    Gloves ABSOLUTELY make a HUGE difference in callouses! Mostly every bar, dumbbell, and several grips, have a steel knurling that increases grip, but also eats away at your skin! Ever since I started wearing gloves, any and all callous growth stopped, like, entirely.
    They absolutely give more grip, and they don't have to be all gooey and slimy if you wear fingerless, made from breathable material, and your gym has decent A/C.

    • @privateassman8839
      @privateassman8839 Рік тому +7

      @@sasquatchthesquatch3357With pullups or chin ups or lat pulldowns, the reason you develop callouses or blisters is because it pinches against itself (palm pads) and slips off itself. Wearing gloves doesn't prevent that interaction, only interaction between the bar and your hands. If you want NO callouses or blisters (with or without gloves) for the above exercises, you need to "set" your grip. Rather than reaching for the bar and grasping it immediately, touch your fingertips to the bar, then slide the rest of your hand into grip position. This prevents your palm pads from bunching up and slipping against themselves

    I wear gloves sometimes and the reason is - the standard weightifting bar (not the olympic one) is a bit too thin for my fists. The gloves "thicken" the bar so I can grab it better. And it's not a grip issue, I have an excellent grip.
    But I agree that you will still get callouses even with gloves.

    Great video! I’ve never used gloves while lifting. Using gloves for better grip strength can be counterproductive. Using chalk, wrist straps or versa gripps are far better options. Lifting with bare hands can also toughen and thickens the skin which makes it more resilient which is a huge benefit. Most elite lifters don’t use gloves at all. I’ve noticed that most people who use gloves while lifting are generally newbies or inexperienced lifters who are quite weak. 💪

      @ParvParashar 10 місяців тому

      @@SublineYT I clearly said that “I’ve noticed that most people who use gloves while lifting are generally newbies” and not everyone in every circumstance. You can definitely find a few exceptions to every case. Also, just because an elite or advanced lifter does something doesn’t always mean it’s always optimal or even necessary. Ronnie Coleman also lifted superhuman weights which aren’t always the most SFR friendly and induces a lot of fatigue which isn’t really ideal for hypertrophy. If you look at strongman and powerlifting competitors or any other strength sports athletes then you can notice that they don’t use gloves at all even in their off season training. Most strength sports don’t allow gloves. Just ask any strength sport athlete the question that why don’t they wear gloves. It doesn’t feel very natural to most. They’re also an extremely suboptimal lifting gear especially when compared to other lifting gear. We’ve access to much better gear like wrist straps, wrist wraps, chalk, versa gripps and you can also use mixed grip or hook grip. Some lifters might use gloves because their calluses are causing too much discomfort in certain cases and they can’t tolerate it sometime. Gloves don’t feel natural to most simply because you have a thick layer of some material between you and the barbell, dumbbell or machine handles. They don’t allow you to feel the knurling of the barbell or dumbbell and don’t allow you to form a great mind muscle connection that you can have otherwise. Using them makes most lifters feel less efficient neurologically and doesn’t allow you to feel very primed and makes performance not as good.

    Mike I normally respect your content, but not today. I've been a gym rat for over four decades. First off, tightly-fitting gloves, especially full-fingered batting or receiver gloves, give you a better grip, especially if you're sweatty. They keep your calluses from tearing and protect your skin from ultra-agressive knurling. Each to his own, but there are more advantages to gloves than disadvantages.

Oh to have that durability these days.... I'm way cooler looking now though.

    Yeah, i can tell from personal expirence, it dosen't help with grip, but it helps protect your skin from being damaged (so less pain wich may be a small limiting factor perhaps, at least for novices who wanna make quick progress) from holding tight while lifting and well it dosen't really have any downsides other than they cost some money. I couldn't find the wrist rolling thingies so i got those gloves, but it's not a total regret tbh. And i can use them in winter anyway so yeah, they're ok.

    False, wearing gloves greatly reduces or stops calluses forming on your hands. They can also have wraps to keep your wrists straight with your forearms. They are also potentially and quite likely as aid to biohazard prevention, namely getting covid as that touches the gym equipment instead of bare skin.
