- Short montage of images taken at the worlds most famous crematorium at Golders Green in north-west London. Great names include Keith Moon, Marc Bolan, Sid James, Bernard Bresslaw, Ian Hendry, Peter Sellers etc etc.
great video, as a guy who used to work in a cemetery digging graves, i love these kinds of videos. very tasteful.
Thanks for posting this, very lovely. I went this year to attend a service for Marc Bolan and to see the plaques in his name, words in memorial book, his rose bush and hand carved bench and many other items in his memory. It's a lovely place. I also saw the Anna Pavlova Urn indoors as shown in this video.
Thanks for this. I live in west cornwall and have thought time and time again about visiting this place and paying my respects to past heros.
I will do it most definetly now after watching this video
I used to see Marc Bolan at Implosion gigs at the Roundhouse. Then, passing here on my way home, I saw his funeral with a flower guitar by his coffin. Couldn't believe it. RIP Marc.
Thank you for this. Many of the names I know but the one which stood out for me was Marc Bolan. I'm forever a fan. Miss you, Marc. And i'd also like to compliment your choice of music for the video it was very nice and appropriate.
Mike Pratt of "Randall & Hopkirk" fame was cremated here. A still very much missed actor.
so moving!! ....x x all those lovely people..... x x
Sadly still missed,Marc Bolan gone but never forgotten.
Thankyou Crikey I never knew about all the plaques of the greats.
My dear much missed dad James Thomas Clark 1916 - 1991 had his funeral here the day before Christmas 1991.
What a lovely poignant video. Very nice - thanks.
ALSO LET US REMEMBER THE SINGER OF THE SONG THAT GOES WITH THIS VIDEO ..THE LATE GREAT KIRSTY MacCHOLL you rest in peace as well
RIP Marc Bolan, Keith Moon, Peter Sellers...Great version of KinKs song..one of my favorites by Ray Davies. Poor Marc...so sad.
i have been here to visit marc bolan resting place with his mum & dad was sum thing i will never forget
Mike Pratt (Jeff Randall of the original Randall & Hopkirk) died in 1976. He was cremated here too.
Thanks for posting this.
Marc Bolan - Live Forever
So Marc Bolan is the most famous one that I recognized! Hmmm might go and see
I found it a bit strange watching this and reading the comments : my grandparents ashes are there, so it's always been a special and personal place to visit, but also a bit odd because of it's almost cult status as a celebrity crematorium ! Still I guess there are lots of places that mean different things to different people. They used to give out a list of the famous people there - lots were described as "entertainers" "musicians" etc, but Marc Bolan is shown as a plain old "70's Pop Star" !
An interesting and very thoughtful listing. People who enriched our lives but have sadly passed into history.
thank you. its always nice to have a marker after a cremation.
ride a white swan ..marc....
Aww seems mum and dad are in good company. Nice.
It seems to be a beautiful serene resting place. It does not make it any less sad but at least it is beautiful. Several people that l care about rest there. Thank you for posting.
Had my photo taken with Marc Bolan in his Johns Children band days.
I loved visiting Golders. It's fascinating, but also incredibly peaceful. TY for sharing this.
Nicely done.
I understand Barry Evans from the Dr in the House /Mind Your Language is here & I have a number. Are you able to place flowers and can someone help find the grave if there is one?
Joined mourning prayer/service for our beloved neighbour here.....
Bram Stokers ashes are in a urn situated in the East Columbarium area of the crematorium.
my nan, granddad and 2 uncles are there nice to know they are all with famous people
Thank you for sharing this with me, I enjoyed it very much. I know 95% of the names you showed but I never realised Charles Rennie Mackintosh was at GG. I read a bio of Vivien Leigh by Anne Edwards and she says Vivien was cremated at GG but I cannot find any evidence of it anywhere else. Can you help?
A very famous Jewish area of London.Great people,great bakeries,a lot of love.xBless Golders Green.xxx
Cheers. Cleared up nicely.
I was there a few weeks ago a old school friends funeral
think theres a few more
Keith moon, Ian dury ,peter sellers, yootha joyce, Larry Adler, Ivor Novello, Lionel Bart, Joyce Grenfel, Patrick Demare..........etc etc etc
I'm not too keen on urns. But you've done a reverential job here.
Would like to visit Golders Green cemetery were Keith moon is there .
In this cemetery there Is also the grave of Yootha Yoyce,,the inforgettable Mildred Roper
wasn't gordon jackson scotish?
Need to be a speed reader in some of them
That was strange, this video is about Golder Green crematorium but the late singer who sang this song was cremated at another crematorium.
Bram Stokers ashes are in an urn in the East Columbarium area of the crematorium.
Bram Stoker and Sigmund Freud are also there. I saw their respective urns. And Anna Pavlova also. I can't remember who else. I sought it out because I wanted to see where H.G.Wells was burnt.
Unless I blinked you missed arguably the most famous grave, Peter Sellers...mobid, but fascinating.
I disagree that he was the most famous.
@@60toodles who then ?
Am i correct in saying that the lovely Yootha Joyce was cremated at this crematorium?
Wow 10 years ago i wrote this, where does the years go?
