Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2023 Chrysler Pacifica, we're gonna be showing you how to install the etrailer.com trailer hitch receiver. Before we do that though, let's take a minute, check it out, and make sure it's gonna work for you. When it comes to these Pacificas, you know they're really capable vans. People use 'em to do a lot of different things. Whether you're trying to pull a trailer around or use an accessory or a little bit of both, you're gonna want a hitch that is capable and up to the task.
And with a setup like this one here, it's definitely gonna get the job done. There are several hitches available for the Pacifica, and with the etrailer one, I feel like it's the best general purpose all-around hitch. I think it looks good with that matte black finish. And it kind of sits towards the front a little bit and up tight against the bottom. Definitely does a good job of kind of blending in.
You know, don't look out of place by any means. And for example, there's a Draw-Tite hitch available. It looks pretty good, too. That one has a little bit higher capacities, but I feel like that one's more set up for towing. So if you plan on primarily using your van for that, maybe some, you know, extra heavy trailers or whatever the case may be, that might be worth looking into.
And then if you're someone as well that don't wanna see a hitch back here at all but still want to be able to use accessories and whatnot, there's a hidden hitch available where the main body of the hitch will be up kind of behind the bumper there. And there'll be a receiver tube that's detachable so you can pop that out when you're not using it, put it back in place when you are ready to use it. And keep everything looking completely factory back here. With this hitch, it is gonna work with vehicles that are non-hybrids like ours today as well as the hybrid van. So regardless of what you got, this'll work.
And that's not the case with all of the hitches. So if you're checking out a different one, make sure to use our dropdown menu and make sure you punch in if you have a hybrid or not. Like I said, this'll work with either. It does have the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is a good thing. Super common size. A lot of stuff will work with it. It is going to use the standard 5/8 pin and clip. One doesn't come with the hitch. If you need one, not a big deal. You can grab it right here etrailer. Or a lot of times see if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one. So something to look out for. The safety chain openings are easy to get to. They're a little on the small side, but they should be large enough to allow you to use pretty much any size hook that your trailer might have on it. As far as a weight capacities go, it's gonna have some pretty good numbers. They'll have a 400 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating, which is the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's good for those one to three, maybe even four bike racks, just kind of depending on how much everything weighs, to give you an example there. And as far as maximum gross trailer weight rating, that's gonna be 4,000 pounds. That's the amount of weight pulling on the hitch. So the weight of your trailer plus anything you might have enter on it. This can be used with a weight distribution system as well, which is a separate component. And what happens when you use that, it's gonna keep your trailer and your Pacifica level whenever you're towing it down the road. So pretty popular on campers and enclosed trailers, things like that. And if you use a system, the capacities will go up a little bit. Tongue weight gets increased to 500 pounds. And trailer weight gets increased to 5,000 pounds. Now with all that in mind, I do always like to recommend, never a bad idea just to grab your Chrysler's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your vehicle can handle that much weight safely. We'll grab a couple measurements now and these will help you figure out what type of accessories will work best. We go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening. That's gonna set at about 13 inches. So if you plan on pulling a trailer, you're gonna need to get a ball mount that has a rise in the shank. If you go from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about five inches. Which isn't too bad so you shouldn't really run into a lot of issues here, but if needed you can use that to figure out exactly if any of those folding style accessories you might hav
