Nah, we're starting the season in better shape than we started last year. Smith is a big upgrade from Wheeler. I like our bottom 6 more this season than last year. Rempe, Edstrom, Vesey, Cuylle ...etc. This is also a make or break years for Kakko and Chytil so hopefully that will light a fire under them and they can give us an impactful 3rd line. I don't think we're winning the P Trophy this year but 2nd or 3rd in the Metro is a good goal. I am most excited to see if Othmann can make the jump. That would be huge if he could make the squad an add a little more offense to the bottom six.
I don't think regression per se, I just think our division and conference rivals got better. That and we are banking on panarin , laf etc to have career seasons again we might not get it. I'm praying to the hockey gods one of our prospects makes the jump and has a huge season.
The prospects have a good shot this year to make some noise around the league which I'm all for, it's about time the Rangers left some roster spots open for the kids to get a legit chance. This could actually be a good thing, only time will tell though.
Way too early to predict a regression IMO. Rangers definitely need to add some youth into the lineup this year for cap reasons & because there are players who are knocking on the door like Othmann & Berard. I'd still move Kakko & try to trade him for a really good D prospect if they can get one.
I don't think the rebuild is 100%. The hole on RW has existed since trading Buchnevich, and the 3rd line D pair has been weak from the start. The cap and a bad contract or two is restricting improving on these deficiencies.
exactly, a lot of factors are the reason the Rangers are limited to what they can do as an organization within the NHL, given there current situation. As much as I love bread, the dude gets paid over 11 million per season and just pulls a vanishing act in the playoffs every damn time. Rangers have a total cap of around 84 million and Bread makes up 11.6 million of that 84 million. IDC if bread has a 120 point season. it means nothing, if his usual production during the season, doesn't carry over into the playoffs then he's hurting the overall team, more so then he's helping it. Rangers are sitting on a few really bad contracts which is really limiting what they can do. However, that does give some of prospects a legit shot to prove themselves. To make my point better, Bread is making 11.6 and Trouba is making 8 mill. Those two players alone, almost eat up 25% of the Rangers total cap.
Rangers got rid of Godrow for making 3.5 million a season. How about Panarin not scoring in the playoffs for 8 million ? Fans are missing the bigger picture with this team. It’s not a coaching or player problem, it’s a management philosophy problem.
I don't believe the Rangers Regressed, they basically have the same roster with a few new kids that will take the remaining spots. Which I honestly don't mind, since it'll give some Rangers prospects a legit shot at sticking on the roster for the long term. Hell, if some of prospects do well, it could draw interest around the league and give the Rangers a chance to make a blockbuster trade around the trading deadline. Now, I think the Rangers will make the playoffs but I don't think they'll make the cup finals, let alone make another ECF this season. I "think" the Rangers limit is to make it to the second round but get knocked out.
I dont think Rangers fans understand how much we're gonna love Smith or what he brings

If Chytil doesn’t make it, it’s because he’s broken 😞

I want to see Edstrom and berard full time
Maybe. Thank Trouba. Hopefully Berard and Othmann can contribute and Miller and Schneider can take the next step.

Sometimes you need a pat on the back other times you need a kiss in the butt. We will be fine as it be. Let’s go rangers, bring on the hockey 🏒
And Jesus answered, “for I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. NO ONE shall come to the Father but through Me.”