Amazing
It is ironic, that one of the reasons I would go here is to see the Keith moon one and I would probably miss it, (i thought it would be bigger)
How about enid blyton?
sid james.
Quite a few relatives were dusted there. My parents took us there as children, paying respects. My brother and I used to run around.
Manchester crematorium is the 2nd oldest in England lovely gardens too
visited here several times; its nice..also they have a tiny and quaint cafe for a cappuchino and a scone..It felt good just to sit and know where Marc Bolin's ashes are..just a closure I think
Closure and maybe a feeling of being close to them, too.
I visited there the first trip to London. One of the operators showed me around the crypts. He even told me that he could get me a horse drawn hearse for if I wished to be cremated there some day. That's probably my ideal place to be cremated.
Please could someone tell me whose Memorial is at 1'40'' ?
Thanks.
I thought that I recognised the one with the swans. Did you spend any time in the building looking at the multiple storeys of urns sitting on their little shelves?
When I took a picture of Bram Stoker's urn, the operator fellow told me that he had the same as a desktop picture on his computer.
Don't people who are cremated usually have their ashes taken away by relatives to be taken to another place that they like? I was wondering why they were pointing to the grass for Sid James? Is it just a sign for him?
no not all. lots are starting too now which i think is the best thing but plenty just have their ashes scattered on the grass at a crematorium or have the urn buried.
bernard bresslaw got a poor grave only i tiny plaque...so many stars have got poor looking graves to say they were rich,,
Many more not listed here like Hughie Green, for example.
I only visited The Jewish Crematorium but next time will cross the road and visit the other "All-Faiths" side.
The Jewish people were all in White Tombs on the ground which is quite a sight.
Great Vid. Is Golders Green Crematorium Jewish only?
I may have missed it, but did you get Peter Sellers' grave?
I'm English and have only heard of about 3 of them. Sid James from the carry on films and a couple of others.
yes. in England all cemetery and crematoriums are open to the public. but you may want to check the opening hours. have you tried the website Find A Grave..through that you can find out where famous people are buried.
careful at Highgate though. You'll get little old ladies demanding money with menaces
Great video. Hope to visit there next time in the UK.
Can't believe Ivor Novello isn't on this video. His ashes are under a lilac tree close to all these plaques.
is bram stoker dracula writer buried here? I didnt see his plaque come up in this video
I've never heard of any of these people. And some of the nam6 were hard to read.
@watchamacallit657 Actually he was cremated at Kensal Green Cemetery & Crematorium.
thank you, are the public allowed in?
@bladesmark1 Yes, she was
Isn't Yootha Joyce in this cemetery?
Stevo 1971 she is indeed..
Plot 3P, she's on top of Keith Moon!
@@feenix8461 ooh I say, I think Mildred may have enjoyed being on top!!... RIP Yootha
If I was suppose to know who these people were, I failed the test.
No grave for sid James, sad
Sadly I only know about 5% of these names.....my bad.😳
Do they scatter the ashes?
@MsDrummermike Hoop Lane, Golders Green, NW11
Wowee ,,,that's famous graves???
No Paul Kossoff ? shame on you
Is Amy winehouse buried here?
this is 2007 uploaded amy died 2011..so wont me located in this video,,sad lost amy winehouse is,, RIP
..Xxxx
I was born in the UK and I have never heard of
most of these people!!.....Who were they?????
+Cat “DKPIAMBR” Black Of course I have heard
of Marc Bolan,he made some great songs, but I
was referring to the Actors... The majority of graves
were from the 1930's/40's so you'd have to be born
in the 20's to have any idea who they are!!!
+Summer Reyes Martita Hunt made various films but was best known for playing Miss Havisham in the David Lean version of Great Expectations.Bud Flanagan was part of a double act,Flanagan and Allen,he is best known for singing the theme song for Dads Army. Most of the others are band leaders .There are lots of celebrity remains, the Crematorium has a list on their website i think.Amy Winehouse and Freddie Mercury were cremated here but the ashes are elsewhere.
The guy missed one grave.Paul Kossoff, one of the greatest English blues players, guitarist of the band Free,is there in a summer house, with a words -all right now.
I know right? There's only about 3 or 4 at the most I have even heard of here ...
I visit him once a month
Where is Kenneth Williams
@Amelia Quatermain East Finchley Crematorium
I didn't realise crematoriums has different religions.
They are non-denomational. Even atheists are welcome!
End of the line,Baby.
Forgive my ignorance, but is it only for Jewish people???Can someone enlighten me. Ta.
If I wanted to see a bunch of graves of people I've never heard of I'd just take a stroll through any old graveyard.
Idiot
I thought this was a Jewish crem - didn't realise it was multi-denominational
+Dafydd Llywych-Hwllch There is a room which is for Jews only but the ashes are scattered..Sid James and Bernard Bresslaw have plaques in there.Orthodox Jews as a rule, are opposed to cremation on religious grounds.
Not to be a stickler but these are not graves....they're memorial stones in a crem!
how do you know that? A lot of people have the urn filled with ashes buried in the plot or have the ashes scattered there. Some take them home but not everyone does.
