You should really watch the live version. It's so incredible! The song was written in memory of his late friend. The last line in particular has a tear rolling down his face. I don't know if it's true but, I've read somewhere that they performed it on the same bridge that his friend "gave up the fight". Very moving.

I love the use of the violin in this recorded version and of course their harmonies, but the live version has so much power and emotion. I know others have said it but you really need to watch live versions or official videos for REN because there is nothing extraneous with what he does. His art is a full performance not just lyrics and music and the videos always add an extra element. I am someone who has lost people to suicide and this song crushes me, but it also helps release some of those emotions that would otherwise fester inside. REN is a key that unlocks those dark places for a lot of us and while it hurts to feel what's inside it also lightens the room and burden a little after.
PS you’re a lot like Ren-you bring honesty and realness to the fore, and try to get across that we all gotta help each other. Thanks Jamal for being a good human.
