Thanks for sharing so much of uour activities. My kids are older and I dont get to experiment with apples such. I live through youtubers for younger kids activities.
My kids feel like that sometimes with the good and the beautiful handwriting. Still use it but don’t make them draw or color if they don’t feel up to it.
I am in your exact position with my 7 year old girl. She’s in 2nd. I homeschooled in Kinder and she ended up in school for 1st. Was “behind” in reading because we were not focused on reading in kinder but more playing and now she’s in 2nd and I’m pulling her back out because she wants to be home so we’re starting in AAR level 1 and then on to level 2. Starting at the beginning 🙌🏼
@@RohiniRae good for you guys! It can feel rocky, right?.. but in the end you are supporting her and doing what you feel is right. We are making a bold move with our new LA since she is behind in reading but this just feels right🤞🏻 Good luck with AAR!
I can't wait for the Mcguffeys video! I purchased all the things last year to implement a Mcguffey reading and LA program, but I just couldn't get it together enough to make it work. I think I struggled most with how to teach spelling and grammar in this way. I feel like a checklist would've been really helpful. Your upcoming video makes me hopeful to try again!
Yes, it does seem like most curricula want children to draw something , especially if you are using resources influenced by Charlotte Mason methods. Most of my children are not natural artists so I don't use a lot of that material. One UA-cam mom you might want to look into is Sherri Hayes from Mom Delights. She also has a blog with a lot of free resources and all kinds of articles. She has been using the McGuffey's as the main spine for language arts for her children from pre-reading to high school for many years. One of her free resources is called Climbing the Mountain of Reading. Even if you don't use this resource, the information she gives at the beginning about how to teach children to read is very helpful.
All about reading wasn't a good fit for us. I loved it, but it was soooo much, and my daughter hated all the fiddly tiles and the super long practice pages. We're doing Reading Eggs online and the workbooks right now, but I've been seriously considering switching to Mcguffey Readers next year. I feel like you're telling my story more and more with every video. I can't wait to see how it goes. ❤
@@jenniesmith5620 hey! Oh man, yes, there are just so many components to AAR and while it might have been really effective, I know my daughter and myself are needing simplicity right now. I just can’t believe that an effective reading program would need so much stuff when really- solid phonics and lots of review could be the ticket to building enough confidence to finally jump into books. I’m excited to share how I believe the McGuffeys and a notebook may be ALL we need for this to work. My kids really like Reading Eggs too! It’s been a nice supplement but I’m not a huge fan of computer learning.
Have you tried Ruby Reads Posters for read aloud time? I saw that you’re going to start The Hobbit and they have a poster for that book and they are SO fun! My kids love coloring it while I read and really analyzing the story/characters, sounds, sights, etc to fill out their poster. I buy the digital version and have them printed at Staples for around $6. We’re doing the Wild Robot right now and they are such a fun keepsake and give the kids something to do that’s related to the story and not too distracting.

Can you share the animal geography you’re using? I’m intrigued! 😊
@@ShayeMeissen I put it together myself! You can watch my video all about it that I believe was a video or two before this one.
It just got down to 70s today. Suppose to stay all week.
