- Edna Adan Ismail is the former Foreign Minister of the autonomous Somaliland region in northwest Somalia. In November 2013, she was included in New African Magazine's list of 100 Most Influential Africans - Civil Society. She lived for a long time in the United States but she later came back to her home country of Somaliland and founded a maternity hospital. That is just one of a list of achievements in a remarkable career that has included a stint as a government minister and senior posts at the World Health Organization.
She says her success is all down to having had an education, and she is determined that more African girls have the same opportunity.
