMaggio is spot on in the way he carried himself on the field... Off the field Jeter is way more approachable then Joe D was.

      Joseph Halliday
      Jeter does not stand among Babe Ruth, Joe D, or Mickey Mantle, or Gehrig, in pure baseball terms.
      I was born in 1971 and been a Yankee fan since since 1974. My great uncle was a batboy for the Yankees from 1926-1929....
      I love Jeter with all my heart....he will always be my favorite player of the past 30 years.
      But in simple baseball terms, he was not as good as Babe, Mantle, Gehrig or Joe D.
      I love Jeter for being a great captain, a solid role model, and a great Yankee, who never let the team down.
      I love Jeter the way I loved Mattingly and Thurman Munson....great players who would do anything for the team. Deserving of all the accolades, but not quite as legendary as the Yankees' Big 4, in pure baseball terms.
      There is simply no way you can Put Jeter alongside Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle and DiMAggio, statistically speaking, in baseball terms....even as a Yankee fan.
      He is equal to me in stature in terms of love, admiration and respect i have for him, but in purely baseball terms, he is not equal in stature to them.

      I don't think Jeter is a top ten yankee great, and certainly not in the top 100 of all time MLB players. The name Jeter is great, but I think Maris and Mantle are bigger than Jeter. Lets just be honest, Ruth is the single greatest and nobody can be compared to him and behind Ruth can come Gehrig or even Honus Wagner.

    The Giambi play was the biggest of his career because so much was at stake. It was game 3 of the LDS and the A's were up 2 games to none, The Yanks had the lead at the time but it was only a 1 run lead so if Giambi scores there its a momentum changer and the Yanks might not make it to one of the best world series I have ever seen (even tho they lost) Only a truly great player makes a play like that, how many shortstops have the presence of mind to be where he was to even make the flip? Not many.

  • @PancakestackPlays

    Jeter, and Rivera are the greatest MLB players who ever lived. Jeter is the greatest Shortstop player to ever lived

    • @AbsoluteyAmerican
      @AbsoluteyAmerican 7 років тому

      Ha, thats laughable. Jeter and Rivera are most certainly not the greatest MLB players who ever lived. I will start with these names, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Honus Wagner, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Willie Stargel, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax, Walter Johnson, Ted Williams, WIllie Mays, Stan Musial, Ty Cobb. I can keep going to prove my point but that would take up many lines.. I actually can prove that Jeter is not even a top ten greatest yankee and certainly not in the top 100 greatest players in history. Also, Honus Wagner is the greatest shortstop to have ever lived..... I suggest you read more books outside of the Yankee organization and read about more players players old and new.

    • @AbsoluteyAmerican

    Though a great highlight reel. “Career Highlights?” Is a misnomer. More like post season & milestone highlights...along with every last out and celebration of World Series wins of the Jeter era. Not that they aren’t great. In fact two of those plays, his headlong dive into the seats and his picking up the missed cut off, to put Jeremy Giambi out at the plate. Those, to me are two plays that made everyone who witnessed it, gasp while our collective minds were blown! And if we were being honest. 20 mins. is kind of an insult. He made the incredible his norm. His list of career highlights would be enormous. He’d do something amazing 3 out of 4 games, whether in the field or with a bat. I’m not a Yankees fan...at all. But I am a fan of baseball so I’m a Jeter fan. In the era of look at me, hubris and over inflated egos. Derek is a class act, who played balls to the wall, with integrity and humility. It will be awhile before someone fills those shoes..if ever!

    I like Jeter. Always have. That is why I'm really surprised by the anemic highlight reels. Twenty years, over 3000 hits, and all that keeps popping up are the game winning HR in a series the Yankees lost, "The Flip", (which is an incredible play but only stopped the tying run from scoring in the middle of a game the Yankees won.), a couple of gutsy foul ball outs, and some plays you see almost daily during any regular season.
    Maybe the "over-rated" tag has some merit after all...... Included in this highlight reel is one where a kid snags a ball, turning a certain out into a game changing home run. How does that show Jeter's greatness?
    Jeter is a pretty certain first ballot hall of famer. Isn't there more?????
